"I'm sorry. I didn't catch your name, Doctor?"

The guarded question is posed neutrally, as much a query of social status, as a solicitation of information.

Doctor as in a lettered professional? Or Doctor as a conciliatory concession to rank. How he interprets and answers tells me as much.

He adjusts his cane and proffers his free hand in a gesture of a handshake. "Name's Vincent."

A concession of information to get the ball rolling.

"This little brat here answers to Winston, at least when he's not sitting around eating me out of house and home." He gestures at the Growlithe which has parked itself protectively at his feet and was surveying the assembly with interest.

It cocks it's head and issues a whine that, had it been able to speak, would loosely translate into "OH MY HONOR!"

"You know it's true, little guy."

Initial Meeting at the Professor's Lab: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Bq_tYRBzdg

Nathan cast a sideways glance at everyone from the corner he was in as they made their decisions. Having lived in Trillium all his life, he hadn't even heard of this 'Almanac' before. It worried him though, that there was apparently more detail on such troubling entries for Ralts than any other pokemon at the moment. Try as he might to hide that worry though, he knew Ralts could sense it. And he could sense that Ralts was somewhat worried too. Extra worrying was that young Ralts are mostly defenseless if they have no egg moves, and seeing as his Ralts knew none...

Well, no time for that right now. He'd cross that bridge when he got there. What he had to consider now was whether he was going to drop several weeks worth of allowance on a pokedex. Would it help him on this journey to find out what had happened to Ralts? Maybe. Knowing what he was up against could be helpful in the future...and who knows what he could be facing at this point...

Nathan pulled $1300 out of his pocket, stared at it for a moment, then set it down on the table and slid it over to Mallorn. "Here. Forewarned is forearmed, right?"

As he accepted the pokedex and various items, he took another look at the girl, Shiva. He noticed she hadn't taken a pokedex, despite the job offer to help start a Day Care Center. How curious. She must have some sort of reference she uses. That kind of job almost requires one.

He next looked over at their escort and the researcher. Vincent and Ventus, right? Vincent didn't seem like a chatty type, but Ventus was doing everything he could to get some form of speech from him. That Growlithe looked a tad uncomfortable too...Nathan had no idea what kind of researcher Vincent even was. But whatever field he worked in, he definitely didn't look the part for it. Tweed sweater? Sandals? Slacks? He'd at first thought he might be the most strange looking visitor to the lab today, what with his tendency to never leave home without at least a light jacket despite living near an active volcano, but he was glad he wasn't. The rain also helped him look less ridiculous to the townsfolk for now as well, for that matter...

Looking over at Nate, Nathan definitely knew who he was. The guy was practically the talk of the town for the entire week when everyone heard he was coming to visit Mallorn. Stories about him and his Zorua abounded, but he didn't see a Zorua or anything that could be one in disguise anywhere...to be honest though, Nathan didn't exactly believe those stories too much. Zorua are incredibly rare, even rarer than Ralts is, and Nate didn't exactly look like a guy who might have one. He was surprised Nate was only just a little younger than himself though. The stories that were passed around hadn't said anything about his age...their names were annoyingly similar too...Nate also hadn't really moved from where he was standing yet either, and Nathan was unsure of what this storied 14 year old would purchase, if anything...

And with all that, Nathan deemed that it would be Shiva and Vincent who would likely be the most helpful on his journey, seeing as they both obviously had experience of one kind or another. The other two would have to prove their usefulness somehow, though that would likely be a long shot for them...

And then he heard Shiva talking about antidotes. And then he remembered that Ralts is part fairy type..."Yeah, how much for the antidotes, prof? $100 each? Alright, yeah, I'll take two. Can't have Ralts taking any more damage than necessary, after all..." And with that, he set down his last $200 as well, took two antidotes from the professor, and began following Vincent and Ventus out the door.

Ventus scratched his head, looking a bit bashful at the title thrown his way. "Now now, their is no need for such formality. I just recently completed my doctorate, so I am hardly deserving of such a title. Besides, all I just want to do is to be understand Pokémon; I hardly deserving prestige." He extended his hand and gripped Vincent's, giving him a firm, but strangely delicate handshake. "Just call me Ven. My friends do, and I would like to consider you a friend."

Ven then tilted his head at Vincent, gadging his mood. He frown a bit, before saying, "If you want to maintain some distance between us, though, that is fine. Not everyone is as sociable as me, so I can be a bit overbearing at time," He rubbed the back of his head, smile now back in place. Ven then crouched down to regard Winston, and pulled out a Poffin from his satchel. "There  there, there is nothing ashamed about having a good appetite! Eating hearty lets you work extra hard, so here." He placed the poffin in them, before standing back up and pulling a Pokeball from underneath his shirt.

"Since I've meet you Pokémon, its only polite to show you mine," Ven said, before tossing the Pokeball onto the ground. With a *Pop*, out came a small Togepi, which, upon getting a grasp on their surroundings, noticed Winston, and waddled over to them. It start to eagerly chitter at them, wanting to get to know them right away. "This is my Togepi Raphael. He's just hatched recently, so this little guy has been eager to great new faces, and learn new things. Say hi, Raphael," he said, looking expectingly at his Pokémon. "Togepi!" Raphael greeted, waving a small little hand at both Winston and Vincent, before waddling back over to Ven. Scooping them up, they cradled them into his arms, laughing happily all the while.

Ven, hearing someone approaching them, turned to face the newcomer, and found it to be Nathan and his Ralts. He looked a bit uncomfortable being he, as if he were mulling something over in his head, and his Pokémon looked quite concerned about his master. "Ah, gland you are joining us, Nathan! My names Ventus, but you can call me Ven. Now tell me, what ail you? You seemed perturbed by something..."

I've decided that Pokemon in this world don't say their names; they are going to be more like Pokemon Origins or their cries in the games.

Togepi's cry does sound a bit like his name anyway though.

"Fair enough, Doc... Ven." Vincent manages a hint of a smile towards Ventus.

Underfoot, Winston snuffled with curiosity, at the Togepi and the proffered poffin, gently nudging his leg to remind him he was still here.

"Ah... go make friends, you lug."

Glancing back at the professor, he raised an eyebrow, trying to ignore the smacking sounds of enthusiastically vigorous chewing emanating from near his feet. "Right. So, you want me to keep an eye out for the group. Fair enough. Apart from the Doc and the kid with the Ralts..." He adjusts his stick, flicking a tiny spot of rainwater off the tip of his shoes, polished to a mirror black sheen. "Nathan, I believe." He tips his head slightly by way of greeting.

"Since they all appear to have tasks for you, I take it they're here to collect their starters, I assume?"

Upon seeing the Togepi come out of the pokeball, Nathan was surprised.  Togepi is an incredibly rare pokemon, such that they didn't even appear in the surrounding area.  How the heck did this researcher in a sweater, slacks, and sandals get his hands on one of those?  Well, he guessed it wasn't too surprising, seeing as the professor seemed to have at least some respect for Ventus despite his motley attire and bouncy personality...Nathan glanced over to see Ralts had joined the Togepi in munching on the poffin that Winston was ignoring in favor of curiously eyeing the rare baby pokemon...all he could do in response to that was sigh...

Nathan turns to Ventus and replies sarcastically, "How observant of you, Ventus.  Considering I just got told my Ralts may or may not have been involved with a dubious organization doing experiments of questionable origin on pokemon and documenting the results before selling the methods to the general public, I would be at least a little perturbed, no?  Now, I don't know what you're doing here, but unless you're going to help me figure that mess out, I don't see too much of a reason to talk to you at length on the matter.  No, I'm over here to talk with Vincent, seeing as he's our escort on this trip, and I want to make sure I know that we can count on each other.  I don't wish to get involved with this 'Almanac' group if I don't have to, but if they did something to Ralts...well, let's just say they're not going to enjoy what's comin' to them the day we find them."

With that, Nathan turns to Vincent, mostly ignoring Ventus.  He keeps a steady eye on Ralts and Raphael though.

"Now, Vincent, I know you probably have concerns about me saying that, but I don't have any intentions of going after them right away.  Ralts doesn't even know Confusion yet, nor does he have any egg moves.  We'll have to get stronger first if a day such as that is going to come.  And for that, a journey is required, regardless of whether we end up taking down that organization ourselves or with the help of the local law enforcement.  One which you'll be escorting us on if I heard your orders correctly.  Regardless, we'll have the support of both you and Wilson while you're with us, yes?  I can't imagine an ex-police officer would dare let such injustice stand."

At this point, Ralts and Raphael have finished the poffin, and Ralts returns to Nathan's side.  Ralts moves slightly behind Nathan due to sensing his ire of Ventus, but is quite happy to see Raphael has wandered over to continue socializing with him, particularly since Nathan has no negative feelings concerning the Togepi itself.

Ventus eyebrows shot straight into the air at the sheer vitriol in young Nathan's tone. What more, his Ralts immedianlty reacted to his mood. Such a reaction means that they share an especially strong bond, judging by how quickly and pronouncedly stressed Ralts became. Oh dear. "Nathan, there is no need for such hostility for what was a simple inquiry. Call me nosey, but I couldn't help but be interested when I saw a connection between you and... Alamanc," Ventus hesitates as he says the name, a grimace shooting across his face in an instant. "They sounds like Team Plasma; a group of people with a seemly noble goal, only to try and achieve it using...dubious means." Ven deflates as he mention the Team Rocket organization, seemingly depressed by the topic. He didn't like thinking about them. Not after...

He sighs, clearly unhappy about how negative things have become. "Nathan, I only asked because I was worried. Call it a bad habit, but I try my best to understand what is wrong with someone, and help them through it. Its part of the reason why I became a sociologist to begin with. Perhaps I may have overstepped your boundries, but all I wanted and still want to do is figure out what is wrong and just help," Ventus said plaintively, beginning to look distraught about the ongoing situation. Raphael, noticing how unhappy his trainer was, waddled up to his legs, and started to jump up and down in front of him. Ventus , distracted by his Togepi, wanly smiled and picked him up and began to pet it soothely. "I'm alright, little one. Just worried, that is all." Distracted by Raphael, Ven began to calm down and regain his stability. Looking back to Nathan, he just simply said "Perhaps now is not the time for revelations, my friend. I'm sorry for inconveniencing you, Nathan." He then started to exit the lab.

Before that, though, he looked at the Ralts in the eyes, quickly shifted his view towards Nathan, and back to the young Psychic type. Knowing of Ralts empathetic capability, he tried to impress upon it the feelings of comfort, then quickly shifted his view towards Nathan, and back to the young Psychic type. Hoping that he got his message across, he walked outside and into the downpour, trying to get away from a greeting gone bad.

... ... ... Did that young man who was sitting next to her just spend all  of his money in one go?  Whoahw. Consider her impressed. Whether this was a smart or dumb decision, has yet to be found out. Not by her in the first place, though.

However, she noticed something as the glanced at her, as they held eye contact for barely a second. There was something fierly in his gaze. Was it determination? Like if wouldn't mind taking the risks and running headforward into danger if it would be for good or for something he believed in? Sure, she cannot know (yet?) what his goals and intentions are, but if he would keep such an intimidating attitude in battle, she could definitely learn a thing or two.

She watched him leaving. ... They're leaving one after another! If you don't want to be left behind, get yourself going! She focused on Prof. Mallorn again.

"Okay then, I'll take four additional Antidotes for now, that Full Heal of yours will be kept for emergencies. I might come back some time later for a Pokedex as well."

In exchange for mentioned items and the Pokeball containing her Startermon, she handed over the 400$, and stuffed everything into her bagpack. Thanking him again for taking the time to welcome new Trainers and the job information at the Day Care Center, she bid him farewell for now and lmade attempts to head over to where the others went so far. Ventus (or whatever his name was) was already in a conversation with who appeared to be a police officer, probably not in commission anymore. He was, along with Nathan, intelligent enough to stand a little back - even if that was just to prevent the Growlithe by his side from barking and biting to protect its owner. Either they knew that anyway or they learned this lesson by getting to know a Growlithe's fangs once before. Its species seems to loose this "openly aggressive" (that's what the bad tongues say) habit once they evolve into Arcanine; maybe because their impressive height, majestic apperance and overwhelming strenght were more than enough to say "Don't mess with me or my owner".

To think about that, Shiva has never ever hear about an egg having black spots. Green spots in all shades and size? Yes. No spots? Yes. But black spots...? Must be something very weird or very special... Ah, she had the feeling that this not-old-but-old, grumpy-but-possibly-caring-at-heart man would take good care of it - hopefully she happens to be around when it hatches.

Then, are the Professor and Ventus acquinted? What relationship do they share? She could not help but to be curious. He apperantly has a Doctor's Degree. In what? He didn't appeared to be much older than she was. She struggled to sort him into something. He didn't looked like a scientist, nor a medic, and least a teacher, and didn't behave like one would expect it from such people. Hmm... Maybe if she could stick with him for the time being, he would tell her. Plus, he seem the most sympathic to her. Whether his friendlyness was honest or a facade for something, she couldn't tell that just now.

From the window next to the lab's exit she could see that the sky was still dark. She couldn't tell whether it was still raining (as she headed to the lab, it luckily was not) or not, but some things were for sure - the air was moist and the streets wet. That unique scent that's only present after a rainfall would linger. Definintely a weather condition a Cottonee would NOT enjoy. Too bad, she would glady let it come out of its ball and see whether it would accept her as its master. "Master" - God, she will have to get used to that title.

She approached the other party members. Carefully.

"...You people don't look very pleased. Did I, well, miss something in the past five minutes?"

Speaking in a soft tone that would hopefully not cause any more distress, she now gave them a slightly confused look.

Speaking in a soft tone that would hopefully not cause any more distress, she now gave them a slightly confused look.

Nathan turned to see Shiva had come over.  Looking her over, she looked somewhat confused and cautious.  She looked like she didn't want to upset anyone there, and the confused look implied she didn't know what had just happened between him and Ventus.  Well, he'd have a quick talk with her in a moment.  What interested him more right now was what Ventus had just said in response to his cold reception...ah well, he'd talk with him later.  As much as Nathan had ignored Ventus after the initial responses, he had caught that he seemed to genuinely want to help.  In what way, he didn't know.  But not just any trainer could obtain a Togepi and keep it happy...and he did feel just a little sorry for the two of them as they walked out into the rain as well.  It couldn't be pleasant for either of them, seeing as Ventus was wearing sandals of all things and the Togepi was likely experiencing its first thunderstorm since hatching...

After that passing thought, he looks towards Shiva.  "Sorry if I seem a little distracted right now.  I assume you heard at least a little bit of what's going on with me and Ralts, yes?  Well, it's probably not a topic to discuss at length here anyways...you'll hear all about it later, I'm sure.  For now, let's get started on the right foot.  The name's Nathan." He extends a hand in greeting.  "Shiva, right?  I have to say, starting up a pokemon day care center isn't exactly the easiest job in the world.  You really have to know your stuff on almost every single pokemon that might show up at them.  If you do know your stuff when it comes to pokemon, I don't think I'd mind the company on this journey I'm about to go on.  And that's one of the reasons I'm going to accompany you to Ginger Town.  Along with Vincent I can assume, seeing as he's our escort.  Not sure about Ventus.  Nor Nate over there."

In fact, he did wonder what the heck Nate was doing...he still hadn't really done a whole lot since arriving.  Was he merely observing the situation as it unfolded?  Or was he just not paying much attention to it so far?  Whatever the case, he did notice that Nate had been staring at a particular pokeball on Mallorn's table for quite some time now...

As everyone was buying essentials Larry sat there watching the red and white pokeball and remembers his father screaming, GO! LARRY LEAVE! as a voltorb exploded and killed his father. he thinks that the same would happen to him if he becomes a trainer. Nate watched everyone get there pokemon everyone noticed Larry was siting there quite, and still Larry still hearing the screams in his head, then thought of his crush Rachel playing violin and settled down.

Larry got up and picked up the pokeball his hands shaking, sweat running down his neck then lets the pokemon out of the ball it was a oshowatt the oshowatt looks at Larry as Larry does the same, Larry looks at everyone else Nathan looked curious as if he knew what was going on, Shiva and Vetus were out side not knowing what was going on in side so Larry puts the oshowatts pokeball in his pocket and pats his head saying "you'll be called bubbles" and puts $1300 on the table and takes a pokedex and walks out the door
