Considering Ralts is sitting right in front of Nathan, that catches both Nathan AND Ralts off guard.
...and it's VERY uncomfortable for Ralts, getting 'hugged' by a ghost.
And to his credit, Nathan reacts almost immediately, as he attempts to separate Ralts from Malphena.
"...let me make this clear, Malphena. Â You deal with one of us, you deal with both of us. Â No exceptions. Â Don't act like I'm not here, like I can't feel how uncomfortable you're making my best friend."
That's really all he needs to say. Â He's not really angry, per se, but...Malphena definitely hit a nerve, however unintentionally.
"...give us some space, please. Â We have some thinking to do."
He directs Swiftfire to trot away from the ghost. Â And then he gets to work at soothing Ralts and giving Swiftfire some proper brushing (she doesn't complain as much as usual since it seems to be helping Nathan calm down) while everyone waits for Ventus to find that Durant of his.
Problem partially solved, I guess?  It's certainly a step up from before as far as Nathan's mood goes...
Malphena, not
really desiring any conflict with Nathan right now despite how unimpressed and unhappy she was with him, and somewhat surprised herself that Ralts react the polar opposite to her cuddles, separated herself from Ralts when he came to their aid. She had to STRONGLY resist not cackling in the boy's face as he tried to lecture HER about behavior, though, but that didn't stop her from smirking at him in a smug/knowing way. Oh, that was
rich, considering that until she dediced to intervene and
do something to solve Ralts fearful misery he was content to let them both simmer uneasily in it! Her vengeful jumpscares and teasing yet genuine concern might not be to his liking nor her disdain for him, but all of that DID manage to snap them out of being
so SAD and DO
SOMETHING about your/their woes. Something by all right HE should be
done in the first place, but had to be provoked into doing so, and unintentionally at that, as she had given up on him by the time she decided to cuddle with Ralts!
That, and his warning was ultimately pointless, as she HAD dealt with the both of them by that point, and only decided to ignore them/write them off as a lost cause at the end and tried to tease/comfort Ralts by herself since he
refused to care enough to look past this own troubles. One shouldn't say make such a statement, least ye began to paint yourself a fool, te he he!
Still, when the boy decided to avoid her and actually
constructively deal with his problems and care for his Pokémon, (
FINALLY!) , the screeching banshee didn't follow, electing instead to trill a
very perky farewell screech, showing once again that not only was she unfazed by his words/actions, but that she was
completely happy with the results of their 'exchange'. Dislike her all you want (She doesn't care~!), but you'd and your Pokémon would have been worse off if it weren't for her help, and she QUITE smugly content withÂ
that Knowledge, *Screeeeee~!*
With a squelch, you pull it out. It's a semi-solid Black Sludge! For anyone who is not wearing acidproof gloves or bearing the Poison type, it is not a healthy thing to hold!
For a Poison type: Restores 1 dice of health each round.
For Steel types: No effect
For all other types: Deals 1 point of typeless damage each round.
Shiva also finds an old rusty industrial shovel. It's not usable for digging any more.

2 successes will be required on that Insight check, and you'll have a -1 penalty if the battle gets particularly messy. Page 44 of the rulebook for more info.
Also remember this is an illegal act under any circumstances...not that it matters one bit this deep inside the earth.
Ventus flies across the dark chasm on Tropius, flanked by his own airborne Pokemon. He finds a ledge where he may land and give orders in relative safety. The bottom of the chasm from this side cannot be seen.
The Gigalith and Golem are perched near the edge of the chasm, perhaps 10' away. They rest against each other, and Ventus can see a thin, brittle crust of sandstone has formed between them. Half-merged, they take up most of the walkway, and Gigalith's spikes reach almost to the low ceiling.
Gigalith's crystals glow and fade rhythmically in time to his breathing. There also seems to be a faint glimmer in his eyes, indicating a small degree of wakefulness. Golem, on the other hand, is retracted deep within his stone shell. His snoring causes minor tremors.
Initiatives:
Malphena: (4) + 6 = 10
Lucifer: (3) + 6 = 9
Golem: (6) +2 dex +1 Survial = 9
Raphael: (2) + 6 = 8
Gigalith: (1) + 2 Dex + 1 Survival = 4
Frowning in thought/intrigue at seeing such a
odd phenomena of the two Rock type joined together, and seeing/detecting that only the Gigalith was vaguely aware enough of them to start taking, Ventus decided that he and his family had time to prepare themselves for what could be a
very perilous fight. "Lucifer,
I need you to provide Tailwind support to everyone before anything else is done, then began wearing away at Gigalith with an Iron Tail. Raphael, Malphena, use Nasty Plot and brainstorm the best possible ways to swiftly disable our foes after they fully rouse themselves, then Confuse both targets with your respective moves. Do you understand, my family," the researcher said, slowly and carefully whispering + enunciating his orders to all of them, as he knew from experience that trying to order more than three Pokémon would be......unwise in most circumstance. However, given how much of a possible threat these two Pokémon could be, more force outweighed the risk of confusion among his ranks!
Order: Since they are both still drowsing for the most part, I want to keep orders for the first round simple and straightforward: Buffing for the whole party, Lucifer trying to chip through Gigilath's Defense with Iron Tail, and Malphena/Raphael using Confuse Ray/Sweet Kiss respectfully to Confuse both targets. Pray that the dice don't overly screw me over.....
Moves:
Tailwind
Accuracy: DEX (3) + Fight (3) + Channel (3) + Wide Lens (1) - 2 Actions = 8D6 Dice
Effect: + 2 DEX for Everyone on Ven's side!
Nasty Plot
Accuracy: 6D6 Base + Tailwind (for Raphael) - 2 Actions = 4D6 and 6D6 Dice (Malphena and Raphael respectiviely)
Effect: + 2 STR for Malphena/Raphael
Iron Tail
Accuracy: 9D6 Base + Tailwind + Wide Lens - Accuracy (3) - 3 Actions = 6D6 Dice
Damage: STR (3) + 4 + SEÂ - Vitality (3?) = 4D6 + 1 Damage
Effect: *Lower 1 Defense [3]*
Confuse Ray
Accuracy: 11D6 Base (Adding Tailwind) - 3 Actions = 8D6 Dice
Effect: Known
Sweet Kiss
Accuracy: DEX (3) + Fight (3) + Allure (2) + Tailwind (2) - Accuracy (3) - 3 Actions = 4D6 Dice
Effect: Known
Upon...coming to the conclusion that....her finding here is practically THE trademark item of her feared Poison Type, two responses and urges awoke from deep within the known FAIRY enthusiast and plant lover, they could barely be more different from each other.
One was an incredible relief that she was wearing the poison-resitant gloves at the moment, as if she wouldn't have and were to TOUCH that Black Sludge unprotected, she'd probably let out a terrified and disgusted screech that Ven's Noibat would envy her for.
The other was, naturally, massive disgust mixed with a good portion of fear.
Somewhat completely absent-minded and not averting her gaze from that finding of hers here, Shiva maked her way out of that water/coal sludge as best as possible, and kneed down to be around eye level as both Azumarill and Furret came closer to their dear Master to show them what they all have landed here. (How do Azumarill and Furret react to that Black Sludge, Iron?)
That rusty shovel can sink back into the water, why should Shiva take it with her?

Azumarill hates it! Furret certainly doesn't like the smell of it, but he keeps coming back to sniff it again, confirming his suspicions.

Gigalith and Golem Round 1
(...)
Ventus' Pokemon are all set up now!
Ven didn't know whether to grimace or not by the time the first round concluded, as while his whole family followed his to the letter, having both his Flying type's wings being clipped was hardly a positive development in his books. Thinking quickly,
Ven decided to promptly return Lucifer to his Pokeball, as he already had successfully did his contribution to the fight and didn't want his main scout horribly maimed, and focus on issuing orders to only Raphael and Malphena instead in a clean, crisp, and calm tone of voice.
"Raphael, Encore on Golem to prevent the on capitalizing Gigalith's Smack Downs, and proceed to send a barrage of Aura Sphere at Gigalith themselves to quickly dispatch them! Malphena, Icy Wind to slow them to a crawl, then focus down Gilgalith with Hex! Once they are down, switch targets to Golem and use Magical Leaf instead to hit their Weaknesses with maximum effectiveness! These are formidable opponents that could cause us all grevious harm if allowed, so dispatch them quickly my family!"
Order: As his Trainer Action Ventus will quickly recall Lucifer before ordering Raphael to use Encore on Golem to keep him from Earthquaking/Stone Edging/Exploding/much of anything at all, then use 3 Aura Spheres on Gigalith to (hopefully) faint them before they become TOO much of a annoyance. Malphena meanwhile will use Icy Wind once to weaken both Rock types, then start cursing Giligath's very soul with Hex 3 times per round. When/if the Red Rock Rype falls, transition attacks onto Golem, with Raphael switching any remaining Aura Sphere with Magical Leaf to deal with them expediently. Time to Rock their world and show them our sediments to them!!! Also, Malphena has Evolite on her, so take note of its Defense boost!
Moves:
Encore
Accuracy: DEX (*5) + Fight (3) + Allure (2) - 4 Actions - 1 Pain = 5D6 Dice
Effect: Locks target into last chain of actions, Priority!
Icy Wind
Accuracy: 11D6 Base Dice - 4 Actions = 7D6 Dice
Damage: STR (*5) + 2 + SE (For Golem) = 7D6 Base Damage for both, + 1 for Golem
Effect: Spread Moves, - 1 DEX if it hits, regardless of damage
Aura Sphere
Accuracy: 11D6 Base Dice - 5/6/7 Actions - 1 Pain = 5/4/3D6 Dice
Damage: STR (*5) + 3 + SE - Vitality (3) = 5D6 + 1 Damage
Effect: Always Accurate
Hex
Accuracy: 11D6 - 5/6/7 Actions = 6/5/4D6 Dice
Damage: STR (*5) + *4 (Since both targets are confused) + STAB = 10D6 Base Damage
Effect: None
Magical Leaf
Accuracy: Same as Aura Sphere
Damage: STR + 2 + QE = 7D6 + 2 Base Damage to Golem
Effect: Always Accurate
Azumarill, being her much beloved blue fae rabbit, reacting with something Shiva noticed as HATE towards this Sludge, did a fine job to bring Shiva and her mind back to the current place, and in a very swift movement she threw both of her arms+hands into the opposite direction to bring as much distance between Azu, Furret, herself and that toxic Black Sludge.
Bah... Stupid sludge. Stupid black puddle she found it in! Somehow, Shiva was VERY tempted to let it sink back into the water and make haste to get as far away from the place as possible as fast as possible, and try to forget this nasty stuff all together. But as she made a step towards the water/coal with a rather determined expression and manner and was starring into the puddle once more (it stared back at her as if it was silently laughing at her! H....how rude! :C ), she staggered for the first time as the connection to Poison Type reminded her on the members of this Type that belonged to other members of the traveling group: With a neutral state concering her feelings, she thought of Apsis, her love's loyal Arbok. She would likely rejoice over this sludge? But...at the moment, Shiva was not confident enough to approach Apsis with a gift in an attempt to show that she does not mean any harm, nor is a rival for Ven's attention. Next, the image of Heart's Nidorino appreared before her very eye, and with fear and a huge amount of respect she shook her head as if to make it clear to the current surrounding that she is NOT going to give a helpful Item to a Pokemon that'll evolve into this nightmare fuel also known as Nidoking. That'd be....blatant mockery of herself!
Sighing heavily and not even caring to make in impercible, she pondered what to do now, and how she could GET RID of this stuff as best as possible. Her mind and thoughts wandered around, stopped here and there, they resided a little longer at the Violet Tent. Maybe she could....trade this Sludge there for something 'better'? Maybe... She doesn't know for sure. Maybe she could.... Wait a moment. WAIT! Visible, Shiva perked up as THIS thought came to her mind, and her mood quickly lighted up as a small portion of the fear and disgust bid farewell. There was a somewhat rare move that consist of a Pokemon GETTING RID of it's item, but not in the traditional way - nope, it plants the item on the foe wihile casting a nice smile that meant nothing bad. And...her Tropius knows that particular move! At that sensation, Shiva displayed another weird reaction as she started to deceitfully chuckle to herself for a little, earning a concerning look from Azumarill.
When she turned back to Azu and Furret, she still had that SMILE on her that meant NOTHING good at all. With a soft voice, she adressed them both. "You know, despite neither me nor you like that Sludge, I'm going to keep it for now. Maybe...maybe it'll be useful in the end, even if only by transfering it to a foe of us! Fear not my dear ones, as I'll make sure it won't have a nasty effect on any of us. Have faith in me please, as no way I'll handle this Sludge carelessly...."
To proof her Pokemon that, Shiva drew an empty glass bottle that formerly contained water from bagpack as soon as he managed to take of ONE of her gloves while keeping the Sludge firmly in the other gloved hand, and let the Sludge slide into it before she took off the second glove and screwed the lip on the bottle before she carefully checked it was sealed. There, with such a containment her other stuff is not endangered by the Black Sludge's toxic traits nor its unpleasant smell!
"Let us go ahead now, as we fell back already and loosing the others down here is something I rather not experience", she told her Pokemon as soon as she was dressed in a fresh attire, who seemed all happy to leave this place behind them as well. Shiva thought of her Tropius and how he was doing with Ventus at the moment...
...how will he react to this Black Sludge and especially to the request to keep a hold on it before he'd be to enter important battles?
Encore on a Pokemon who just woke up...that's low! (Or very clever, depending on how you look at it.)
Gigalith and Golem Round 2
Encore 1
(6)(5)(1)(5)(4)
Golem became useless!
Icy Wind 1
(3)(2)(3)(6)(6)(4)(6)
(4)(3)(6) Gigalith takes 2 dmg 4/9hp -2 pain
Golem takes 3 dmg 6/9hp -1 pain
-1 Dex for Gigalith and Golem
Aura Sphere 1
(4)(5)(1)(1)(6)
(5)(2)(4)(3) (they have 4 vitality) Gigalith takes 3 dmg 1/9hp -3 pain.
Stealth Rock
Golem tries adding more rocks, but in his confusion he can't even manage that, and they just pile up around his feet.
Gigalith clomps away down the tunnel, in retreat.
Hex 2
(2)(1)(1)(6)(5)(2)
(1)(4)(5)(6)(6)(2) Gigalith faints.
Aura Sphere 2
(6)(2)(1)(3)
(4)(2)(3)(3) Golem takes 2 dmg 4/9hp -2 pain.
Magical Leaf 2
(6)(2)(3)(4)
(5)(2)(5) +2 Golem takes 4 dmg and faints.
The way is clear! Ventus has 8Xp to give his Pokemon, and gets 4 for himself.
Don't forget, the rest of the party will need to get across that chasm.
