Nintendo continues its fight against gamers

Piracy is a problem of service and simply not being able to afford games at their exoberant prices now in days. If you don't got good service, then you're going to get piracy.

If pricing was the main issue, then surely Nintendo would have been having more problems with their profit margins for all these $60 games because the games wouldn't be selling as well as they have, no?

I think the main problem here is that Yuzu was visibly prominent in the Switch emulation space, which is already a bit of a red flag since it's the current gen console.  Slap on a patreon with (apparently) paywalled access to emulatable content, and that's a bit of a recipe for getting targeted by the legal ninjas!  Sounds a lot like what happened to Uranium when 1.0 released around the time Sun and Moon did.

Price is one of the main obstacles between getting games, yes. Games are expensive , especially with a bunch of companies adding in DLC and Pay to Win Content in their games post launch. I can't blame people for going on the high seas to grab their entertainment when they have to decide between luxuries and paying rent and covering the cost of living, and even more so since pretty much every major Triple AAA Studio is just terrible these days. We also don't really know how much profit Nintendon't is making these days , or if its even enough to please their shareholders - for all we know emulation has been a big enough thorn in their side for them to pluck and throw away to recoop loses and save face.

You make a good point about that, but I still dislike a major emulation platform getting nailed like they did. It sets a bad precedent for Emulation in general and is a big scare when it comes to games preservation and the sheer convenience of playing on a PC (and all the customization you can make thereof). Wish Yuzu dodged the Bullet Punch in the end, but they WERE playing with fire in the end....

...You know, that's why I also boycott Nintendo products, because it's that type of people Nintendo is that make disgusted about them. And the exorbitant prices they have in their products!

Speaking about it, has there actually been any news concering Nintendo's claims against Palworld? I didn't catch any wind at last, not yet that is.

Afaik, just the "We're looking into it" statement at the beginning of this year. Palworld is made by a Japanese company, so if there was anything to it, I'm sure that it would've happened by now

Something shared by EeveeBailey in her art-related PU-server yesterday:
[Image: image.png?ex=660f1204&is=65fc9d04&hm=727...dc8090192&]

Am I angry? Yes, very so.
Am I sad? Yes, a lot.

Like, I do understand wanting to protect your materials and copyright-issues, but RelicCastle was just some fans sharing and creating something they are passionate about, with no shady businesses or something (least not that I knew of). I admit that I haven't been active in their forum for quite a while. But it regardless holds a special place to me, I always enjoyed their Game Jams and playing through the various entries. I more often than not was amazed by what dedicated and creative people whipped up. It was through the RelicCastle forum where I learned about the FanGame-projects I am still following progress nowadays, and it was through that very forum that I joined two by-now-cancelled Fangame-projects as an artist and designer of Fakemon.

Heck, Nintendo's being kinda aggressive as of lately, or so me feels.

Seht shared some info on that in the main PU discord as well. According to him:

Quote:1) The DMCA was actually done by a third party. This is actually the truth, I've seen the sources

2) I have confirmation that everything on that site was backed up before it was taken down

3) I'm not sure when it will be fixed, hopefully soon, we'll see
It was a much larger discussion over in flux because the only way he can get that game was relic castle.
Apparently this third party was authorized to do this by the pokémon company themselves
The worst part is that relic Castle is home to 65,000 posts and 20,000 members.
It is the only place you can get most fan game material.

I have no idea why TPC decided that Relic Castle was a threat, though. Selling of fangames? Plans to make a Pokemon-centric forum of their own? Kinda bonkers, really.

Why'd they also take down a 7 year old YouTube video showcasing a mod that replaced enemy models in a CoD game with Pikachu?

This all just seems very indiscriminate and out of touch with the fans at first glance (though I will give them that headshotting Pikachu with a gun is probably a bit much, a 7 year old video does not sound like a prime target)

Relic Castle still has their discord server at least, so at least their community hasn't been nuked entirely.

Oh for the -

I crash for half a day to sleep off the overworking I've done, and I wake up to find Nintendon't being a bastard again. Aaaaaarrrrrrgggggh.....this is part of the reason why I don't have any faith in humanity at large, and yet another reason why I will NEVER buy anything from that crooked company again. Taking down fan projects is one thing - a real shitty thing, but it is TECHNICALLY within their purvue to do so to defend their IP... -but taking down an entire fan site that was only tangently involved in that is a massive overstep straight off the ravine. If I was not sure that the legion of Nintendon't fans and all the capital they had would make it impossible I'd suggest mass boycots of their products to get them to sod off until they adopted more ethical and positive business relationships with their fanbase. Because this? This move is how you turn it against you ENTIRELY for any other company not as big or old.

God, I hate that we can't legit hurt stupid, moronic , and hyper aggressive companies anymore - be REAL nice to be able to rub their noses in the shit they cause to get them to CUT IT OUT.

I just want to understand one damn thing: Why? Just...why? Those bunch of morons of Nintendo can't just stop for a second or two and see if they continue the path they are, they will only loose more prestige and fans? Honestly, I not that surprise anymore, since they are just a bunch of morons at this point.

*wipes off dust from this thread*

DidYouKnowGaming has released a new video worth of noting here:

Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtwa8ffkxJs&ab_channel=DidYouKnowGaming

Written by Dr. Lava, with the help of interviewing various devs of the mentioned fangames and overlooked by a lawyer before uploading according to his official twitter/x. No, I havn't gotten to see it myself yet because am still unpacking from my trip and frankly don't want to cause a scene here, but I heard good feedback about it.

EDIT: Okay, I've watched it. Great video, great insight indeed. I have one more thought:
