Quote:(...) Then Cofagrigus, and a long train of Yamask followers, leads you to the orichalcum door. It hands you four golden keys matching the four keyholes on the door. No sign of a hexagon or ankh pattern here.
Rumblings and skittering can be heard below. The ghost lord backs off to watch from the shadows, grinning evilly. (...)
Shiva was having a massive interest in any keys from an early point, so now that the spectral coffin willingly hands these four golden keys (assuming they indeed do so to the whole group = not solely to Heart), she's being heavily set on accepting one from Cofagrigus. It's a wonderfully satisfying and rewarding feeling to hold it in her very own and bare hands and she savours this moment as longs as she can.
One hand of hers will put the golden key into the matching keyhole, the other is barely an inch away from the pocket of her Ranger's cloak where she stores the Pokeballs occupied by her current party. She throws a neutral gaze over to the spectral coffin (their evil grin causing her to frown), but then concentrates on the door again:
In sync with the others, she will turn the key to let loose WHATEVER is lurking behind/below it. There's no backing off anymore now.
Spira takes another key and puts it in a keyhole, "Let's turn the keys on three, 1, 2..."
The door opens automatically as the keys turn on Spira's count. You peer down into a darkness too deep to be fully lit by your Pokemon. Within, you hear the grinding of stone on stone, and suddenly two compound eyes like headlights are gazing back at you. You notice Cofagrigus has backed off... and is hastily hiding all its favorite fossils before fading into the shadows with its courtiers.
A flurry of crescent-moon blades like ninja stars come scything out of the pit, whirring overhead and sticking into the stone roof. They seem to be of polished stone themselves, and razor sharp.
Heavy footsteps. The ground shakes. Massive stone claws, long as a Shadow Claw, reach up and sink into the frame of the doorway. Before anyone can react, a hulking monstrosity flips itself into the fossil garden like a contortionist, rotating at the waist. As a matter of fact, most of the Pokemon before you is rotating - the head appears able to spin 360 degrees, the gleaming compound eyes spin about their axis in a hypnotic way, the arms are freely mobile. Each of its six limbs is decked with more stone blades, a bit like a Scyther but rounder, keener, and freewheeling. It walks on two legs and uses the other four as arms. Each limb also ends in long hooked claws which sink into the weaker rock of the floor. The abdomen curls into a long stinger.
A little drone hovers above each shoulder, four in all. They look like mini versions of this thing's head, with wide-open mouths and stony exoskeletons.
The broad, flat insectoid head could almost be a blade itself as it swings back and forth, selecting a target. The stance is wide, all limbs akimbo, and a purplish tint to the stone gives away this Pokemon's identity - it can only be a modified Genesect!
You and the Genesect are now alone in the fossil garden.
Nathan's eyes go as wide as saucers as he says the Legendary Pokemon's name, a name that Spira definitely hasn't heard before because he was before this pokemon's time in the modern era. A name that Terra and Heart probably aren't very familiar with, either. And a name that the Scimitars are probably very familiar with.
"...oh my Arceus...that's without a doubt a Genesect..."
Nathan backs away from the Legendary Bug type as he looks at it warily.  Gallade moves in front of Nathan to get between the Legendary and his trainer.  If they have to fight this thing...
The question is...do they? What kind of emotions are Gallade/Shiva picking up from this mechanized bug?
Nathan doesn't want to fight this thing unless it's necessary, to be honest.
A few things!
When Terra meditates on Deoxys, he gets an answering... "ping"... from Genesect. Genesect seems to have been imbued or MODIFIED with some of Deoxys' power. Going off the theory that Deoxys had been experimenting on Creshirean Pokemon thousands of years ago, and briefings from Ventus, Terra feels like Deoxys may have been the one to MODIFY a Genesect fossil to help with those experiments. This is just more proof that Team Plasma wasn't the first to modify Genesect, not by a long shot! So even this isn't the original Genesect, and won't be as powerful as most legendaries.
Lore: 13d6
(6)(5)(4)(4)(4)(2) (5)(2)(4)(4)(4)(1) (6) Fantastic roll.
Gallade is getting emotions of pure rage, so you don't think this can be reasoned with (but it's probably pretty stupid). At the same time, it's emanating pride and power, kind of like the Cofagrigus when it speaks of its kingdom. Gallade and Shiva think maybe Genesect has set itself up as lord of this little domain, possibly a significant part of the Skull Ruins. As you look in those eyes you feel compelled to battle!!
The drones, however, seem mindless.
Nathan knows that back in the day there were multiple Genesect in Creshire, fighting each other for dominance whenever they met, but not actively seeking each other out, and not fundamentally powerful enough to claim an entire continent as their own like a major Legendary.
However, you know they don't usually fight to the death. They are prone to running away once they're too weak to fight.
Of course, you know that Genesect has a long history of modification, usually weapons. Like arthropods, Genesect is evolutionarily very flexible, able to swap out the functions of limbs or whatever. Very adaptable and able to be adapted. This is exactly the kind of thing Deoxys was studying.
The "Most Powerful Pokemon Ever" doesn't have an incredibly high BST; most of that power comes from Techno Blast, the drives, and Download - none of which this guy is likely to have. The webslinging is probably a feature of the base form though. That UFO form was obviously designed/enhanced by Team Plasma, but these drones have a similar theme perhaps.
Any other questions, just ask! That was such a good Lore roll.

Nathan's obviously been doing his reading up on Genesect
So when you're talking about the behavior of those ancient Genesect, do you mean the original ones before the FTS and Sarimanok actively sought to modify them with mechanical parts of their own?
And besides the obvious answer of FIRE, was there anything Nathan might have read about that certain Genesect used against each other that was apparently particularly effective?

Yes.
Those Genesect's emotions were easily influenced by other Genesect, so you're thinking this Legendary might not be wholly immune to emotion-based debuffs. Mostly they didn't truly hurt each other, just scratched at each other and displayed dominance, but apparently the best finishing move was to remove your foe's natural weapons. They'd grow back in a few decades.
While Nathan was doing his own awestruck/dreading speculation on GENESECT, so too was Terra, who was surprisingly (Even to himself!)calm about the primal beast that was staring down the group with eager, territorial aggression. Somehow, despite all odds and the impossibilty of it, he felt that he was already familiar with the modified Mythic, beyond what scant information he had managed to pick up on it. Almost as if he shared a connection with -
That's it.
Quickly and quietly as he could, the sagely monk got out a piece of paper and wrote down the following message, and did his utmost BEST to discretely deliver it to Nathan:
'DEOXYS MODIFIED THIS GENESECT. IT IS STRONG, BUT NOT SUPER STRONG. MAYBE WE CAN BEAT IT?'
Afterward, he remained still as he possibly could, trying to think of some way he could possibly get his group out of THIS situation that doesn't involve either sacrificing himself or just resorting to straight up Fighting it, both of which were losing prospects if he knew one! Right now, he was hoping either Nathan or Shiva could come up with a plan to deliver them from this ancient menace, but if need be......he'd do what he have to do to protect everyone.
Such was his duty, as guardian of the group. Heavy as it was....he wouldn't have it any other way, and he would bear it proudly until the bitter end.
Spira is a little shocked at the sight of the Genesect, "Genesect? Looks like an overgrown Scyther statue." Spira is unaware of the usual Steel/Bug version of the Pokemon, assuming that this one might be a Rock/Bug, and based on that assumption, he's prepping Toya's ball if it does come down to a fight.
Shiva ends up being less shocked and scared as that GENESECT OF ALL THINGS emerges from the the open door, her will and sheer determination to do something and get the first of these precious ancient Artifacts into her hands is stronger than any fear. She is, however, pretty suprised and equally fascinated that it is looking quite differently from the drawings she has seen in books speaking about Pokemon that were modified by humans, it appears to be much more drilled on fighting and looking dangerous.
Despite the seriousness of this situation, she also can't helb but to hesitantly chuckle at Spira's comment about that thing looking like an overgrown statue of a Scyther. "You're not that wrong, actually... It's even sharing the Type with Scizor." (Hopefully this make him get that this Bug is heavily weak to Fire) She herself has her hand placed on the Pokeballs of Yena and Raphael, ready to summon them the moment it becomes necessary to defend oneself - her mind also jumps to her beloved foxmage, sending a message of 'I wish you were here' to him.
What she also does is to dare throwing a peek in the direction/hole/place that modified Genesect was coming from - is there anything of interest that Shiva can already spot or notice??
