Psykan's artsy stuffs - Psykan - 12-25-2017

EDIT: These photos are kinda big.  If the thread loads slowly because of that, lemme know and I'll add spoiler tags as needed!

After a funny little occurrence in another thread, I decided to start my own art thread here.  For now, I'm just gonna post the drawing I'd stuck in said thread.

I have a bazillion prospective art interests and will be diving headfirst into everything quite soon; from drawing, photography, crafts, to string instruments; to sculpting, woodcrafts, metalworking, welding, jeweling; to digital art, digital music composition, coding, spriting, and game development.  Also adding culinary art, floral art and flower arrangement, gardening, and anything else that piques my interest to the list, along with new and possibly unprecedented art forms because experimentation is awesome.

Expect this thread to get pretty long.  All constructive criticsm is welcome and encouraged, as well as collab ideas--that's probably the best way for me to learn all these art forms!  Big Grin

...Ah, what the heck, I'll throw in some nature photos of mine, too~

That drawing reminds me of Dixit art. I love the abstract because of that game.

@Iron, your link doesn't work. ._.

Hmm, I'm not quite sure why, but at first thought your drawing reminds me on the surrealistic paintings Salvador Dali created. Which is good, because I like them. Nice work! And I especially enjoy that view down the valley on the fourth picture.

I wonder how crafting and floral art could be combined...

Might need to edit that URL tag, hahah. I'd never heard of Dixit before, honestly.

Thanks, Phantom!

For that abstract piece (and every other work I did), I only used 0.5mm and 0.7mm mechanical pencils, a click-stick eraser, and a paper towel for smudging and some other effects. I never cared for the idea of having a whole art studio's worth of supplies, and I honestly love taken a resourceful, minimal approach to everything. It's kinda cool to see just how far one can go with very little.

There's an awesome nature trail near where I live, and that's where I took that valley photo. There's also a park close by where I took the frozen pond photo. I did take photography courses back in 2011 or so, but auto-didacticism was always the best way for me to learn how to take good photos with my phone's camera (more resourcefulness, haha). I recently learned that the phone I bought here, a Huawei P10, has a "pro camera" mode, where you can fiddle with the aperture and ISO settings, along with lots of other things. I bought the phone mainly because it's really good for photos--it actually has two cameras that are used when taking a photo; one is for light-and-dark contrast and the other is for the color and details. The two cameras working in tandem make for some really good-quality photos considering it's a phone. Being able to take good photos in the moment is something I value a lot. Great for memories and sharing around, haha.

There are many different kinds of crafts, and floral art is a multi-faceted art form as well. I'm sure I could find more than one way to make them go together, and that in particular will be good for conveying messages regarding the necessity of a connection with nature and the planet. We'll see what happens!

RE: Psykan's artsy stuffs - PhantomUnderYourDesk - 12-26-2017

Thanks for fixing the url, Iron. Huh, I never heard of that game either, but after having read through the instructions it feels like a game one could play the whole night without it becoming boring if the particpants are up for it. Neat!~

Oh, that pond on the picture is frozen!? *takes another look* Now that you say it... That layer of ice under the sun surely has something.

True, auto-didactism is something great! It certainly desires...more effort and dedication than for example visiting a course/class, but on the other hand I feel that it's slightly more enjoyable to learn things on one's own in one's own tempo, and with the resources already on hand. (Today, there are more than enough resources or instructions available online shall there be a problem, so there's that) More freedom, and none's there to tell one 'how it shall be done' or 'how it's right', and one can develop own styles, ways and preferences. Hmm, actually almost everything I do, from drawing, sewing, Pokemon Breeding and so on is selfthought now that I think of it... The only things I'd personally appreciate a real course would likely be Digital Coloring and maybe Spriting as these feel like their own section of art and are so widespread in possibilities that it's overwhelming...

Aww, I'm looking forward to see any results of combining floral art and a selected form of crafting!~

RE: Psykan's artsy stuffs - Psykan - 12-31-2017

Just a bit of an update post (since I guess this will be my little space on the forum, haha).

I'm thinking about starting a consortium of artists in my community. It would basically be a periodic gathering of artists over various crafts and creative disciplines, both traditional and technical. So, musicians, game developers, painters, graphic designers, and so on. The idea would be for us to pitch and bounce around ideas about how we can use our creativity and skills to make the community a better place; this also entails working alongside people of many different disciplines and backgrounds in a collaborative manner (obviously, right?). Aside from this being a great way for me to be exposed to and build my skills in practically every art form for my own goals, it also falls into my own mission and vision of using art as a universal language to spread positive energy, messages, and influence to society and humanity at large.

The best part is that everyone involved would have an equal say, and a fair platform for their ideas to be heard and acknowledged. Otherwise it's not really "collaboration."

For now, I plan to limit the scope of the endeavour to the city I live in right now, but I'd love to extend it to the rest of Canada, and then to the world as a whole. While there are people who may not necessarily appreciate art in itself or art as a meas of conveying messages or spreading goodwill, pictures, melodies, and creative works as a whole do speak more loudly and clearly to humans overall than lengthy, droning lectures or speeches--especially when it comes to charity and benevolence.

RE: Psykan's artsy stuffs - PhantomUnderYourDesk - 01-03-2018

Arrrgh, just when I have actually already left for bed, I remembered that I haven not replied you on this yet... So quickly checking back in...

Quite honestly, I admire that idea of a consortium of artists of various crafts in your community. Okay, probably the fact that I never really met a person active in making art in any way plays a big role in this, as I embrace my introverson. The idea of not 'only' sitting together and hone one's own skill or even make first steps (and small senses of achievment!) in a new sector of art with the help of another person who may be experienced in the sector, but instead wanting to work on how to make the community better fot everyone feels kinda noble.

I'd be delighted over occassional updates/reports about projects, as well as more drawings/photos/content of own FanGame in general.

RE: Psykan's artsy stuffs - Psykan - 01-06-2018

Thanks, Phantom! Sadly, it'll be a little longer before I post anything art-related; in fact, I'm probably going to be homeless for a bit unless Couchsurfing comes through for me. Before any of the creative stuff can happen, I do need to find a long-term housing accommodation, and I'm hoping to find a place to move in on February 1 or possibly sooner. I already spent a few weeks at a homeless shelter when I arrived, but this is nothing compared to what I've already been through on my life journey. That journey is something I'd like to express through creativity, too. I probably mentioned it a bit already, but I've been through some pretty extreme circumstances, and for nearly all my life.

I'll post things here, but considering the scale of my mission and vision, I'll probably end up making a DeviantArt account for all this stuff.

RE: Psykan's artsy stuffs - PhantomUnderYourDesk - 01-06-2018

Yes, you mentioned these hard life circumstances before, and I have a ton of respect for what you've been through without even knowing the details. ._. It's just...amazing what such a thing can cause.

Good luck on finding a suitable home to stay in! Doesn't matter to me personally how long it might take until new art or anything is shared as I myself draw relatively slow (or so I feel) and I tend to do small breaks quite often. Or hang around online in the background, like now. If you ever make a dA-account, I'd be happy if you'd let me or even the whole Forum know!~ I've abandoned my account there several years ago by now due to some other users gave me and a friend there a, lets say hard time, so I'll probably only lurk there for a while. Or make a whole new start with a new account, maybe, sometime.

RE: Psykan's artsy stuffs - Psykan - 01-06-2018

Yeah, dA isn't exactly a friendly community a lot of times. I left back in early 2015 for the same reasons (and also because I didn't really have much to contribute in the way of artsy stuff). At some point I'd like to share my story, though I have no idea if there's anywhere on the forum that would be a good place for that.
