[Game thread] Skull Ruins Pokerole
(02-13-2020, 08:30 PM)Lord Windos Wrote: Finally, whether or not Terra does Fight Achilles today, he would indeed join Nathan on his trip to Botanville after he would ask what else they were planning on doing today. He too would like to challenge the city’s Gym Leader to earn their badge, and he had some business of his own to do in one Cheshire education capitals.

Nathan has no problem with sharing his plans for the rest of the day with Terra.  "For starters, I've gotta figure out what moves I want to teach my pokemon before we head to Garlicburg, and where and how to teach them.  Move Tutors could be anywhere, after all."  (I also still have to teach the moves from our infinite TMs and HMs, but I'll address that after the Botanville Gym Battle)

"Also need to evolve that Seadra I caught in the Ruins, keep that promise I made to them to help them evolve.  Dragon Scales are easy enough to get at Cress City, thankfully.  Gotta ask Seadra if they're willing to help out tomorrow as well, make sure they'll be reliable.  I doubt they'll give me much trouble, but...well, Kingdra can be unpredictable sometimes.  They're our best shot at finding what we're looking for quickly, though, so we might just have to deal with it for a little while."

"After that...well, I'll have to go fulfill my promise to Keni, I guess, show him that rare pokemon he wanted to see.  I'll probably need to ask my parents if he's still hanging around Trillium, or gone somewhere else.  And...that's probably it for today as long as nothing urgent pops up.  Got a lot to talk about with my parents, too, but that's kinda going to be a given for awhile, I guess.  Too many stories to tell."  Both Nathan and Gallade chuckle at the thought.  Oh, how long Nathan spent avoiding telling his mother anything about his adventures, and now he just wants to tell them all about them...how times change...

Terra listens with characteristic stoic patience, his expression unmoving but not unreceptive (at least to a close friend like Nathan). Once they finish speaking, he takes his time to think about it all, before he shares his thoughts and his own plans for the rest of the day too.

"Hmm....need to teach partner more Moves too. For trip to Garliburg, quest for Mesprit, and....for the future. Already taught all of them (IE: The Loyal Ones) Alloy, but need to....seek out more Moves to teach them. Maybe....should go find Move Tutors? *Mumbles* But funds tied up in lab and future research...."

"*Looks surprised* You got a Seadra? Huh....*Nods* good catch. *Appears thoughtful for a moment* ....Ah! Remembered something: Ventus. He is....sorta a Dragon Tamer. Disobedient Pokemon Researcher too. Owns his own Kingdra too. If you need help with your Kingdra, he should be able to give you some. *Face scrunches up* ....I think. He's...busy, so....not sure if he could help you so much."

My, how loaded a descriptor does Terra use to describe his boss....

"Going to visit Keni? *Nods* Good. Will...see him later too. *Looks uncomfortable, rubbing back of his head* .....Bothered him too much today, so should not trouble him again so soon. *Shakes head* Have to see him later anyway. *Nods* Show him Angie, Arete, and Sari then."

When Nathan brings up his parents, the sagely monk's expression grows.....harder, then softens as he sees them and Gallade so happy to share their journey with them. For a moment it looks like he would just stay awkwardly silent, before he let out a low *Sigh* and look at them with a frown.

"....I need to talk with your parent too. Your father. Have.....words, for him. Important words."

Nathan does his best to be encouraging where Terra is uncertain.  "Don't stress about moves too much, alright?  Probably not going to be able to teach them all, after all.  If you do want to teach a few, though, Gym Leaders are probably your best bet for figuring out where Type specialists are, so long as the type you're asking about is related to the Gym's in some way."

"...yeah, I know Ventus has a similar affinity for Dragons to me.  I was there when he...well, got that knowledge.  Almost the same time that I did.  It's...not quite the same as my lineage, though.  Anyways, if I need his help for something, I can just ask him tomorrow.  He should meet us in Tumbleweed before we head to Garlicburg since he said he was interested in joining us."  Nathan frowns slightly as he remembers that point in the Mt. Sentry adventure, but he doesn't elaborate, and he quickly brushes it off and moves on to the next topic.

Terra saying he has important business with Marco prompts Nathan to cross his arms, and it also brings the slight frown back.  He thinks he has a pretty good idea of what Terra might want to discuss with the almost legendary trainer.  "Give him some time.  He's still recovering.  And he's still trying to help my mom figure out what they're gonna do now that Deoxys wrecked at least half of Trillium."

And it works, causing Terra to give Nathan a small smile. "....Okay. Want to teach and train all my partners, but....that will take long time. Better to focus on those that need help most. Or ones that would help us most. *Nods* Thank you for the advice, Nathan."

"....Thought you did too. Still told you, just in case. *Looks Thoughtful* Hm....maybe Tanuki or Angela could help with Kingdra then? They have own Dunseraph, so could have....tips and Knowledge on how to handle really Disobedient Dragons. Hm....also that other famous Dragon Tamer in Cheshire I have heard about. *Shakes head* Don't remember his name, though."

The brilliant historian's taciturn reaction to his intent to converse with their father earns them a rare narrowed eye look and sharp frown from the mountain of a man, which does a great job of bringing out his MAXIMUM natural Intimidation. It doesn't last long, thankfully, as his expression smooths out back to its regular stoic neutrality as he slowly nodded to them.

"Very well. I will wait. For now. But. ...But when I come to talk with him, you will not stop me again. Or be part of it. I will have words with him, and they will be said."

A simple but bold declaration from Terra, that carries the Steel Will of the man himself. He would not be shaken in his resolve on that.

"Probably thinking of Merle, member of the Elite 4 and crusher of so many trainers aspiring to reach the Hall of Fame, right?  Yeah, he's usually pretty busy, unfortunately.  The E4 don't usually have a lot of free time to chat with people.  So, yeah...wait, what?  Angela has a Dunseraph?  Where'd you hear that? And when did you learn about Tanuki's Dunseraph? That's supposed to be a secret from what she told me."  Nathan's genuinely surprised by that tidbit of info concerning Fairy type Gym Leaders having a pokemon that completely mismatches her usual type.  That's information that he definitely has not heard before.

Naturally, Nathan isn't phased by Terra's Intimidation, partially because a) he's kind of stubborn and b) the Sword protects him from those kinds of effects.  He uncrosses his arms when Terra agrees to not bug Marco right away.  "Be mindful of what you say to him and why when you do talk to him, in that case.  He made his decisions, and he clearly doesn't regret them.  He's had a long time to determine who he is and what he fights for, after all."  And Nathan leaves it at that.  Nothing else needs to be said on that matter.

(Uh...if I recall correctly, Nathan should know Tanuki has a Dunseraph, as he meet them when he decided to share ROCK SMASH with her. Or at least, that's what I recall. Don't think he knows about Angela's Dunseraph, though! Also, I know Terra's Intimidation wouldn't work on Nathan, but I pointed it out to highlight how seriously he was taking the whole thing about their talk with his dad, FYI)

"Hm.....*Shakes head* no, not him. Trainer I talk about.....is one that used a Dratini in Stair's Little Cup. Silver haired, wore bunch of jewlery. *Scratches head* I think. Heard about them little after that, but not much after I Ven gave me duty to guard and protect everyone."

Terra blinks at their friend's surprise at his (to him) casual comment, looking a bit caught off guard himself at their reaction.

"Uh....Tanuki told me she had one herself after my Gym Battle with her, and saw Angela ride one to meet up with me outside of Almanac Base by Cress's Cliff when you.....infiltrated them to rescue your Uncle and Kogeki. Didn't see Tanuki's , but Angela's looked well trained and care for."

The rugged wanderer is decidedly less taken aback at the brilliant historian's final words about their father, and doesn't react in any way to them. He just silently lets the conversation die, his frown lingering on his face for a few moments before its gone and his stoically expressionless as he ever was. Indeed, nothing else was said.
Wow, what a mouthful from the stoic block of a man!

"Oh!  You mean Anaster!  Well, from my understanding, he's just a rare pokemon collector, not necessarily a Dragon Tamer.  I have heard he's able to fully earn a pokemon's trust in a mere few weeks, though, and he also has one of those Gold Belts from the League, along with some other guys if I remember hearing Dagny correctly...honestly, I'd like to talk to Anaster myself one day so I can judge what kind of person he is first hand.  I missed my chance in the Safari Cup, so I'll have to just keep my eyes and ears open for now, I suppose..."

"...why would a Fairy specialist have a Dragon type?  Hmmm...was there anything particularly special about Angela's Dunseraph that you remember, Terra?  Call me curious."

"Ah! *Nods* Yes, him. Heard he was very good Trainer of Pokemon. Able to....easily bond with them, and know how to use their Strength well in battle. *Shakes head* Don't know anything about man himself, but he....knows what he is doing with Pokemon. *Beat* ....I think. If you can meet him, I would like to see him too. With or without you, but want to find out more about him. See how....skilled he is, in battle and not."

Again, Terra looks a surprised by what Nathan has to say, but this time it more due to a misunderstanding on his part.

"Angela is Fairy Trainer? Thought she was Dragon Tamer, after.....seeing her Dunseraph. *Shakes head* ....Need to learn more about her later. Don't want to mess up future Fight against her, and give her a bad one. *Beat* ....Ah, yes. Her Dunseraph was pink and yellow instead of blue, and it was sparkly. Think it was bigger than Angie too. *Shakes head* That's all I remember about it."

Now Nathan understands.  "Ah.  Shiny Dunseraph.  That explains it.  She also collects pink pokemon, not just Fairies.  In any case, she's also one of the toughest Gym Leaders in the region.  You could almost say she's addicted to training.  Make sure you're prepared when you seek her out."

"I will be sure to let you know." You exchange phone numbers with Achilles.

Botanville is a winding town built around a hill, with the university occupying the peak. It has many outdoor and semi-outdoor classrooms, including caves, pavilions, platforms, and campsites. It's well known that the university has many tunnels and secret passages in its ancient elaborate main building.

Another famous feature of Botanville is its hedge mazes. They run up one entire side of the hill - these are the gardens belonging to Telperion University, with its colossal tree at the center. There are other hedge mazes, and scions of the colossal tree, throughout Botanville. In the past, a famous Grass trainer named Coty planted them, laid out the town, and donated heavily to the university. Occasionally they host Pokemon tournaments in there, or Bug-catching contests.

Botanville is a town of cafes, coffee shops, bookstores, and Telperion-themed souvenirs. Sports are big here, some involving Pokemon and some not. Unlike Cress or Stair City, it is a balance of nature and technology and quaint nostalgia. It's a diverse place where all types of people and Pokemon are welcomed. In all your adventures, you haven't seen a whole lot of expats aside from Shiva/Heart/Terra, but this is the place where they all tend to end up!

The Gym is on campus, so students can come practice. It belongs to the descendant of the original architect, Mason. He welcomes a famous trainer such as yourself into the finest, most ornamented stone room - but you notice it has seemingly been rebuilt many times. In fact, Mason explains that it is modular, a bit like Tanuki's playground, and is designed to be involved in the combats and rebuilt every now and then.

Mason is a short, stocky man, with callused hands, neat clothing, and a tidy mustache. He has a pencil behind one ear and a stylus behind the other ear.

"I've heard about your exploits, of course. The dust cloud rolled over this city like a... well, you'll see. Nathan, one of my duties as Gym Leader is to research new Pokemon species, new forms, and new behaviors. These are all things my students want to study in their battles. I hope you're ready to do the same, and to tell me about the weird Pokemon you've seen in your adventures. Let me know when you're ready to challenge me."
