Daxter groans as he takes that in. Pokemon that explode when they're angry? In Thunder Forest? There were fucking Voltorb in here? He looks at the Grubbin and nods. "Go on, then. Stick with your friends. Power in numbers, and all that. The offer remains open so you can join us if you'd like. Stay safe, you hear me? I don't like the feeling of this place one bit."

He then leads the group through across the tree branch to the other tree warily as he looks around carefully.

He then leads the group through across the tree branch to the other tree warily as he looks around carefully.

As Daxter begins leading everyone closer to the trunk of the tree, Grubbin follows.

"Wait.  Scary pokemon ahead.  I go with you."

[attachment=1327]

It isn't long before the group is closer to the trunk of the tree, their slower pace affording them time to find careful footing and keep a watchful eye on their surroundings.

Daxter's Alert
2 Insight + 2 Survival + 1 Alert + 1* Forewarning
(5)(5)(1)(2)(6)(6*) 4 Successes

Voltorbs' Stealth
3 Dex + 1 Survival + 1 Stealth + 1 ???
(5)(3)(2)(3)(6)(1) 2 Successes

Daxter glances at the branches directly overhead as his group approaches the trunk of the tree, and while he doesn't see anything initially, he catches a glimpse of some leaves rustling in an odd way.  He stops his party from advancing any further just in time, as three Voltorb fall from the branches above onto the larger branch below, attempting to ambush the intruders!

They look particularly angry.  And...like they're made of wood?  They definitely don't look quite like any Voltorb Daxter remembers...

Voltorb Ambush Initiatives
Bunnelby: (5)+6 = 11
Dedenne: (3)+7 = 10
Grubbin: (5)+4 = 9
Voltorb A, B, and C: (3)+5 = 8
Daxter: (2)+5 = 7
Rowlet: (2)+4 = 6
Snom: (3)+3 = 6

Despite knowing the Voltorb were there, they still almost got the drop on the members of Team Night Wardens, but Bunnelby; Dedenne; and Grubbin are all quick to react to the angry spheres of explosive power dropping from the branches above!

The tree branch is a lot thicker on this tile since it's closer to the trunk of the tree, but it's still possible to slip and fall if one isn't careful with their footing.

Voltorb Ambush Round 1

Rain continues to fall, making the surroundings damp with rain water.

Since Platina has instructed everyone to move carefully, it's group Stealth check time!  If at least half of the group can pass a Stealth check, you can either ambush or sneak past the wild pokemon on this tile!  Pretty good trade off for moving more slowly if you can pull it off, right?  (As an aside, if this had been an Ambush like what just happened with Daxter's group, then it would have been an Alert check against the enemies' Stealth instead, and passing would prevent you from being Ambushed).

Wild Pokemon Alert:
(5)(3)(3)(2)(4)(1) 2 Successes

Platina's Stealth:
(6)(5)(1)(5)(5) 4 Successes (Pass!)

Kogeki's Stealth:
(6)(3)(1)(4) 2 Successes

Kee's Stealth:
(6)(4)(2)(3) 2 Successes

Keldeo's Stealth:
4 Dex + 2 Survival + 0 Stealth
(5)(4)(2)(6)(3)(1) 3 Successes (Pass!)

Emolga's Stealth:
3 Dex + 2 Survival + 0 Stealth
(5)(4)(1)(6)(2) 3 Successes (Pass!)

3/5 members passed (Success!)

As the group rounds the corner, they run into a group of wild pokemon, as Platina was expecting!  A Cubchoo, a Trubbish, a Mienfoo, and a Chandelure are all milling around the corridor of ice.  Thankfully, they don't seem to have noticed the party yet.

Emolga whispers.  "So, what's the plan?  Are we attacking them?"

"We could sneak past too.  But we might have to deal with them on the way back if we need to turn around."

Ponyta rolls his eyes.  "Riiiiiight.  We'll see how well that works out for you.  Well, go on.  Talk to the wild pokemon, see where it gets you."

Wild Pokemon Will

The Pupitar and Lunatone look at each other briefly, then at Karen and Rolycoly.  They hesitate for a moment, but they don't appear to be convinced either.

Ponyta isn't convinced either.  "Alright, it's not working.  Looks like we're doing this my way.  Blitzle, you focus on that Lunatone.  Mudbray, we're taking on Pupitar."

Dunes Rocks Initiatives
Ponyta: (5)+6 = 11
Blitzle: (4)+5 = 9
Lunatone: (5)+4 = 9
Mudbray: (5)+4 = 9

3 Dex + 2 Fight + 2 Brawl - 2 Actions = 5d6
(6)(4)(4)(3)(5)
3 Str + 2 Pow - 2 Def - NVE = 3d6 - 1

The moon pokemon, despite moving more sluggishly, manages to blindside the fire horse with a thrown rock.  "Gah!  Blitzle, I thought you were taking care of that Lunatone?!"

"Ack!  Sorry!  Just give me a moment!"

Meanwhile, Mudbray charges at Pupitar, her own hooves ready to deliver a one-two combo!

Mudbray dusts off her hooves.  "Alright, who's next?"

Rolycoly retaliates against Lunatone with a rock of his own!

4 + 2 Actions = 6d6
(5)(1)(3)(6)(2)(1)
(4)(2)(4) Lunatone takes 2 damage! 4/6 HP -1 Pain
Lunatone is smacked down!

Karen takes the opportunity to attack the moon pokemon now that it's struggling to stay up in the air.

Disarming Voice on Lunatone
5d6 + 2 Single Action Bonus = 7d6
(6)(5)(4)(2)(2)(2)(6)
(6)(4)(3) Lunatone takes 2 damage! 2/6 HP -2 Pain

With only one target left, Ponyta charges straight at them, cloaking himself in flames as he runs!

Flame Charge 2 on Lunatone
7 - 4 - 1 = 2
(5)(2)
6 - 2 - NVE = 4d6 - 1
(5)(5)(1)(5) Lunatone takes 2 damage and faints!
Ponyta's Dex increases by 1!

Karen and Rolycoly get 4 exp.

With both wild pokemon defeated, everyone's able to take a breather.  Ponyta doesn't seem to be particularly pleased with Blitzle's performance.

"What was that, Blitzle?  Seriously, you can't stop a simple Rock Throw?"

"Hey, I tried, okay?  I thought my Thunder Wave was going to be more effective than that."

Mudbray tries to mediate.

"Do you two really need to be fighting over this again?  We're a team, right?"

While Team Gallop is having their little squabble, Karen and Rolycoly have had some time to investigate the pile of rocks.  They find 2 Gold Bars and Rolycoly can have his fill of Delicious Rocks and optionally take 1 unit of them to go (both take up 1 inventory slot each).

Karen will grab the gold bars and let Rolycoly take a unit of Delicious Rocks for a bento.

Karen patiently waits for Team Gallop to finish bickering then approaches them once they are through. "Um, you guys done?" As she gets ready to go to the next room, she slips Team Gallop 1 of the two gold bars. "Figure it'd be fair if you got part of these spoils." (how magnanimous.)

RE: [Game Thread] Pokerole Mystery Dungeon: Primal Shadows - Dragonstrike - 09-21-2022

(After OOC discussions in the Meta Thread, it appears that Team OS is going to choose to Ambush the group of wild pokemon!  I'll just drop initiatives here so everyone can post their orders accordingly and strategize as appropriate.)

Glacier Group Initiatives
Keldeo: (5)+8 = 13
Cubchoo: (6)+6 = 12
Emolga: (3)+7 = 10
Mienfoo: (5)+5 = 10
Chandelure: (5)+4 = 9
Trubbish: (5)+4 = 9
Platina: (3)+6 = 9
Kogeki: (5)+3 = 8
Kee: (2)+5 = 7

Glacier Group Round 0

Team OS has got the drop on these wild pokemon!  They all get one action before the wild pokemon will be able to react.  Make it count!

Hail continues to fall.

The moment the ironclad adventurer's eyes land upon that.....thing, she experience an old, instinctive fright. That Pokemon was a [color=#e82a1f]Fire type. A powerful, Ghostly one at that, if it's dreading inspiring appearance as anything to go by. She very nearly had a fit before she cut herself off and growled out a hushed response dripping with vitriol and disbelief.

"What in the Dragon Gods name is a mighty spectral Fire Pokémon doing here of all places!? Cursed, cursed this whole Mission is, I say!"

Hearing Emolga's and Keldeo's chatter helped her regain a bit of her focus and temperament, and she immediately forcefully pointed at the Chandelure with a nearly Mean Look in her eys.

"We fight them. I will not suffer a threat like that Pokemon possibly becoming a ruinous problem to stalk us later. Everyone, unite in force and take down it down immediately. I'll be using a full force Metal Sound on it to disrupt it if it still looks battle ready, so brace yourselves!"

Orders: Ambush Time, with a Metal Sound onto Chandelure that will be boosted in Accuracy by a Will Point! If Keldeo and Emolga manage to KO it before her turn comes OR if it's on 2 HP or less, she'll just Peck it instead or on the Mienfoo! Lets bust one mean Ghost, mates!

Moves:

Metal Sound
Accuracy: Smart/Clever (1) + Fight (2) + Channel (0) + 2 = 5D6 Dice
Effect: Sound Move, - 2 S.Def to Target
Note: In the base games this can target Two Pokemon in doubles, but in the Corebook it can only target one.

Peck
Accuracy: DEX (3) + Fight (2) + Brawl (2) + 2 = 9D6 Dice!
Damage: STR (2) + 2 + STAB -  Base 2 Vitality/Defense = Approx. 3D6 Damage
Effect: None

Orders: Use Shadow Punch and Bite against Chandelure. If Chandelure faint already focus the attack Shadow Punch on Mienfoo.

Shadow Punch: Dex(2)+Fight(2)+Brawl(2)+2 =8D6
Damage: Power(2)+STR(2)+STAB(1)+SE(1)=5D6+1
Effect: Never Miss.

RE: [Game Thread] Pokerole Mystery Dungeon: Primal Shadows - no one - 09-23-2022

Daxter's eyes narrow as he studies the Voltorb. Wooden Voltorb? Were they... Grass types? Wait, no, they're in the Thunder Forest. Grass and Electric? If a Water-type Charmander could exist, why couldn't a Grass-type Voltorb? Either way, Grass/Electric was a bad combination for him to fight. He turns to Snom. "Listen, love. You're gonna be the lynchpin in this fight. Powder Snow on two of 'em, you hear me? And you, Rowlet, are gonna try and make sure that Snom is safe. Try using Peck to ward off any Voltorb that gets a little too close to her. If nothing goes for her, attack the same one I'm hitting. As for you, Bunnelby, your species likes digging around, right? Maybe a ground type move on them? And Dedenne... I've honestly got no idea what kinda moves you lot have so just surprise me. I'm gonna lock my jaws around the third one."

Round 1 Orders- Team
Snom- Powder Snow on Voltorb A and B
Rowlet- Clash with Peck on a Voltorb that attacks Snom, Peck on Voltorb C if nothing attacks Snom.

Round 1 Orders- Daxter
Ice Fang on Voltorb C
Acc: 2d6 Dex + 3d6 Fight + 1d6 Brawl + d6 Dog Collar - d6 Acc + 2d6 Single Action Bonus = 8d6
Dam: 2d6 Strength + 2d6 Power + 1 SE = 4d6 + 1
Extra: 2d6 Flinch, 2d6 Freeze

RE: [Game Thread] Pokerole Mystery Dungeon: Primal Shadows - PhantomUnderYourDesk - 09-23-2022

(in a low-pitched tone, almost whispering) "Hiiiiiisssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss......!!!!1!!!111!!"

...That was the instant reaction from Ziggy Kee the very moment his deep-red eyes spotted that cHAnDEluRE1! up ahead. It was more of an instinct, probably his inner Pokemon that suddenly became defensive and protective, hyper-vigilant and read to strike at the sole hint of provocation. And yes Kee also could not help but to become competitive about going against a surely strong wild Pokemon like that ghost as well as a 'Mon or his archenemy Fighting Type, he could very vividly feel how it itches him to give Chandelure and Mienfoo a decent swipe with his claws or a tough and deep bite.

What that firely spectre is doing at a place like the glacier the team's curently at is somewhat...beyond him, but to him that was secondary. Upper priority right now was that this ghost was, hands down, a massive threat to his friends, a threat that demanded full attention and quick dismantling before it dares to curse the current mission in a literal  way. This mission WAS already cursed thanks to the very electric squirrel they took along, on that point Kee definitely agreed to Platina, but if anything this only made him MORE attentive and protective towards everyone. Barely anything went well since they've started traversing through this glacier; from that nasty hail that at some point was payinful to be exposed to, over that pile of loot! being unreachable, to that big group of wild Pokemon up ahead. Oh well, he should have KNOWN that after he managed to have gotten such a lucky win at the lotterly, he has used up any of his luck for the day and fortuna won't be as benevolent towards him for a while.

Kee paused his showing-off-and-looking-more-dangerous-as-he-is to give Platina quick yet energetic nod about her intruction to fight these wild Pokemon immediately, his teeth and jagged jaw still fletched while he's following Chandelure's every movement with his staaaaare. Unfortunately though he was THAT focused on threatening and intimidating Chandelure and Mienfoo that it took him some moments of properly breath in for a loud-as-fuck snarl laucnhed directly at these two, causing everyonelse to act before he could; including Chandelure and Mienfoo themselves. Oh well, Kee still has to learn how to control his bad temper more properly and not have his rationality circuit when his inner primal senses spot something of interest.

Orders for this Round: Not loosing many words on Kee's side, he'll straight away go into fighting out of competitive feelings. He's even going so far to provoke that group of wild Pokemon (Mienfoo and Chandelure especially) to go after him via his threatening stance and expression, shouting and screaming their ears off at their mildest hint of aggression.

Accuracy Roll Single Action Snarl: 3 Dext + 2 Fight + 1 Channel - 1 Inaccuracy + 2 Single Action Bonus = 7d6
Target: Will hit two foes, Chandlure first and foremost + whoever is the most weakened by the time it's Kee's turn. If Chanlure is already down by then, target those foes that are the most weakened; if equal, go after those higher up the Init order.
Damage Roll: 2 Special + 2 power + STAB = 5d6 + SE on Chanlure and NVE on Mienfoo
Additional notes: Will autolower hit target's Special by 1.
