"Views" feature (again, not sure if right place)
#1
I've noticed from testing, that the views feature on the forum also not only counts for you, it counts multiple times. If you remain on your thread and F5-refresh repeatedly, you can driver your thread's views WAY up, which would look strange upon viewing next to no replies. Theoretical scenario below with 9,389 views, yet no replies and the thread not even rated. Made using the Inspect Element tool, which is non-permanent, but it's enough to showcase what could happen.

Also, real example (applies only at the time of writing): Those 14  views on my other recent thread in the suggestions forum? All mine, from just checking in, noticing the number increase and refreshing a few times to test my theory.

Ah.....and here I though so many people were looking at our various threads up until now. Darn it!

Joking aside, I'm not sure why MyBB was designed to have that feature/flaw, unless the site designers wanted to leave an obscure option to artificially (and tediously) inflate the popularity of a given thread. *Shrugs* Oh well, guess its just a thing that has to be accepted.

Because it would be more work to program it the other way - you'd have to use cookies or IP logging to see if a view is unique. Which could potentially deliver false negatives and make your view count lower than it really is. It's currently logging actual views rather than unique views.

Our RPG threads go up every time one of us clicks into it, as you can tell from that thread being much more viewed than every other thread. If it tracked unique views, you'd expect a fairly even distribution of view counts on every thread in the whole forum.

All in all, it probably doesn't matter much either way. Just don't put too much stock in those view counts. (most views are probably bots anyway).
