Thats okay. The first form of Gyarados still cool. Water/Flying still a good defensive type. But what about a possible alternative Mega Evolution? You think thats gonna happen in the games?

RE: [Meta thread] Lord Windos' PokeRole Adventure : Celadon City Vandels - Lord Windos - 08-06-2018

Little to no possibility at this point, in my opinion. It seems that with the advent of Z-Crystals, the age of Mega Evolution is over, and even if it were to make a resurgence its unlikely they would give double Megas to anything other than Legendaries, Mythics, and famous flagship Pokémon like Pikachu. For waterever reason, Game Freak doesn't what Gyarados to be part Dragon type seemingly, so all we can do is either accept it, refuse to buy and play their games on principle, or gather a truly hellish amount of people all over the internet and formally protest the lack of a Dragon typing to the raging beast. Out of all those possibilities....well, I know which one most would pick.

Well, I not even buy his games, only fangames. And thats why we have the fangames: If Gamefreak dont want to make new Mega Evolutions, then the fans gonna make. Uranium its survivor. They try to takedown and survive. And there is other causes to make ruckus about it.

Also, changing a bit the topic, how it was you guys?

RE: [Meta thread] Lord Windos' PokeRole Adventure : Celadon City Vandels - Lord Windos - 08-06-2018

How was what? Uranium? I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it, and had a short bit of breeder's fever before it waned away, so I say that I had a net positive experience.

Spirit, you should never ever ever pay a single bit for a Pokemon FanGame please. o.o; They are always free to play, if we fans even dare to make a bit of cash this way it's guaranteed that Nintendo will notice and enfore its rights. This played a role why Uranium was taken down, I would be mad as well if someone earned some money with an original concept that belongs to me actually.

Without Nintendo and GameFreak we wouldn't have them in first place either, which is why I'm having quite a respect for them.

Today (6th August) 's Uranium's second anniversary by the way, happy birthday!~

!

Damnit! I wrote wrong there now that I look! Well, I never buy the fangames to be honest. I should have wrote, I never buy his games, only the fangames. Sorry the confusion.

Yeah I respect a bit them because they bring to life those franchise. They poorly threat the same fans who only make fangames and this is the worse. Like the new about Nintendo takedown a site who make hackrooms because they have use game made from Nintendo (even if them do not gain any money). And even process them with billions of dollars.

They are stupid and abuse this thing about Copryright.

And we know what that means: new holiday themed MG!  This year's anniversary MG is rather...interesting, I have to say.  For several reasons.  I won't spoil what it is here, though.  (but for reference if you were wondering, it does have a shiny form)

RE: [Meta thread] Lord Windos' PokeRole Adventure : Celadon City Vandels - Dragonstrike - 08-06-2018

In all fairness, if Nintendo and Game Freak didn't defend their copyrights, they could easily be losing money because of that.  It's the big projects that are in a grey copyright area and that catch their attention that they end up shutting down.  Uranium was one, Prism was one (they were partially riding off of hype for Go/SM as I recall).  AM2R was another (and Samus Returns was also just around the corner when AM2R was released).

I personally don't begrudge Nintendo and Game Freak for defending their copyrights.  At the end of the day, they're a business, and it also shouldn't be a surprise that they want to make sure they're getting the proper credit for their hard work. It's entirely within their rights to do so, even if it does seem a little pushy on (semi-rare) ocassions.

That's just my two cents on the matter.

That sounds more like 'respect them little to not at all' than 'a bit', please keep it civil.

They're not stupid. They have their rights. As a traditional artist who creates Fanart as well I value and respect copyright a lot, maybe it's hard to really comprehend if one doesn't have to worry about art thieves and the like. I know nothing about that takedown of a hackrom site, so I prefer to not say anything about that.

This MetaThread may be wrong place to get into this kind of discussion though.

@Spiritmon , @Dragonstrike , @PhantomUnderYourDesk

I fully approve of this discussion concerning Nintendo's practice of defending their copyright , and all opinions there of, including and especially the critical ones. I see no problem with my Meta Thread being a host for this conversation, as for the time being my Game is on stall, and its a nice way to kill the time between updates on Iron's and my own game. Under no circumstances do I not want people getting worked up over it, but I also do not want to see others try to outright stifle arguments. Clear?

As for my own opinions on the matter, I have already stated them on the forums, but I will reiterate them now: Nintendo is well within their rights to enforce copyright as they have done so, but at the same time that does not leave them immune to criticism for it, nor for how draconian and/or harshly they do so at times, especially for projects such as Uranium that were clearly non-profit tributes to their inspiration games. Additionally, while Nintendo is certainly a business, and a business' end goal is to make as much profits as profitable, how they go about it and treat their consumer/fanbase while doing so/tangently is another matter entirely. I do not think I need to elaborate on the practices of AAA publishers such as EA, Ubisort, Activision-Blizzard, Warner Brother etc. , and how informed gamers/consumer advocates/non-industry affiliated media/journalistic outfits perceive them, to show how the argument of making profit is not entirely a bastion of defense.

For the matter of credit being given where its due, if a Game Company makes a good enough video game and put the proper amount of media coverage to ensure it gets its 15 minutes in the spotlight, it will get all the attention and praise it deserves, and the sales that correspond to it. A fangame tribute that is both inferior in advancements and totally free should not in anyway severely and/or negatively impact sales and attention of Game Company's game.....unless the product they are market is clearly inferior to the tribute in one manner or in multiple. In that case....well, its as the old saying goes: you reap what you sow.
