I had a friend who ran cross-country, he was taking iron supplements to improve his aerobic performance
The doctor told him to stop because he had elevated iron levels and his body would stop producing iron naturally if it went on too long.

It seems most iron supplements are a little dangerous. They don't take iron-absorption into account, or they overcompensate for the fact that your body doesn't absorb all iron. Supposed to be a thing you only take when prescribed.
