Yes, if the final damage pool (and CD pool) is 0, it's much as if the move failed.

"Yamask, since you can't seem to draw your attention from that Furret, I think Will-O-Wisp is your best bet."
Will-O-Wisp 2

A Xatu? He sent out Ditto, right?
Nathan sighs. "Again, I'm sorry about that, sir. Charmeleon's a bit...overeager to finally be doing something useful in a battle. Defeating three pokemon in one go is quite stellar performance compared to what he's experienced in the past. Anyways...about time we finished this, I think.Â
Ralts, you're up. If I could ask you to not faint him if given the chance to, sir, that'd be appreciated. I need his Teleport after this battle, and I'd rather not be stuck in Stair for several hours if I can avoid it."
Nathan looks at the...Xatu.
"Ditto, are you feeling okay? This is...the third time I've seen you Transform into a pokemon species you and I haven't seen before, I think? First a Magnemite, then a Mightyena...and now a Xatu?"
Kimono Girl vs Heart Rematch Round 1
Flareon whirls faster and faster in an aggressive dance style.
Quick Attack
9 dice -6 perform = 3d6
(6)(5)(1), (3)(2)(3)(4)(3)(2) = 5 perform
(6)(3) Typhon takes 1 dmg 5/6hp
Charge Beam
(6)(4)(6)(6)(4) Critical hit, a brilliant shimmering beam. (5)(3)(5) = 2 perform
(2)(3)(5)(2)(4) Flareon takes 2 dmg 5/7hp -1 pain

Kimono Girl vs Heart Rematch Round 2
Spark
(4)(4)(2)(1)(4), (4)(4)(5) = 3 perform
(2)(2)(6) Flareon takes 1 dmg 4/7hp -1 pain
Flareon ignores the paralyzing effects of the move.
A graceful crest of fire comes rolling across the field, sweeping up little Typhon in its embrace. Those with enough imagination can almost see a human form within the flames, holding Typhon to its breast.
Lava Plume
(5)(5), (3)(6)(6)(6)(4)(6) = 9 perform

Kimono Girl vs Heart Rematch Round 3
Spark
(5)(3)(4)(4), (6)(1)(1) = 0 Perform
(3)(6)(2) Flareon takes 1 dmg 3/7hp -2 pain
CD: ineffective
The dancing flames whirl about with Typhon once more, so fast he becomes slightly dizzy.
Fire Spin, holding back
(4), (6)(1)(5) = 6 perform
(3)(4)(2) Typhon is out of the battle.
Typhon still gains 3XP and Heart gains 2XP, and collects another flower.
Malphena's Stealth +1:
(4)(3)(2)(4)(5)(6) = 5 successes
Ambush for Lilith is also +1 since she's far away and casting her attack into the future
(6)(3)(5)(5)(6) = 5 successes
Alert: 3 Insight + 3 Survival + 1 Alert
(3)(2)(6)(6)(6)(1)(5) = 4 successes
Thanks to the darkness and mists, Malphena gets the drop.
Icy Wind
(6)(4)(2)(6)(5)(2)(1)(1)
As the Marowak bones clash, Malphena appears behind them and sends a chill down their spine.
3 Str + 2 power -4 vit = 1d6+1
(5) Both Marowak take 2 dmg 6/8hp -1 pain
-1 Dex for the Marowak
There's only enough time to do one action, though.
Future Sight
(1)(1)(4)(6)(6)(5)(4)(3)(3) It'll be a critical strike!
Marowak A: (4) + 3 Survival + 3 dex = 10
Lilith: (4) + 5 = 9
Malphena: (1) +6 = 7, she can go first since she pulled off an ambush
Marowak B: (1) + 6 = 7
Xatto just stares calmly at Edgewalker with one eye and Nathan with the other.
Edgewalker sends out Stunfisk. (3)
Ralts: (6)
"Oh ho ho, I'm under no obligation to hold back now if it doesn't benefit me. But at this point, I should probably forfeit. I will give Stunfisk one round to impress me."
You're pretty sure he'd not a good enough trainer to pull that off.

Marowak B: (1) + 6 = 7
Malphena couldn't help but let out a high pitched crackle after she successfully crept on those bone wielding brutes and casted a spell that would freeze their very souls, the thrill of a good scare and the hunt putting her in a downright wicked happy mood! When she noticed that both Marowak were hardly rattled by her Icy Wind despite its potency/Type effectiveness, that caused the banshee's techinically mean spiritied joy to diminish somewhat as she gave both an confused and somewhat annoyed glare. What the hecky, those Grounded Pokémon were NOT frozen solid by her spells?! Well, to enact her master's Plan B then (that he also whispered to her before she went on Ambush): terrorizing them with her Ghostly, supernatural witchcraft, te he he~!!!
That devious thought well in mind,
Malphena conjured up two orbs of ethereal, glowey light and sent them spiraling at the two Marowak, the first one being aim right at the slowest, and then began intoning 'evil' spells that would make those them feel all the world's awfulness impact their very souls! Let's see how you handle those moves, you big boned bruisers!
Orders: Since Icy Wind is barely doing anything to them and I don't want to outright demolish them regardless, I'll have Ven's backup plan he whispered to her to be Confusing both of them with Confuse Ray (Starting with the slower one), before using Hex to curse their very souls for more potential damage overall. Assuming both bone breakers are Confused by the next Round, she'll stick to spamming Hex twice per Round on both targets, so as to give Lilith more of a chance to stretch her own arcane powers. If both are not confused, substitute those Hexes for Confuse Rays until they ARE. Double trouble, boil those bones with some mystical angle!
Moves:
Â
Confuse Ray
Accuracy: DEX (3) + Fight (3) + Channel (3) - 3/4 Actions = 6/5D6 Dice
Effect: Confuse the given target
Hex
Accuracy: 1st Round - 9D6 - 5 Actions = 4D6 Dice; All Rounds after that - 9D6 - 2/3 Accuracy = 7/6D6 Dice
Damage: STR (3) + 2 + *2 (If Target(s) are Confused) + STAB - Vitality (4) = 2D6 or 4D6 Damage Dice
Effect: None

"Neither am I. Â But I'm going to have them not KO your Stunfisk anyways if you're not trying to KO Ralts. Â Your choice. Â Ralts, Confusion. Â And as for you, my seemingly flighty friend...hit that flat fish with a few Night Shades."
Three Night Shades (10 d6 base accuracy, 3 D6 fixed damage) and 3 Confusions (10 base accuracy, 7 D6 base damage).  Let's try and end this quickly. If Edgewalker isn't trying to KO Ralts, we'll try to leave Stunfisk with 1 HP.
Edgewalker Round 3
"Stunfisk, if you've still got half your energy, use Bide. Otherwise, Discharge. Hold back if it comes to that."
Confusion 1
(4)(3)(5)(5)(4)(5)(6) Critical hit
(6)(2)(6)(2)(2)(4) Stunfisk takes 3 dmg 4/7hp -1 pain
Conf: (5)
Night Shade 1

Confusion 2, held back
(2)(3)(2)(5)
(6)(4)(4)(3) Stunfisk is out of the battle.
"Not too shabby, Stunfisk. At least you paralyzed them. Ralts can still Teleport while paralyzed, right? If not I'm sure Nurse Joy can fix that up stat. Here's your $600. I'll earn it back again soon, I'm sure. Thanks for the battle."

"Thank you for the battle as well. Â Yeah, he can Teleport while Paralyzed, so no worries. Â Quick question before you go: have you ever gone around Mt. Sentry or the Great Divide? Â How long did that take you if so?"
So, how much exp did everyone get from this battle?
The ambush worked to near perfection, how lucky! Though similar like Malphena, Shiva herself was somewhat mystified as well as deep down dishearted that the cold chill Ven's Ghost casted was barely doing anything to these Marowak, apart from making them more angry at best. Given how one of these seemed especially vicious and eager to fight these NEW foes than argue with the other Marowak over territory, this was probably the case.
However, Shiva did not show anything of that on the outside, it'd be hard to figure out in the faint light of her Litwick's flame anyway. Though she also instinctively searched for Ven's hand without looking up, to softly place hers onto his for the sake of comfort - the battle has started, there's no returning anymore.
"Lilith, you see that one Marowak that's moving faster than the other? I bet you do. It poses more threat to us, so I'd like to concentrate on that one at first. Flatter it, flatter it for its hard work to overcome the loss it had to endure rather early, distract it by doing so. Then, while it's still wondering, hit it with with a created shockwave of your psychic power, please. Know that I'll have your healed up if needed and will for sure do so after this battle regardless of the time."
--------------------
Orders for this Round: We'll go for a Flatter for Marowak A, followed by a Psyshock and let the Crit Future Sight add. Gothy is probably able to do more, but we rather not stress her with many Actions when this's her first battle. Also, doesn't she get a Loyalty Roll? There was none for that Future Sight. Or did your 'It's safe to use her in battle' indicate that she doesn't need one and mechanically obeys?
Accuracy Roll Flatter: 3 Dext + 2 Fight + 2 Allure - 2 Actions = 5d6
Effect: Confuses the foe and lowers its Strength by 1.
Secondary Effect: According to Bulbapedia,
this is how it looks when a Gothitelle uses Flatter.
Accuracy Roll Psyshock: 3 Dext + 2 Fight + 4 Channel - 3 Actions = 6d6
Damage Roll: 3 Strength + 3 Power of the move + 1 STAB = 7d6
Additional notes: Deals physical damage.
