RE: [Meta Thread] Dragonstrike's Pokerole Test Game: Mount Coronet Mystery - Iron - 06-26-2019

A discussion I've heard before about mechanics:

Yeah, it's very important not to get too hung up on rules, because the story is way more important.
But it's also nice to have balanced options, because you should think about your character:

Would any character use Clash, ever, if it was strictly worse than Evasion? There would ideally be a pro and con to every action.
That's the lens through which you should attempt to balance things, once you get into it.

That's a big reason why I'm leaning towards introducing the chip damage advantage for Clash.

Oh goddie. Aspido can't use Harvest anymore. Are this not lovely?

*sigh* Time to return to black board of plans...

Luck Dice are unforgiving, particularly when you didn't even have enough dice for the action that ended up requiring one at the start of the Round.

No need to be bitter, mate. It's only for the rest of the battle, so don't fret!

That, and you've just about beaten your Encounter, so don't feel too put out because of one little set-back! That's just....well, overreacting a bit, really.

*Sound of Glass Breaking*

*Blink Blink*

.....Now I know why Spirit's Encounter was at it's difficulty level. A well trained Gyarados is one of the worst opponents to face, doubly so if it has backup to cover its scaly arse!

Fortunately, you still have your entire team to use against them, so don't give up JUST yet! Fight until the bitter end, Spiritmon!!!

Also fortunately, that Luxio is almost KOed, so it's gonna be a 2v1 pretty quickly here.

When I was making the encounter, I had to think about what was both common and incredibly difficult to handle. Gyarados is one of the first things that came to mind, as Magikarp are one of the most common living things in the pokemon world, period.

Of course, not every character that's got 'common' stuff and high difficulty levels is going to have a Gyarados on their team. That'd just be silly!

*Blinking a few times*
Well...at least it's not a Nuclear one... despite the fact last time I had a Cursed Arm.
Good Lord...Not gonna complain since I can still use all my team. But hell, talking about be Overkill.

I did say this was gonna be harder than a typical encounter would be.  Most encounters in Snowpoint can't reach this level of difficulty Wink
