Pokemon Rocket and an Untitled game

that was the idea (nothing about the magikarps?) Also, i had to keep the usual water-grass-fire triangle, because i can't change other fights with the rival besides the initial fight. The hard part was finding a water-type that could conceivably be used by Rocket.

I've changed my mind, instead of a Rattata or a Zubat I'd like to accept one of the Magikarp as my Starter and then play a silent Grunt that'll spectacularly and definitely fail on the very first mission, making Giovanni wonder whether she did that on purpose. Maybe she found out something horrible in the files of the Team that she shouldn't discover, and now she's taking the secrets with her; much later she will be praised as a hero who died to protect the secrets of Team Rocket.

Or she'll make it against all odds. With a carp. She'll poison Giovanni at the end to punish him for the bad Starter and become the new leader, who will reign over Team Rocket with a raging Gyarados. Failure in missions will result in being fed to it.

I'm currently going through a sh*tload of completed ROM hacks for inspiration (the well for Ultima is pretty dry, I already know where I want to go with Rocket. btw the starters in serious.png in my previous post are the *semi*final starters, unless someone can suggest a water-type that is well used by Team Rocket) now, unfortunately, certain Text Blocks aren't listed in the Text Editor I'm using for Silver Rocket, and the pokeballs still have the default messages. :Sad I am still blanking on a good character design for the male (Ultima, now) (I was doing a super-sayin style character, but scratched it, because I couldn't get the character to look right) I might end up using a modified version of Locke's (Final Fantasy 6) sprite for the male, but I haven't decided yet.

A few things:
1. In the intro dialogue for Rocket, the "now to tell me your name" should end with a comma. Just minor. Also make sure to replace every instance of "Pokemon" with "Pokémon".
2.  If you're wanting to create some Fakémon, Dragonfly Cave has some top tips for beginners.
3. I'm enjoying the progress you have made so far. Good work!

a: the game doesn't support the "é", I tried, and got "Pok mon" in the text block.(I'd have to change the in-game font to fix this and don't have any programs to do that)    
b: Put in the comma, but had to change "belief" to "faith", because the program won't let me put in text that is longer than the original text that was in that particular block.
c: going through the website you linked, it is very helpful, thanks

welp, here's the first fakemon, turned out pretty well, considering this is the second time I put pen to paper in the name of art.
took the picture with the camera on my phone (i don't have access to a scanner...)
   

if you are wondering, i lost the original sketch of the first time i put pen to paper for art's sake, the one in the spoiler is a remake of that sketch
i forget, how do i get the spoiler to say something else?

btw the design is partly inspired by a "hitodama", the japanese equivalent of a will-o-wisp.

Some punctuation marks mess this up, I forgot which ones exactly, but you'll see when experimenting.


I'm liking the idea of a Fakemon-line resembling a nightjar, and Ghost Type fits it well! More details on the design or an editing of the base form would be apreciated though, the latter looks a bit weird to me. ._.

by latter you mean the spiritomb preevo? and i feel that the first 2 stages of the nightjar family look like something out of angry birds. oh well, not like i'm a pro artist or anything.
and thx for the spoiler help, i used to know how to do it (a forum for anime i was a member of had the same feature, but it has been so long {i think that forum has sense been taken down} i forgot how)

Okay here's another update for Ultima: I broke the tutorial fight. I tried to change what oak says at the beginning to say "for the love of arceus" and broke the game, again. *sigh* wth does the game have to be so uncooperative?

Usually older games have obtuse coding and safety measures put in place to keep everything stable/working, and that even messing with things like the dialogue could be connected to some sort of string or line that tied into something important, which subsequently caused the game to meltdown. Only thing you can do if you don't have experience coding/re-coding old ROMS is either trail by error or seeking out communities that do have experience with what you are trying to do. Sorry I couldn't offer more helpful advice, but that's all I have for you atm....
