RE: [Meta thread] Lord Windos' PokeRole Adventure : Celadon City Vandels - Dragonstrike - 11-16-2018

Some other weird bits of trivia about LGPE I remember off the top of my head:

- Outrage is a TM.  No, I'm not joking. Some other tutor moves like Drill Run also made the cut, weirdly (there's only 60 TMs, though)

- Beedrill can now learn Outrage (but only in LGPE for the time being, however).  And not just via TM, but also through leveling. Yeah, I'm really not joking.

- A-Marowak is even more screwed out of learning its only physical Ghost move.  Shadow Bone isn't even in LGPE.  I wish I was joking...

- In a similar vein, A-Exeggutor can't learn Dragon Hammer, Aurora Veil doesn't exist for A-Ninetales and A-Sandslash...(and as extra salt in the wound, there's no weather of any kind in the game, either)

- Out of all the pokemon you can ride in LGPE, Starmie and Persian are probably some of the weirder ones.  Yeah.  Starmie.

- Pokeballs of all varieties are half their normal cost since there's such a big emphasis on catching stuff in this game.

- Solar Beam and Sky Attack got buffed to 200 base power in an attempt to make them more appealing to use since Z-crystals, weather conditions, and Power Herbs don't exist.

- Giga Drain isn't in the game, but Absorb got buffed to 40 power and Mega Drain to 75 to help make up for it (oh, and Mega Drain is a TM again for the first time since Gen 1, along with other weird ones such as Self-Destruct, Pay Day, and Teleport.  Feels weird, man...)

- In-game trades can be done infinitely because they're the only way to get Alolan forms without Pokemon Go interaction (Meltan line is still exclusive to Go interactions, though)

- Teleport is now actually somewhat useful in a trainer battle.  It's now a -6 priority, non-attacking move that switches the user out.  Still no U-turn imo, but it will all but guarantee that you have the switch advantage with that kind of effect.  And since it's accessible as a TM again in LGPE, that means bulkier stuff like Slowbro could potentially use it to their advantage.

- Stealth Rock is the only entry hazard in the game.  Rapid Spin and Defog don't exist, however (really, Pokemon Company?  REALLY?!  Why?!?!?!?)

And that's all just stuff I'm remembering off the top of my head from some of the stuff I read before getting the game.  There's a lot of other weird little trivia in the game.  Again, don't really want to analyze it too deeply atm, but it was some weird stuff I remembered that I thought was worth sharing.

RE: [Meta thread] Lord Windos' PokeRole Adventure : Celadon City Vandels - Lord Windos - 11-16-2018

......I literally just went "What." to almost every single one of the things you listed. ESPECIALLY the Alolans getting shafted and Stealth Rocks all but being a permanent Hazard once set. Dear Arceas, what were they thinking with those kind decisions? That they regretted re-vitalizing those Kanto Pokemon and to make Hazards all that more horrible and obnoxious?

On the other hand, the TM Additions are nice (If a bit funky), and Teleport essentially becoming the perfect Slowturn options for all Psychic types/Pokemon that can learn it is just plain amazing. Wonder if they're going to apply that buff to it in other mainstream games that are not so casual/Like LGPE.....

RE: [Meta thread] Lord Windos' PokeRole Adventure : Celadon City Vandels - Dragonstrike - 11-16-2018

There's also some other weird moveset changes in LGPE.  I don't remember all of them off the top of my head, though.  I do know some pokemon can learn what are normally tutor moves at level 1, however (Move Relearner is at the League again...).  Pidgeot can learn Heat Wave with the Relearner, for example (however, Pidgeot also lost Hurricane in LGPE, and is now dependant on Air Slash...but considering it also can't use No Guard in LGPE...).

Flareon is still as reliably unreliable as ever, though.

I think riding Starmie is exclusive to Surfing on it, but still...Starmie?  I mean, it's cool, but...why Starmie?

The Alolans are still decent enough to consider using for the most part, tbh...it's just that Ninetales and Sandslash lost their main niche of Hail abuse, and so are stuck trying to find another one. A-Raichu is fine for the most part since Surge Surfer was never essential for it. A-Marowak, meanwhile...is just screwed. No physical Ghost STAB. No Thick Club. No Rock Head Flare Blitze abuse. No electric immunity from Lightning Rod. It's a bad time to be a Marowak, especially if you're from a tropical island. A-Raticate and A-Persian don't have the Abilities that help make them a decent pick, but the same goes for everything else in LGPE, so...oh, and I don't think A-Exeggutor misses its signature move at all. IIRC, it never uses it in competitive anyways since it primarily uses special sets. And A-Muk? Gets off almost scott free. It's didn't really lose much of anything besides some moves since its Ability didn't have a huge impact on how it played, so I imagine it's still great, especially when it's likely able to act as a reliable check at worst for most of the rampaging Psychic types in Kanto's meta if you don't consider Alolan forms at all (considering the only Steel types are Magnemites, Melmetals, and A-Sandslash and the only Dark types are all Alolans, Psychic types are still very much a force to be reckoned with...).

Oh yes, one more thing I just remembered about LGPE's convenience changes: you can also rename your pokemon at any time (still has to have the same trainer OT, obviously).  Name Rater isn't a thing at all in LGPE!  Huzzah!

I'm definitely hoping some of the more well received changes will carry over to Gen 8.  I could get behind Teleport having a niche, Beedrill still being able to use Outrage, and nicknames being able to be changed at any time you like.

Solar Beam and Sky Attack should probably be returned to their normal power when ways to fire off their powerful strikes without needing to charge are back in the game in Gen 8, though.  (mainly looking at Sunny Day for Solar Beam, obviously)

All in all, if I can put LGPE in a neat little package, tie it shut with a bow, and label it as something, it's certainly 'the original Kanto adventure reimagined'.  I think that's what they were going for, and I think they've nailed it.  Casual experience or no, it's a pleasant trip through Kanto which certainly offers a...fresh take on how you prepare for the competitive scene if you get into it.  (though I'm not sure Smogon is going to add a battle format specifically for LGPE's weird, very exclusive meta). Or at least, from what I've experienced and read about it so far, that's the impression I've gotten.

For the test game, I'm leaning more towards doing it before Skull Ruins is finished just so I can get some mechanics solidified for the main game.  Stuff like testing some of the stat splits that will be applied, some dungeon and/or town mechanics...stuff like that.  However, carrying over characters to the main campaign from the test is optional for the purpose of being flexible (and also for plot reasons).  Heck, if anyone wanted to participate in the test and use an already existing character concept just for the purpose of the test, I could probably allow that too.

The main campaign is definitely not going to start until Skull Ruins is over.

In any case, you're more than welcome to join both the test and the main game if you so wish, Mika.

Honestly, I never thought I'd see something like what the Rockets in this campaign use in a (technically) mainline pokemon game...

I was considering doing that in Skull Ruins lategame, but settled on the PTCs instead. Also wanted to do it in the fangame I was planning (which I abandoned long ago).

Ooh, now that's an interesting tidbit of trivia.  It'd definitely still be cool to see Bill upgrade them into that eventually, but I do think the PTCs were a very creative idea regardless.

Guys.  Reading some more stuff about LGPE just blew my mind.

Mina shows up in the game as a cameo.

And it's also now canon in the games that she has an A-Ninetales thanks to LGPE.

You also meet her on the port where the S.S. Anne docks. (The circumstances of why she's there differ vastly though, obviously)

Wow.

Just...wow.

I'm definitely calling alternate universe shenanigans now.

For some reason, the forums didnt leave any info about new posts in Celadon game and meta thread. Damn internet.

Anyway, lets see what in Arial list to take...6 of the potions, 4 Super Potions, 2 Full Heal, 1 Med Xs 3 Revives, 1 Max Revive, and Heal Bell or Reflesh (Since Psycho Shift gonna be more useful for Reiner)

You sure that's all you want to take?  There's still a lot more items in that pile.
