[Game Thread] Pokerole Mystery Dungeon: Primal Shadows

They don't seem to mind, but they do start to laugh.  All of them.  Loudly.  One of them eventually stops laughing long enough to actually speak.

"Ahahahaha!  Oh, that's a good one!  You must be new around here, laddie!  We're not adventurers!  We're the ones diggin' all the bloomin' tunnels 'round these parts!  Ahahahahaha!  Ahahaha...haha...ha...*deep breath*...yeah, tunnels don't dig themselves.  And someone's gotta make sure everyone who's comin' and goin' isn't on some bloomin' wanted list, eh?  Been a quiet day so far, can't complain.  Though the shift times were doubled recently.  Somethin' 'bout doublin' the security.  Don't know what that's about, but we have no complaints with followin' the leadership's orders, eh?  Don't get much time to rest, even on a normal day, and we aim to enjoy every minute we do get to relax.  Speakin' of which, what brings you to our humble little gatherin' while we're on break?"

Daxter frowns in confusion. "Wait, a bribe? Oh, crap, that was just a misunderstanding! We weren't trying to bribe you at all! We were just suggesting an alliance so that we could get through the dungeon a little more easily. And so that we could share the reward equally, of course. We really didn't mean to offend you guys! We were just trying to be polite and friendly. Wow, that might explain why you were so against working with us. Man, that sucks. I know you didn't want to team up with us last time because you thought that we couldn't help much cos we're so new, but I can promise you that we're not actually that bad. We've beaten our share of some of the tougher dudes too, actually. A Boldore and his gang of Roggenrola in the Dry Forest, and a nasty piece of work named Monferno in the Hall of Magic. Hell, we beat that Staravia dude, and a couple of his friends in a training dungeon today.

Sorry if that sounds like I'm boasting, definitely not my intention. Just trying to say that we're not that bad. We're new in town, and we don't have many allies, so I'd like to change that. At the very least, I'd like to be neutral with as many Pokemon as possible. Pointless animosity's not gonna get us anywhere, right? What do you say? Can we start over?"

Ponyta narrows her eyes as she continues to silently stare at Daxter, and for what seems like ages, the two of them just stare at each other in silence while Blitzle and Mudbray shift uncomfortably, not sure what to say.

Persuasion roll time!  This is a rational, empathetic/polite argument, so we'll use:
2 Clever + 0 Contest + 0 Empathy/Etiquette = 2d6
(5)(6) 2 successes

Then Ponyta finally breaks the silence.

"...alright, I suppose I can give you a second chance.  But I'll be keeping my eye on you."

It's at this point that Karen walks over and hesitantly joins the conversation.  "...is everything okay, Daxter?  I felt a huge amount of tension coming from this table a moment ago..."

Pyra raises an eye ridge at him at first as he describes the concept, but by the time he finished she gave him a short, firm nod back after mulling it over for a few seconds. "I see, understand clearly now. Then 'challenge' , if it be what you say, is something I say that I would normally disdain and refrain from, as I find unnecessary risk or difficulty undesirable for me-you-us. Many ways for such and such to cause us harm or havoc, yes yes. But....I can see what you find so appealing about it, I think-believe, wanting for more adversity to pit yourself against. Makes you feel good, yes, and better at what you accomplish and wish to excel in, so 'challenge' has boons and benefits in exchange for its inherent danger or risk. Hmm....mayhaps I should 'challenge' myself in the future, to improve and ready myself and our Team for our trails and journeys ahead...."

The brimstone imp shrugs in a devil-may-care way at his semi-accusation, as if to say 'Don't know, don't really care,' but the rest of his explanation grabs her attention, looking at the draco newt at surprise at first before a look of eureka dawned on her as she connected it (the explanation) to what Karen was trying to teach her in the Bug Training Maze. Being nice and generous with others, or rather faking it and/or putting effort to do/appear so if you genuinely can not (like herself the vast majority of the time), makes them more cooperative and pliable to work/deal with and makes it easier to do the same with others tightly connect or vaguely associated with them! That, and it minimizes the amount of enemies she or the group has to handle and creates opportunities everyone can exploit for maximum benefit! It was heady revelation that nearly made her zone out completely, before she shook her head and started to enthusiastically applaud Dax.

"Oh oh oh, NOW I get what you are saying, trying to convey to both me and Kogeki! Being compassion-kind to others, making them feel good and positive about us, creates many many benefits for everyone thus! Such an amazing concept, useful idea, that I bel-think I shall put more effort and practice into improving and making for we-me-us great reputation! Thank you for giving me-us this boon of Insight, Salamangreat Dax!"

Uh.....not quite the right idea, but given her personality I suppose that could be good enough?

Unfortunately for him, and most regrettably too, any ground that Daxter was making at 'tempering' her was arrested and throw back with his eagerness to double down on his attempt, as he quickly overwhelmed the poor lil' fiendess in her sensitive state half-way through and prompted a rather snappish backlash, swiping an arm across and bearing her teeth at him with a low, irritable, and flustered growl.

"No, nay, stopenough."

Her natural Intimidation was fully active as she stared hard at the aquatic salamander, panting slightly from the anxiety he inadvertidly caused. Then, slowly, she settled down, retracting her arm to her side and letting out a long, tired *Sigh*  as she started eyeing him with a odd mix of unease and apology.

"Enough, enough.... Done I am thinking about this matter, this curiosity, for now. Not ready yet to search and ponder answers to it, no, need time to further develop my own ideas and opinions before I can make be another attempt. Need not.....forceful suggestions, persuasive intent, waylaying me to an end-conclusion I would not have reach on my own. So please, please, let us drop this topic for now. Apologies for my rude and untoward reaction too, for I meant not ill will to you for your impassioned words, Daxter."

One step forward, and two steps back. Not the greatest outcome, but at least he didn't manage to alienate her entirely, or worse yet wholly reject the ideas he presented. Sometimes, with some people, patience and a gentler approach is for the best when they are in a delicate state.

Soon after she'd get up and leave for Team Artificer's table, now partially to put some distance between herself and Daxter after his untoward intrusion. She'd forgive him soon enough, for she could never stay made or vexed with her true friends for long. For the time being, though, she's a bit at odds with him, which is something that also bothers her too since she doesn't like being so with her aforementioned true friends. Yet another troublesome murky brain twister she had to deal with, oh dear....

*Flashback End*

(Welp, Pyra was doing so well in learning how to act 'right' , but trying to rush the progress ended up causing some panicked and irritated pushback and stall it entirely for the time being. She tends to react rather poorly to unexpected surprises or unwanted intensity, and she's smart enough to tell that Daxter was trying to use her vulnerability to try and manipulate her for his own reasons [well meaning as they are] and was not impressed. Maybe later he or the others can make another crack at it, but for now.....no more. Feel free to end this Flashback Scene for yourself too, though, no one !)

"Yes, quite.  Based on the information I have currently, I think it's quite likely that you may know something that would be of use to us."

"Well, then, little flame, asssssssk away.  Just know that we'll be collecting what we're due in sssssshort order."

The fiery demoness' smile widens at their acceptance of her deal, clapping her claws together in delight at her success.

"Excellent, most good for us, and very well, Hissing Chimical! My thanks to you all, much gratitude for your acceptance, yes yes!"

She spent a few more seconds thinking of what questions she wanted to answer and how to phrase them, before she settle on just three.

"My first question, to you Chimical and Solosis too: Why are you so hostile and aggressive towards my companions and group? That, and Marcus too? Know not anything we or bone craftsmon Marcus have done to earn your ire and scorn, save for my friends lack of tolerance and......feistiness towards you and your own, so I am most curious as to the why and how of this mater, yes. Unless our (Team OS) association to Marcus is the reason for that?"

"My second question, to you Solosis: What Knowledge do you know that can help me understand and work with others, my friends, strangers, or unfamiliars? You seem to be wise and toughtful, indeed, so I wish to learn what Insights you can share on how to most cooperate with others."

"My third and last question, for now, to you Chimical: What interests thee, motivates you to be who you are, your own goals as an Adventurer , and as the Leader of Team Artificer? Unlike my friends, nay, I yet hold no ill will towards your attitude, nor to your expressed views. Curious I am about them, want to understand what made them and what will come of them, I most definitely am-do, so if you can enlighten me I would be grateful to thee."

Dax raises his hands in surrender when Pyra shoots him the nasty glare. "Woah, okay. Too far. I'll drop it for now, but I'm not giving up on you just yet, love."

Daxter sighs in relief when Ponyta replies, and as he does so he sees Karen approaching. "Oh hey, Karen. This is Team Gallop. We met a little earlier, but we kinda got off on the wrong foot. Just came here to see if I can smooth things over. Make a few friends, that kind of thing. Oh, sorry, guys. I'm being rude. This is Karen. She's a member of our team."
I'm no one special. Also, here's a pupper pic:

Kogeki return the same silent stare too with his defiant gaze. "Now, now. No need to such hostility. It was also my first test, and yet I not here being hostile to you Torracat. I even came here to thanks for the battle. I guess whatever you came from they doesn't teach you in be friendly sadly."

Kogeki return his attention to Liepard. "Heh no big deal. I already get used it. Some Guild members already is either to much competitive, rude or even hostile. You are one of the few Team Members who wasn't be rude however."

"I would like to ask a few questions. I new here and I would like to have answers from a more experience member than me. I promise to be quick and not bother."

Chimical continues to circle Pyra's personal space, the snake tail hissing and snapping all the while, and Solosis makes no move to stop the hybrid pokemon while the questioning is going on.

"Oh, that'ssssss an easssssy one to anssssswer, little flame.  You're new here.  And very obviousssssly inferior to the great Team Artificersssssss.  And you will alwaysssss will be.  As for Marcusssss...well, why don't you go asssssk him yourssssself?  You ssssseem to be rather chummy with him, after all."

"I'm afraid we can't help you with your second question.  Your personal interactions are of no concern to us, so long as they do not involve us in some troubling manner."

"Yesssss, quite, Ssssssolosssssisssss.  And as for that third quesssstion...well, Team Artificersssss is greatly interessssted in the old wayssssss.  Though I do believe my floating asssssocccciate here can explain better than I."

"With pleasure, Chimical.  You see, there's a great many things that pokemon kind has either forgotten how to use or has yet to realize the full potential of.  It is the goal of our team's industrious leader to discover such things and put them to good use.  However, Chimical is not the leader of the team, and who actually is is classified information.  Just know that we are only a small part of a larger whole in the guild."

Stealth: (5)(5)(2)(3) 2 Successes
Alert: (4)(3) 1 Success

At this point, Chimical stops pacing around the Devimp, and Pyra suddenly finds that Golett moved at some point during the conversation while she was focused on the other two, resulting in her being surrounded by the trio from Team Artificers.

"Now, we ansssswered your quessssstionsssss, sssssso I believe that'sssssss enough talking about usssssss.  It'ssssss time to pay up, little flame.  We have one quesssstion for you, and one quesssstion only."

And what a question it is.

"Thossssse lights that were seen in the skies above the Ssssssand Continent sssssshortly before we encountered you in the Dry Foressssst...you and your friendsssss wouldn't happen to have ssssssomething to do with thosssssse, would you?"

Quite the hole Pyra's dug herself into, it seems.

"Oh, very well, if you insist.  I'd be lying anyways if I said that some different company wouldn't be enjoyable.~  And Torracat will behave himself, I'm sure.  So, what did you wish to ask of little old me?~"

That pointed remark from Liepard doesn't seem to phaze Torracat much, nor does he seem to care about Kogeki's remarks, but the cat doesn't appear to be making any aggressive movements.  At the very least, Kogeki's Anticipation hasn't triggered yet to indicate Torracat's about to Bite him, so that's a plus.

"Hmph."

Ponyta's response is rather unenthusiastic sounding.  "Charmed.  I'm Ponyta, and these are Blitzle and Mudbray."

Both of Team Gallop's supporting members definitely seem to have loosened up a little at this point.

"Hey there, nice to meet you."

"Hello.  Say, we didn't see you on Rough Rock Mountain with Daxter and that other pokemon...pardon me asking, but wasn't one of you in trouble at the time?  Everyone got out okay, right?"

"Oh, uh...yeah, that was me...little incident with Teleport...still learning how all my moves work..."  Karen blushes in embarrassment.

Ponyta rolls her eyes.  "Really, that's all it was?  All that fuss for that?  Why didn't you just Teleport again?"

"Oh come on now, Ponyta.  You remember how hard it was to escort that scaredy cat Abra that one time?  Probably would have ended up even more lost than that client."

"Ugh, don't remind me..."

"Well, I'm glad things worked out in the end, and I hope we'll be able to get along better in the future with you guys."

Kogeki nod in thanks once more. "Thank you. I also promise to behave myself too. I will try to be brief with my questions. As a exchange of information you can ask me questions in return too."

"Here my questions:"

1 - What exactly is the deal with the Guildmaster about making members go super competitive to one another? Shouldn't the Guild explorers be encouraged to work together in cases of help one another?

"This question is because one of us Team members get lost in the mystery Dungeon and we get desperate to find her. We ask for help but they refused to land any help."

2 - Why is Team Artificer acting in the way he act towards...well everyone? Using intimidation like that Chimical?

3 - Do you hear any rumors recently? Also, by chance do you know about the location of a Skarmory by chance?

4 - And finally: Do you see or hear about some strange Pokemon in this town? Other two Ghosts like me, but one who by chance have the appearance of a bird with multicolor feathers and one similar to a scorpion with a ball of fire in the center.
