Day 1 Summary:

  • Spencer (along with his Oshawott named Yasuho) steps off a boat in the Seacrest City Harbour and gets a cab to Acacia Labs so that he can start his internship with Professor Elizabeth Acacia
  • Natalia disembarks from another boat in the same harbour, and has a small altercation with the captain (ending in her Starly named Buster pushing him off his boat and into the harbour) before making her way to Acacia Labs
  • Rex speaks a Doctor named Franklin Acacia at Seacrest General Hospital who points him towards Acacia Labs to find paid work
  • Rex and his Treecko (Blade) get a cab to the lab
  • Doctor Acacia points Rex towards his sister's laboratory on the edge of town so he can get some paying work
  • Rex and Spencer arrive at the lab first, and notice a few scientists struggling with a Zangoose and a Seviper
  • The two of them wait in the waiting room as Professor Acacia is nowhere to be seen
  • Natalia arrives several minutes later, having had to hike through the large seaside city
  • Introductions are made, as a man named Jerry bursts into the waiting room
  • Jerry introduces himself and tells the group that Professor Acacia and her assistant are in Route 1 on a small trip
  • Jerry offers to take them to her
  • The four of them reach the spot where Professor Acacia and her assistant named Q are observing a pair of Pokemon (A Larvus and a Rookidee)
  • Jerry's clumsy approach to life causes the Larvus and Rookidee to go on alert as Professor Acacia notices the three other trainers
  • She asks the trainers a few questions before any two from the four of them (Rex, Spencer, Natalia and Q) to try and catch the two Pokemon
  • Q simply speaks to the Larvus to convince it to join him, while both Rex and Spencer try to do the same with Rookidee
  • Q succeeds, but the Rookidee attacks Q as they fail to convince it
  • Blade manages to intercept Rookidee's attack, and Rex battles it before catching it
  • Q names his new Larvus Tithonus while Rex names his Rookidee Galahad
  • Tithonus and Q's Togepi (Hecate) grow acquainted as Professor Acacia addresses the rest of the group
  • The group slowly makes their way back to the lab whilst conversing with Professor Acacia
  • Natalia asks the Professor if they can speak privately, and she agrees to speak to Natalia at the lab
  • Upon returning to the lab, the lab's lawn is ruined as the Seviper and Zangoose manage to break free from their bonds and start fighting
  • Q and Spencer fight the Zangoose alongside Professor Acacia's Breloom while Professor Acacia and her Magneton fight Seviper alongside Rex and Natalia to try and subdue them
  • The two Pokemon are knocked out and the group is free to move on
  • Professor Acacia gets everyone some lunch and begins speaking to them
  • She explains that there were mysterious reports from other regions' professors about wild Pokemon openly fighting
  • The benefactor of Acacia Labs, Steven Stone apparently decided to fund an expedition of a small group of trainers who would go around the world to observe the events, help out in any way and report back
  • Spencer and Q are sent on the expedition to get some real world experience, while Rex is there to provide extra muscle and to help out where needed
  • Natalia speaks to the Professor, and explains that she's not sure how she got to Medinia
  • Natalia was apparently examining a shrine in Celebi Park with her Creshirean Delta Houndour (Charlie) in Creshire when she suddenly found herself in an unfamiliar location, with her Houndour nowhere to be seen
  • Professor Acacia is unfamiliar with Creshire, and it is revealed Creshire doesn't exist, so Natalia must be from another reality
  • Professor Acacia explains that the Medinian Celebi is apparently a little more mischievous and a lot of disappearances are reported near the Celebi shrine
  • She also explains that a strange Houndour was sighted near Altheia Village, and directs Natalia to check there
  • Professor Acacia also reveals that the year is 2021, rather than 2038 as Natalia originally thought
  • Natalia agrees to join the group on the research mission
  • While Professor Acacia and Natalia speak, Spencer, Rex and Q all go through a training session with their Pokemon
  • Everyone eventually meets up again as Jerry gives everyone their starting pack of Poke Balls, Potions and their very own Dex Phones
  • Natalia goes for a training session while Spencer and Q rest
  • Rex goes down to the city to explore, before he too rests on a bench in the park
  • Natalia, Q and Spencer eventually go down to the city too
  • Rex finds a trainer to battle in the park, and manages to secure a win, before returning to the lab and going to sleep
  • Q and Spencer split up while Q goes to a candy store to buy a Whipped Dream and Spencer goes to a fashion store to buy Yasuho an orange bow
  • Q and Spencer eventually meet up at the battle facility in the park where Q finds a trainer to battle while Spencer watches
  • Q wins his battle, and he and Spencer make their way back to the lab
  • Natalia explores the city's alleyways, and eventually notices a boy bullying a Grimer that appears to be bigger than normal
  • She scares the boy off, and convinces the Grimer to join her before naming him Sal
  • She makes her way to a Pokemon Center, where she finds a Battle Facility and a trainer to fight
  • She wins, and she too returns to the lab before turning in for the night

The server icon for ShatteredEarth has been finished yesterday, enjoy. It features the respective leaders of the groups of Legendaries that are shattering the earth, as requested by Spoder.

I volunteered to work on that, and it's been a good practice for coloring digitally. The lineart isn't mine, it's extracted from some official artworks - the coloring however is, as I didn't like the shading in these artworks.

No One has been a little too busy to summarize the recent events of Shattered Earth, so SceptileScythe has stepped up to help our GM out a little with this.  Credit for the summary goes to Scep, and I'm posting here in No One's absence since I'm on the forums all the time anyways.  So without further adieu, here's Day 2!

Day 2: Summary

Everyone wakes up at about 7 in the morning.  The professor compliments Natalia on her new Alolan Grimer, and then proclaims that the day will be set aside for shopping for supplies. She also hints at a fifth member of their investigation team. The group goes with Jerry in his van (driven by a Mr. Mime) and get supplies like camping equipment and travel clothes. They then drive to the hospital to pick up medicinal supplies, where Rex is denied entry to see Beedee. Jerry apologizes and gives everyone $500 to spend on anything else they want to spend on, including lunch. The group buys supplies like potions, pokeballs, and other items they thought were important, and Rex spotted a TM for Hidden Power in the Mart, which everyone pitched in money to buy. After that Rex, Natalia, and Spencer ate pizza together, whereas Q decided to teach his Pokémon the newly bought TM instead. While they were eating pizza, Natalia initiated conversation and asked about her teammates, starting with Spencer’s interest in legends. Spencer answers by saying he’d like to look into the Celebi shrines and all the people who went missing, and asked Natalia if she knew anything about that. Natalia unconvincingly says that she doesn’t know much, but Spencer doesn’t pick up on it and instead asks Rex what his plans were. Rex shrugs off the question with a quip, but when a more specific question is asked about what Pokémon he wanted to see in the hospital was asked, he answers truthfully, a linoone. Neither Natalia nor Spencer question Rex any further. They all get some Seacrest Softserve to go after finishing their meals as well.

Q meanwhile manages to teach both his Pokémon Hidden Power successfully and meets up with the rest of the group half an hour later, presumable having eaten at some point. They get a message from Jerry on their phones from an app they didn’t have, telling them that they have that messaging app on a license, so it was relatively cheap to get, and also to come to the Devon Warehouse so they could meet up. On the way to the Devon Warehouse in the Warehouse District, Rex notices something is off, and quickly spots someone who was following them and calls this person out. Multiple people reveal themselves from the shadows and turn out to be the crew that Natalia sailed with to Seacrest City who want payback for the disrespect that Natalia showed them, as well as because he wanted revenge for Natalia “robbing his son of his rightful Grimer”. Rex tries to interrupt the man but is quickly yelled at and the situation devolves into a battle.
Natalia once again shows no respect for the sailor as all of them send out their Pokémon to battle.

The battle starts off in the favour of the protagonists as the weaker Pokémon on the sailors’ side are picked off relatively easily, while suffering minimal damage themselves. The sailor’s whose Pokémon went down tried to flee but a newcomer knocked them unconscious. This newcomer seems to be older than Spencer and introduces himself as Dexter, reveals that he is the fifth member of their group, then proceeds to join the battle as well. Dexter sends out three Pokémon: a Riolu, a Gastly, and a Midgardian Skorupi, which is a fire type. He also says that he has called the police so they could rest easy. With Dexter now as part of the group, the other sailors also go down relatively easily, with the chief sailor and his Throh and Honchkrow going down last. The sailor tries to run but is stopped by psychic energy that turns out to be from Jerry’s Mr. Mime. He then brings out a Swadloon and a Spinarak to string shot up the other sailors so they could be easily arrested by the police.

After the police arrive on the scene, Jerry takes the group back on his van back to the laboratory, where Natalia reveals that she knew the sailors before the scuffle to Jerry, much to his surprise, since he thought it was just a random mugging attempt. The conversation in the van remained mostly amiable. Once they reach the lab, the Professor chews out Jerry for letting the group go through the Warehouse District unsupervised, but lets him off relatively easy, then leaves the trainers to their own devices.

Natalia teaches her Pokémon Hidden Power and discovered that the Pokémon can’t just keep learning new moves, so she had to make Sal (her alolan Grimer) forget a move. Meanwhile, Rex tries to get the wild Kommo-o in the lab to train with him, but a miscommunication ensues, and it escalates into a full-blown volleyball game with people and Pokémon on both sides. During this time, Yasuho, Spencer’s Oshawott, picks up Hidden Power as well. Dexter joins in the volleyball game along with his Pokémon, while Spencer takes photos of the game and Q makes sketches of it. Meanwhile, Natalia is busy reading up on world history. The professor walks out and praises everyone for their actions and gives all of them a brown and white egg that is supposed to hatch soon. They soon head out to Route 1, and Spencer manages to convince a Solosis to join him without battling him and christens him as Mitos. Natalia then speaks up about the Pokémon she was looking for and asks Q to sketch it out for her, so everyone can have an idea of what they should keep a lookout for. It turns out to be a strange forme of Houndour, with its brain seemingly exposed and purple rings instead of the usual grey.

They soon run into a friendly couple and decided to stop there and set up camp for the night. Q explores a bit and runs into a Popplio who he manages to befriend, and christens Orpheus. Meanwhile, the group (minus Q) introduces themselves to this couple, who reveal that they did hear of a strange Houndour in Altheia Village. They soon turn in for the night.

Once again, I'll be posting on the behalf of No One, and also once again, credit for the summary goes to SceptileScythe.

A note from Sceptile before the summary itself:
I know the last one was like a summary, so I’m going to try and make this day’s summary more like a story at Dragon’s request. Here goes nothing.

Day 3 Summary:

The group wakes up thanks to an ear-splitting shriek from Buster, Natalia’s Starly. Everyone wakes up shaken and confused, especially Natalia, who was closest to Buster.  She taps his beak sharply in retaliation.

The couple comments that the group must have been exhausted because the sun had rose a while back, and then proceed to ask if anyone wanted to battle.

Rex accepts first, but then Spencer and Q wanted to test their skills as well. Natalia decided to pass. They hatch out an agreement (after Rex’s adamant refusal to battle her in a 2 v 1 format) where Rex and Q take on the wife in two 1 v 1s, whereas the older Spencer takes on the husband in a 2 v 2.

Rex actually loses his battle after Blade, his Treecko, fails to pull off a dodge-attack maneuver against the wife and her Flabébé.

Q’s battle was more straight-forward, and he manages to pick up the win with the help of Orpheus, his newly acquired Popplio, with relative ease. Spencer’s battle alongside Mitos, his Solosis, was more technical, involving moves like Reflect, but he also picks up the win in the end.

Meanwhile, Natalia goes foraging for things she might find helpful, and find that the place is quite trashed up. She has her Alolan Grimer to eat up the trash, and also finds some Apricorns. Natalia doesn’t seem to be satisfied with her search results though.

Dexter changes out of his old clothes to something more suitable for the heat, and then packs up all the tents and does some training with his Pokémon. His Riolu intently watches the battles that took place.

Rex sees that the boy he’s supposed to be guarding in this job won while he lost and is furious with himself. He quietly swears to himself that he will never lose again. He however manages to hide his emotions quite well so nobody else notices.

After the battles, the group, and the couple part on good terms after the latter offer some encouraging words of advice to the former.

As they were on their way to Altheia Village, Dexter finds that the rest had bought Hidden Power earlier and chides them for not telling him. He proceeds to tell that he bought an extension to the DevonMaps app which told him interesting things about the places on the map, and there were apparently ruins a little ways off of Route 1. Spencer decided to buy this extension as well. He also notifies them that Altheia Village was apparently being overtaken by a swamp, and it was a really rural area without a Pokémart. There’s also a guy there who can make Apricorns into pokéballs. Dexter’s description of Altheia Village rings some bells for Natalia, sounding like a place that was very similar back home, but she makes no comment about it.

After a while, they run into a trainer they had seen before in Seacrest City, but never interacted with before. He was the trainer whose pokemon was wrestling the wild Pangoro near Seacrest City a few days ago. He introduces himself as Damien and invites them to his camp for lunch. The group accept his offer and they all settle in to eat lunch.

While eating lunch they see how friendly Damien is with his Pokémon and how he gets along well with every single one of them. Spencer once again explicitly asks if Damien had seen a “stray dog Pokémon” which earns a stare from Natalia and an eyeroll from Rex. Damien answers affirmatively, telling them that the people there were saying something about weird dreams, but he himself did not experience any of that.

Spencer initially declines the offer to check out the ruins, but Rex wanted to go there to train, so he goads Spencer into accepting the offer. Natalia and Q agree to check out the ruins as well. Damien remarks that electronic devices don’t work around the ruins for some reason, which the scientists put down to a “magnetic anomaly”. Those words seemed to get a reaction out of Q, but he didn’t elaborate.

Damien looks at their Pokémon and asks if Altheia Village is going to be their first badge, which Rex affirms. Damien doesn’t say what Pokémon the gym leader was using in order to “not spoil the surprise”.  He does say that the gym leaders usually use more than one type and tend to stick to themes that encompass some two to three types. He says that they’ll get it once they face Emmeline, which seems to be the gym leader’s name. The conversation continues until members of the group decide that they want to train their Pokémon.

Rex decides to train both Blade and Galahad, his Rookidee, in the dodge-to-attack maneuver. He does this by throwing his ball and having Blade and Galahad sidestep before hitting it away.

Spencer has Mitos eat the Otatap berry he was holding, before deciding to go to the forest to forage for berries like Natalia did earlier in the day. He finds some berries, but is unable to identify them. The Berry Dex seems to be too expensive, so he decides to pluck them, and buy the Berry Dex to find out what they are later. He then runs into a Bronzor and tries to befriend it, but the Bronzor is not impressed and attacks, immediately taking out the weakened Mitos. Yasuho, Spencer’s Oshawott, rushes in to battle angry that his friend has been hurt, and together they manage to subdue the Bronzor and catch it, but Yasuho also gets injured in the battle.  The Bronzor was later named “Rorin”.

Q decides to do move training and has Hecate, his Togepi train up her Aerial Ace, while Tithonus, his Larvus, train up his Tackle.

Spencer manages to find his way back to camp with Yasuho limping behind him. Damien sees their condition and immediately gives Yasuho three Oran berries to recover some health.

The group continues to rest a little while longer until Damien gets up and says that he has to leave. He has his Pokémon pack up his things and the group waves Damien goodbye. He offers them some parting words by telling them he’d be looking forward to their participation in the League that was happening at the end of the year, and they could also call him if they were “going to do something cool”.

Their journey continues and they see a bunch of interesting things, like a trainer battle between a Magneton and a Metang, and a Ninjask being chased by a Manectric, while a Shedinja was slowly trailing behind the pair.

Eventually night falls and they set up camp once again, and Spencer lets out his Bronzor, revealing the reason why Yasuho was so beat up. Yasuho doesn’t seem to be happy with Spencer either. Dexter remarks that while they don’t need it now, they should probably learn to make a fire for the nights later in their journey. Rex asks why his Midgardian Skorupi couldn’t just help them start a fire, which Dexter answers by saying that he was too young for his flame to be hot, and he didn’t know any fire moves yet. Rex then proceeds to remark that his Galahad had Hidden Power Fire which could get the job done. Natalia quashes Rex by stating that Hidden Powers don’t actually summon the element, so that wouldn’t work at all. She then proceeds to say that she learnt the basics of fire-starting from her father so there shouldn’t be too much trouble, though it'd be easier if she had her Houndour. Spencer remarks that while a fire would be nice, he would be fine that night without one too. Q doesn’t bother saying anything. They turn in for the night, fairly comfortable even without a fire.

Well, this thread aged poorly. I'm gonna start updating it again, starting with finishing the Day 3 post off. There's a little missing there because there were some more events during the Day 3 Night. I'll cover those before doing Day 4.

Continuation of Day 3

As everyone settled into comfortable rest, Sal, Natalia's Grimer decides to go foraging for food in the woods. A few hours later, Sal returns to the camp site and realises that a huge portion of the group's supplies are missing. He and Dexter's Gastly start waking everyone up, resulting in Dexter, Natalia and Rex running out into the woods to chase after the thieves. They eventually reach a trainer with a Lunapup who appears to be furious at the Lunapup for leading the group to him and promises to deal with it afterwards. Dexter, Natalia and Rex battle and defeat the thief in a battle, causing him to furiously release his Lunapup and lash a kick into its side. Rex and Dexter attack the thief, knocking him out in the process while Q and Spencer finally catch up to the group. Realising that the Lunapup needs medical attention, Dexter suggests to the group that they use the thief's car to drive to the nearby Pokemon Center so that they can call the officials to take him away and get the Lunapup patched up. Dexter drives everyone there and around an hour later, the thief and Lunapup are both dealt with, allowing everyone to finally get some rest for the night.

Day 4

Everyone wakes up late in the morning, exhausted from the previous night's ordeal. As everyone meets up to discuss their plans for the day, they see a policeman take the thief and the car away. A Kangaskhan and her baby give everyone some breakfast before an arrogant trainer challenges any one member of the group to a battle, promising an immense amount of money if they were to throw the battle. Q accepts the battle but very quickly defeats the trainer, causing him to lash out at Q angrily. Dexter threatens him and scares him off by revealing that the trainer's dad apparently works for Dexter in one of his companies. The trainer runs off, allowing Dexter to reveal that he has an extremely rich father who had gifted him shares to a number of companies as an 18th birthday gift but Dexter refuses to use any money he makes from them as a way to get back at his father for abandoning his family and causing his brother to run away some years prior.

Meanwhile, Rex and Natalia decide to train their Pokemon. The Lunapup from earlier appears to have taken to Natalia marvelously and agrees to join her team, allowing Natalia to name it "Buttercup". After watching Q's battle, Dexter and Spencer also decide to train their Pokemon.

As everyone is preparing to leave, Natalia points out that there may be some special items on sale in the PokeMart inside the Center. She turns out to be right, as Water Stones appear to be available for half-price. Rex buys one, and everyone sets off.

As everyone walks through the woods, they see several impressive sights including a herd of Donphan roll past them, a Samurott drinking out of a lake and even a shiny Luxray which sprints off the moment it sees the group. Eventually, the group takes note of a lone Drilbur who appears to be using Rapid Spin to knock berries off a tree. Impressed by the Drilbur's ingenuity, Rex invites it to join his team. It does so, and he decides to name it Newton. The group carries on, catching sight of a heated battle between an Escartress and an Oblivicorn.

Not long afterwards, the group finally reaches the ruins. An elderly archaeologist greets everyone and introduces himself as Doctor Archibald Morwen, the leading Archaelogist of the research team in the ruins. He appears to find everyone's fixation on the electronic dead zone amusing but offers to show everyone around the ruins as he finds the perspective of youth to be refreshing.

He explains that the settlement was once called Kelona and that the reason why his team found the ruins to be so intriguing (other than the deadzone which he just dismissed as being an electronic dead zone) was because many other scripts seemed to refer to Kelona being a fairly large city but the ruins appeared to be rather small. Most of the research conducted in the ruins is focused on a temple at the center of the dead zone that has several hundred square meters of walls covered in an unknown dialect of Unown script. He leads everyone further into the ruins and once they step over a demarcated red line, their Dex Phones shut down and their Poke Balls deactivate and let all of the group's Pokemon out. Once you reach the building, Dr Morwen explains that the writing on the walls appeas to be describing a group of trainers who were worshipped as gods due to their ability to befriend and tame immensely powerful Pokemon. One such Pokemon was vaguely described to be Avian and was said to summon the most violent thunderstorms and resided high in the mountains surrounding Mt Olsgard and another was apparently a Bug type Pokemon that was capable of summoning powerful sandstorms that buffetted the deserts of the large region to the south of Medinia known as Luxia.

As everyone continues looking around, some of the Pokemon start to get bored. Newton, Rex's Drilbur, examines the floor and appears to sense that something about it is not at as it seems, causing hik to try to get Rex's attention regarding it. Dexter's Gastly Licks Hecate, Q's Togepi and goads her into chasing after him. She throws herself at him and misses, colliding with the wall and causing one of the bricks to give way, much to Dr Morwen's horror. The entire room begins to shake, causing the floor to open to a staircase that leads deep into the ground. Dr Morwen's anguish quickly gives way to glee as he urges everyone to help him explore the ruins under the temple.

At first, Dr Morwen is disappointed with the cavern that the passage leads to but Dexter points out that there are more passageways leading out of the room. The cavern itself seems to be filled with luminescent crystals, causing Dr Morwen to look at them with intrigue. Before the group can do anything else, however, an Aerodactyl attacks them. Though it is difficult, they are able to defeat it. After it falls, Newton realises that the walls are metallic and only appear to be stone. He points this out, causing a small disagreement between Rex and Dr Morwen about what to do next but the argument ends quickly as everyone follows Newton through one of the passageways.

The passage leads to another cavern, but this one appears to be filled with a strange blue mist and has two enormous crystals in the middle. As the group approaches the crystals, the crystals begin to glow and pulse, pulling all of the mist to them and absorbing it. The crystals shatter once all of the mist is absorbed, revealing a Lairon and Cradily trapped inside. After another difficult battle, the group manages to defeat the two Pokemon and look around the room. Dr Morwen gathers some shards of the crystals so that he can get analysed before he starts theorising.

He explains that activating the secret passageway in the temple is what probably caused the mists to activate and free the crystallised Pokemon. He then examines the walls in the room, finding more glyphs and excitedly reading through them. He then explains that the writing appeared to be referring to an event which had taken place in the Galar region three thousand years ago. He realised that these events were referring to the surge of Dynamax energy in the Galar region and the subsequent defeat of the Pokemon that caused it before explaining that more recently, a young girl and her friend stopped the revival of this powerful Pokemon. He then suggested that the group could rest for a little while and ask him questions while their Pokemon recovered.

Natalia asked him about why none of these things were ever public knowledge and Dr Morwen revealed that the reason that so many things about Ancient Medinia were unknown because the region has historically been governed by very corrupt systems that made the prospect of working in the region very unappealing. In more recent years, a change in leadership of the Medinian region resulted in a flood of funding for academic causes, finally allowing people to do research on Ancient Medinia. Dr Morwen then began to theorise that the reason that a story about Galar was engraved here was because the Pokemon known as Eternatus likely arrived in Medinia first and made its way to Galar before being defeated there. That would explain the existence of Power Spots where you can Dynamax your Pokemon in Medinia. He then remarks that the encasing of the Pokemon in crystals was likely not a natural occurence and was rather a man-made one. He doesn't think that the Medinians were the ones who did so, however, as the Medinians weren't advanced enough to make something like that.

Once the group moves on, they come across more writing but this writing doesn't seem to be based off any form of Unown script, giving Dr Morwen no small amount of glee. They eventually arrive in an enormous cavern with yet another crystal. This one, however, appears to be seventy feet tall. The walls also appeared to change colour and now look more metallic than like stone. A pyramid sits in front of the crystal, but its cap stone appears to float above it. The metal seems to spread to the floor too and a strange pulsing energy, almost like circuitry, hums and glows towards the pyramid. Whilst examining the "circuitry", Dr Morwen remarks that he doubts that humans had built this as the technology necessary for it was well beyond anything of that time. Dexter then teases Spencer for not wanting to go to the ruins, resulting in Dr Morwen laughing and remarking that all ruins are worth visiting. Natalia's remarks about time travel likely not playing a part in these ruins causes Dr Morwen to inquire about her father as he would like to correspond with him but backs off once he sees that the topic is making Natalia uncomfortable.

Dexter then climbs up the pyramid to examine the capstone and shouts to everyone that the capstone appears to fit with the rest of the pyramid like a puzzle piece, prompting Dr Morwen to encourage him to connect the pieces. He does so, resulting in the enormous crystal shattering, revealing a supersized Pokemon, causing Dr Morwen to realise that the Pokemon is a Dynamaxed Doedino. The Pokemon is quadrupedal and appears to have a tough exterior with a short clubbed tail. Dr Morwen remarks that Doedino haven't been seen alive in thousands of years and shouts at the group to battle it in the hopes of forcing the Dynamax energy to dissipate. Much to everyone's surprise, the pyramid seemed to be the cause of the dead zone as Dr Morwen's radio suddenly begins working again. He calls for help while everyone prepares to battle the Doedino.

After a difficult battle, the Doedino is defeated, causing the Dynamax energy to dissipate. Dr Morwen then theorises that whoever built the place designed it to keep the Dynamax Energy contained. He then starts planning more research on the place as he remarks that he'll need more cryptographers, engineers and geologists to cover the new areas. Spencer decides to capture the Doedino while Natalia asks the old archaeologist to elaborate on the new discoveries. He then explains that the Dynamax particles (known as Galar particles) circulate between Pokemon. Once a Dynamaxed Pokemon is defeated, another Pokemon will be imbued with the particles. The crystals appeared to have "frozen" the Doedino in place and the particles along with it, stopping the circulation of said particles.

At this point, the rest of Dr Morwen's research crew files into the room and begin to set up their equipment in the room. A geologist named Nadine Kalani makes everyone's acquaintance before she and Dr Morwen catch up on the events of the evening and start planning out what to do. Eventually, the group finds a door at the back of the room that became visible once the Galar particles dissipated. Hecate uses Metronome near the door to try and break through to no avail. Realising it's late, Dr Morwen and Kalani both suggest that the group make their way back to the surface so that they can get some sleep. Many scientists appear to be awake despite the time and Dr Morwen invites the group to use any facilities there. Along the way, Dr Kalani offers everyone the option to take a shard of the crystal, remarking that it seems to be a variant of quartz. Q and Rex find some scientists to battle as they seem to still have some energy to burn off and after a loss and a win respectively, everyone decides to head to bed.

A/N: This was a very long and detailed day. If anyone's interested in seeing what the Midgardian Skorupi and Doedino look like, please say so and I will post some pictures.

Yo I'm the player that controls Rex and I have decided to write up Day 5 since I'm quite bored. We're not actually this slow in the actual game (only slightly slower) seeing as we are in day 18 as of writing this post. Without further ado, enjoy.

The group is woken up early in the morning by a little shit of a scientist who was obstinate in them being up and about early in the morning for a meeting, much to the chagrin of Natalia and Dexter. After the band freshens up, they go to meet Dr. Morwen while letting their mons finish the apples from last night, which they were happy to do so. Well, most of them were happy to do so. Spencer’s new catch from yesterday, the Doedino christened “Panzer” was more than happy to just curl up into a ball instead. Spencer’s attempts to coax it out fail so he shrugs and leaves for the meeting and his Oshawott, Yasuho doesn’t have much luck either. Newton, Rex’s Drilbur took matters into his own hands by placing an apple next to Panzer and getting everyone to back away, which yielded a positive result.

Meanwhile at the meeting itself, the trainers meet a notable figure via video call. Ilsa Larsen who is a red-haired woman that is the Dean of the New Theneria Institute of Science while also being the mayor of New Theneria. She asks them to keep yesterday’s discoveries at the runes a secret as it would help the research go more smoothly but admits that she cannot make them sign an NDA over it. She instead offers to do them a solid in exchange for their silence, with Spencer getting a scholarship in the NTIS which he can start immediately after his time as Acacia’s intern comes to an end. She reveals to Natalia that she knows about her situation as Acacia trusted her with it and lets her know that there were rumours that her “lost possession” was spotted around Altheia Village. Natalia is unsure of what to think about another person knowing her situation, but she decides to put her trust in Ilsa. However, she is also confused since her previous information was that Charlie was in Sunfall Town. The dean then asks Q, Rex, and Dexter what they wanted and told them she would give it to them as long as it was within reason. Rex asks for the apps on his phone which were behind a paywall to be unlocked, and while she couldn’t unlock all of them, she does unlock the relevant apps for the group. Dexter asks for her to send a Pokémon to his family back home to help with the chores which she obliges as well. Q keeps silent and seeing this Hecate tries to help Q by showing Ilsa a photo in his pocket, but Q manages to get Hecate under control and keeps this mysterious photo hidden.

After the voice call ends, Doctor Morwen cordially states that Larsen likes them, and having a friend like her will get them places. He goes on to say that he doesn’t really have any answers for what happened the previous day, their attempts to investigate the ruins (and specifically the metal door) further ending in failure. He promises to keep in touch and provide them updates if they make any progress. With that, the group is off, walking from the ruins to Altheia Village, the location of the first gym and also where Charlie was last spotted. As their apps get unlocked thanks to Rex’s request, Dexter appreciates Rex’s presence of mind while also commenting that his egg was six days away from hatching and that was probably the case for everyone else as well. The group runs into sibling trainers:  Mari and Zara, the latter being mute due to a childhood throat injury.

The pair challenge two of the group to a multi double battle, to which Spencer and Natalia step up to accept the challenge, while Q and Rex choose to spend their time training instead. In the battle, Mari and Zara reveal a Unovan Yamask + Galarian Yamask core, to which Natalia sends out her Alolan Grimer, Sal, while Spencer sends out his partner, Yasuho. Initial trade of blows swings the momentum towards Natalia and Spencer as a Water Gun preceded by a Bite onto the Unovan Yamask takes it out. Mari sends out a Cottonee to replace her fallen mon which immediately revenges by taking out Yasuho with a super effective Mega Drain. Meanwhile, Sal is doing massive damage to the Galarian Yamask with a Bite, also successfully managing to flinch it. The Fairy Wind from Cottonee wears down Sal a little, but he manages to tenaciously hang on and stay healthy with the help of his Black Sludge. Spencer sends out Rorin, his new Bronzor to replace Yasuho. The Galarian Yamask proceeds to go out sad in the next series of moves after taking another Bite from Sal. Sal, who is quickly turning out to be the hero of this battle hangs on for dear consciousness once again as a Fairy Wind from Cottonee barely fails to knock him out. Rorin chips down the Cottonee with multiple hits despite catching a nasty Stun Spore from the same but it manages to hang on still. Zara replaces her Galarian Yamask with a Combee while Natalia swaps out the unbreakable Sal with Buster, her partner Starly. While this swap was happening Mari quickly runs forward and heals up the worn down Cottonee to almost full, and this mon throws out another meaty Fairy Wind that smashes into Buster, who’s heavily damaged from this attack, but not quite out yet- wait never mind, down he goes to Combee’s Gust before he even got a chance to attack. Maybe next time. Rorin’s not just standing (hovering?) around, though. It focuses his attacks onto Combee, chipping it greatly, putting it on the verge of getting knocked out, while barely getting hurt itself. However, the Combee certainly was not finished, as it uses the energy it got from downing Buster to evolve into a menacing Vespiquen mid-battle. However, the siblings will soon learn that a mid-battle evolution does not give them the plot armour that they think it does, as Vespiquen immediately proceeds to get knocked out by Rorin before she could move, and the Cottonee despite its best efforts proceed to get cleaned up by Sal and Rorin.

Mari and Zara don’t take this loss too well, revealing that they have been in a slump for a bit, getting absolutely cooked in the swamp up ahead despite having breezed through their first badge. Dexter is concerned by this information as he isn’t quite sure how they were going to beat the Altheia Gym with no badges if trainers with one badge got their asses handed to them. Natalia confidently states that they would never know if they could beat the gym leader until they tried and asked him to worry about it too much. Rex reminds him of Damien’s words (or Haxorus Guy, as Rex calls him) that Gym Leaders always had different Pokémon they used depending on how many badges their opponents had. The time was a little past 9 am and they were around two hours away from Altheia Village, so the group hurries so they can reach there in time for lunch.

The mud-soaked group arrives at Altheia Village, which apparently was not an uncommon sight as the villagers moving about mostly ignore them. Not all of them, though. A grim-looking villager introducing himself as Nikias greets them without a smile. He informs them that the gym leader wasn’t currently in town, but they could get food and beds at the lodge. Medical supplies were a different matter, however. Healing was scarce and they were to only request it if absolutely necessary. He also informs them that they were to visit the Currency Exchange in the village, as the stores in the village operate only on cash, and not the digital currency that the rest of the world is used to. Natalia asks where Emmeline was if she was not at the village, to which Nikias replies that she was at Route 2, trying to quell the wild mons that were acting more rowdy than usual, mentioning in an off-hand manner that it shouldn’t be too much trouble for her, and that she should be back in a couple hours.

Rex and Natalia head towards the market while Q heads out on his own to Route 2 to see what the hubbub is about. Spencer figures Yasuho’s injuries were absolutely necessary to be treated and decides to head into town to try and get him some healing. Nikias isn’t impressed by Spencer’s plea and asks him to fuck off to the lodge if Yasuho was just down, mentioning that the heated swimming pools in the lodge have the ability to rejuvenate Pokémon. Q has similar luck as he finds the path to Route 2 blocked off by a man with a Palpitoad, who refused to move on Gym Leader’s orders. Rex has a more successful time as he picks up supplies at the market while Natalia overhears a couple trainers talking about a “Darkrai phenomenon” which she proceeds to enquire with them about. One of the trainers mentions that she had a dream to do with the phenomenon, which is somewhat of a misnomer as she didn’t see a Darkrai, instead seeing a small dog-like Pokémon, and a bigger dog-like Pokémon that chased it. On query, this trainer confirms that the bigger dog-Pokémon looked very similar to the smaller one, which leaves Natalia very confused as Charlie should be the only Delta Houndour in Medinia. Rex is reminded that Altheia Village has no Dex Phones, so he heads to the Currency Exchange where he witnesses Dexter malding over the cashier’s unwillingness to withdraw him a non-round amount of money. He shows off a newly caught Slowpoke to Rex which was hanging around the village and says he wants to replenish his pokéballs stock, but the lady was refusing to withdraw him his $887. He threatens to call her boss and fire her, flexing his connections, and this finally forces her hand, and she hands him the uneven change while not particularly pleased about it. Rex doesn’t feel particularly benevolent that day (like most days) and makes no comment about Dexter’s strongarming and simply asks to withdraw $900 so he wouldn’t have to deal with any additional fuss despite him only needing $880. Dexter forks over the uneven $37 back to the cashier as a tip as “an incentive to be a little less of a shit next time”, commenting that he hated uneven amounts, so he wanted to get rid of that change from his bank account. On their way to the market, Rex brings up what happened at the Currency Exchange asking if Dexter could really get the cashier fired (as he wasn’t around when Dexter was explaining his financial situation the first time). After Dexter explains his situation, Rex asks if he was really planning to whine to his father about a random cashier out in the sticks. To this Dexter claps back that he never speaks to “that old fuck” and could get it done through a PA instead. He further comments that he would never actually try to get her fired, his threat back at the Exchange were empty.

Dexter apologizes for over-sharing and asks if Rex had a decent relationship with his parents, to which the latter quietly replies that they are missing and Beedee, the linoone at Seacrest Hospital that belonged to his father was his only lead. Dexter panics but Rex seems nonplussed about Dexter going on and on about his father while his was nowhere to be found, waving away Dexter’s offer to help out Rex by hiring a detective to find his parents. Rex does ask Dexter to keep quiet about his parents to the rest of the group, to which the wayward son happily obliges.

Meanwhile, Q and Spencer run into each other on the way to the lodge. Spencer raises his hand in greeting, but Q looks away, looking to limit his social interactions. They head into the building together and sign a couple documents to secure their lodging before being taken to the showers by a Bibarel. The showers blast them with ice cold water forcing them to haul ass to the heated swimming pool, which reinvigorates Yasuho, seemingly healing his injuries. Spencer tries to strike up a conversation about what potential Pokémon they could face in the first gym with Q, but Q was as taciturn as ever, preferring to watch his partner Hecate have her fun with the water. He sends out Orpheus, his Popplio to enjoy the pool as well, which turns out to be a good idea as he flips right into it, sighing serenely as the warm water relaxes his muscles. Dexter walks in, having joined them at the lodge, and introduces Q and Spencer to his new Slowpoke. Natalia had also made it to the lodge, washing up at the women’s bathroom before heading to the heated pool (which seemed to be unisex) meeting up with Q, Spencer, and Dexter. Dexter asks her if she found anything about her partner to which Natalia replies unsurely, not quite having gotten concrete enough information to get her hopes up.

Around the same time, Rex finds himself accosted by a strange young man named Keegan as he enters the custom pokéball store who offers him a tour of the shop. Rex is somewhat annoyed at this guy in his face but agrees, nonetheless. Keegan explains that the shop uses Apricorns to make balls, while the main official balls use metal casings which are sturdier but less comfortable for the Pokémon. The Apricorns are also apparently quite rare, and people have not found a way to cultivate them. Every part of an apricorn is useful and it's for this reason that the shop doesn’t charge trainers if they bring their own apricorns to make pokéballs out of, simply keeping every part of the apricorn to make use of or sell instead of charging the trainer a fee. After his speech he asks Rex if he would like a ball made for him. Rex states that he neither has apricorns nor currently has much money but he is willing to do the shop a favour within reason in exchange for a couple of balls. Keegan refuses, stating that they were self-sufficient enough and didn’t really need any favours, but did mention that apricorns grew in a couple places around the village and Rex could try his luck there if he wanted to get his hands on some of them. Before Rex could head out in search of apricorns though, a young trainer burst into the pokéball shop asking for every trainer on hand to help out at the swamp at the request of the gym leader.

Dexter, Natalia, Spencer, and Q who were conversing in the heated pool about Charlie and Slowpoke tails (two completely unrelated topics, check out the Shattered Earth discord for the full conversation), Nikias burst in bearing a similar message. The group at the pool quickly change out of their swimming outfits (Natalia grumpily so) before following Nikias into the town centre where they meet Rex who seems to have arrived at the same time as them. At the town centre they meet Emmeline, a woman in her early twenties wearing camo. She cuts through the questions and the chatter with her voice and talks about how it was basically “open warfare” out in Route 2 with groups of Pokémon attacking each other and also any passer-by trainers. She was basically ambushed by a small army of Pokémon and barely managed to get back to the village in one piece, and the exhausted Krookodile next to her was clearly in agreement. Around forty trainers had gathered at the town square, and she assigned ten of these trainers into leaders who would lead small groups out into Route 2 to quell the wild Pokémon. Natalia and Dexter are picked up by a formidable looking woman named Sandra while Q is pulled along by Nikias. Spencer gets picked up by a tall, balding man named Kallas while Rex accompanies the gym leader herself.

All the trainers of the group recall the Professor’s words about groups of Pokémon warring against each other which they were told to investigate, and this seemed to be one of those fights. Rex commands his Pokémon to try and glean why the wild Pokémon were fighting each other during the battle and convey to him what they had learned at a later point when they would have more time while Q asks Nikias to avoid fights if they can, a sentiment Spencer seemed to agree with.

Dexter and Natalia duke it out with a Mareanie and a Mankey, getting the Tikiki that was fighting them to stand aside since they were fighting its enemies. The Raticate that was on the side of the Tikiki gets poisoned by the Mareanie, but this activates its’ Guts which makes it smash everything in its path. They manage to quell the scuffle with Buster and Dexter’s Slowpoke and Natalia catches the Mareanie. Sandra quelled the Raticate with her Carnivine and catches it so it can be a guard in charge of protecting Altheia Village. Right as they thought they were done there, they come face to face with a large, green, quadrupedal Pokémon that seemed to be extremely angry with them for breaking up the fight. Natalia seems to recognize it. “-was that the Legendary Virizion?”. Luckily for them it doesn’t engage, disappearing into the foliage. The Tikiki manages to sign its way into explaining how it was sent by Virizion to scout the Rattata’s unit and agrees to come along with Natalia, who gets out of that encounter with two Pokémon she didn’t previously have.

Q and Spencer stop the fights in their zone without too much incident, with Q catching a Nidorina and naming it Venata and Spencer catching a Chicoatl and naming it Ray. Q did use his Whipped Dream to feed the Venata (which is really funny in context) as he promised he would give the temperamental mon something to eat if she joined her.

Rex alongside Newton (his Drilbur) and Galahad (his Rookidee) teams up with Emmeline and her strange water Krokorok to take on yet another group of wild Pokémon fighting each other. They put down the dissidents pretty quickly but then have a close encounter of the sword kind with a tall silvery-blue Pokémon with a moustache who is recognized by Emmeline as Cobalion, who also seemed to be furious with them for stopping the fighting. Cobalion charges at them and Emmeline reflexively sends out her Swampert, and the moustached Pokémon baulks at seeing the stone on Swampert’s neck before retreating back into the swamp.

After the scuffles are settled, all the trainers trudge back to the town. It was evening by this point. The group reconvenes and discuss their findings. Virizion and Cobalion were spotted, but Natalia notes that Terrakion was nowhere to be found. Spencer hasn’t really heard of these Pokémon before, but Q has something interesting to say. He dubs the group the “Swords of Justice” and wonders where Keldeo was if two of the members were here. Rex volunteers to register them for the gym battle tomorrow, asking for the spellings of the names of all the group, and for the first time discovers Natalia was not “Natalie” and Q was in fact, spelled with one letter. Natalia heads off to the custom pokéball shop while Rex goes off in search of apricorns after registering the group for the afternoon session next day. Spencer and Q have a little conversation about these Swords of Justice on their way back to the lounge. Q reveals that these Pokémon are from his home region, and they’re known for challenging humans in order to protect Pokémon, which seemed to be clashing with their behaviour today. They head to bed shortly afterwards.

Natalia talks to Keegan and arrives at the same conclusion that Rex did earlier that day, but she is spared of the effort of searching for apricorns by Rex who shows up with three apricorns as she finishes speaking to Keegan. They head inside to learn how to make apricorn balls after Rex and Natalia buy a pokéball making kit for $500. Robert was an old worldly-wise man that didn’t take much nonsense. He goes into a huge lecture you can read at the Shattered Earth discord server that I really can’t be asked to summarize cause it’s not too relevant to the plot but yeah Natalia and Rex learn how to make apricorn balls, with Natalia having a love ball and two lure balls, while Rex had a heavy ball, a moon ball and a net ball. Robert is happy with the results and implores them to carry on the apricorn ball making trade.

Natalia asks Robert about a “pokeball that nobody could open” to which Robert comments that he did hear about one that existed in Johto. She then proceeded to work on making those pokéballs a little while longer before heading to sleep. Rex heads back to the lodge and before going to bed looks up “Cobalion, Virizion, Terrakion and Keldeo” on the pokedex to get a measure of what they were dealing with. The pokedex barely has enough information on Keldeo going far enough to state that it has never had a documented reaction to humans, and Rex notes that Q still casually name dropped such a secretive mon that even the dex has barely heard of. He doesn’t make too much of it though and quickly heads to bed as the day comes to a close.

Holy shit that was a long-ass day. You could see me cutting corners a little bit there. Let's just say that's me encouraging you to join the Shattered Earth server https://discord.gg/bxxZzrnu4s where you can catch the action live instead of having to read musty summaries. I'm not a big forum guy as you could probably tell by the absolute lack of any kind of BBCode formatting, but you can catch me being way more active on discord.
I plead the 5th.
