[Competitive] Archilles - Cataclyptic - 09-28-2016 Archilles ![]() HP: 75 AT: 90 DF: 80 --> 95 (+15) SA: 90 --> 135 (+45) SD: 80 --> 90 (+10) SP: 125 --> 155 (+30) Overview Everyones second favorite fire starter ever makes a huge tidal wave of lava in the competitive scene at Pokemon Uranium. Blessed with high speed and special attack in its mega form, it is the second fastest pokemon in the game. This thing is so fast it outspeeds modest Nucleon, another top tier threat. It's mega has the ever coveted Drought ability in the latest update, giving water types something else to fear and boosting its fire STABS to ridiculous levels. Offensive teams benefit from Drought and the ability to outspeed and KO relevant threats. Unfortunately, its base form suffers from mediocre attacking stats and 4x weakness to water. Both forms have a somewhat limited movepool, making sweeper sets harder. Nonetheless, Archilles is still a top tier pokemon and you would be wise to not underestimate it. Raptor Rider @ Focus Sash/ Life OrbFlame Body Jolly ( 252 Atk, 252 Spe , 4HP) - Stealth Rock - Earthquake - Knock Off - Flare Blitz / Flame Impact Taking advantage of Archilles' high base speed, one can use it as a lead and anti-lead all in one. Use Stealth Rocks to make hazards on the first turn or just use a coverage move to KO, or least blow holes in your opponent's lead Pokemon. In base form, all of Archilles' best moves are physical. Earthquake is obligitory considering most everything in the game is weak to it, Knock off can remove a valuable item from your opponent, and Flare Blitz can do good damage even with its low attack. Flame Impact can help in certain situations, like killing Scarfed Nucleon but in general Flare Blitz will do more damage consistently. This is not meant to be a sweeper set, rather a setup set for your other pokemon. As such, Focus Sash is preferable if you want this to be your dedicated lead, but Life Orb can work if you plan on switching this in and out and want more power. Volcano @ ArchillesiteFlame Body --> Drought Mild/ Hasty (252 Spe, 252 Spa, 4 At) - Fire Blast - Earth Power - Ancientpower / Stone Edge - Flare Blitz With its mega stone equipped, Archilles becomes a near unstoppable force. Outspeeding everything except Inflagetah naturally, and possessing a 135 base special attack makes a sweeper set ideal for this beast. Fire Blast and Earth Power are dual STAB moves that each deal great damage- especially Fire Blast under drought conditions. Unfortunately, Archilles bad movepool comes into play, so we have to either rely on the moderately weak Ancientpower or Stone Edge that comes off of its rather low attack. Either rock attack takes most things that its STAB's cannot do, such as Dunseraph or Pajay. The last slot is left to Flare Blitz, which even though it comes off the weaker attack stat still gets a 2.25 boost in power thanks to STAB and Drought, allowing Archilles to hit from the physical side in case a special wall comes up. Mild nature is preferred in order to get as much special attack as possible, but Hasty can be used in order to outspeed certain threats and scarf pokemon if that's what your team needs. Playing against Archilles Water types are the bane of normal form Archilles, they can take its moves and dish out a water attack to KO the raptor. On the mega side it is harder to kill, but Mega Syrentide stands as a good counter as most of Archilles moves take a 3HKO at best while it can easily OHKO in return with Surf or Hydro Pump. Gyarados is another good check, as it resists Archilles' STABS but has to fear Stone Edge or Ancientpower if not at full health. Due to having weak defenses for both normal and mega, normal STAB moves can do some good damage to the raptor and wear it down, especially if Stealth Rock is up on the field. Team Options As stated previously, Archilles will love you if you can take out the water types that plague it so much. Metalynx can accomplish the job, with its grass and steel typing and access to Swords Dance and Leaf Blade. Most grass types in general have good synergy with archilles, especially if they have Chlorpyll to take advantage of Drought conditions like Coatlith. A Stealth Rock setter like Actan or Garaewl can help Archilles OHKO Pokemon much easier. Additionally, since it can be tough to switch Archilles in, a slow U turner like Seikamater can help get Archilles on the field to sweep. ================================================= Comments are suggestions are always welcome! RE: Archilles - poweroftibarn - 09-28-2016 If you're goal is to be an anti-lead, then Taunt is necessary, and unfortunately, Archilles doesn't get Taunt. IMO you're better off using other SR setters and just running an all-out attacker. Additionally, I feel that you left out Archilles' strongest set: Belly Drum. Sub + Belly Drum put Archilles into Blaze and Salac Berry range, allowing it to sweep the entire enemy team unopposed with Flare Impact and EQ. Agree with the lead thing, just felt like I should put at least one normal archilles set in. Also, we have salac berry in the game!? Didn't think we did do the belly drum set was nixed... But that changes things if you're right. It's not in yet, but we can probably get the team to add in the Salac cycle RE: Archilles - Dragonstrike - 09-28-2016 Though this means Archilles has been covered now, I think I'll still do a guide on Archilles after I do Seikamater. I feel having only two sets doesn't do this raptor justice. Still some nice sets, just not what I had in mind for it, tbh. RE: Archilles - Lord Windos - 09-28-2016 While dupicat guides make me cringe a bit, they can shed insight more into a pokemon potential that was not covered at first. Especially after some time has past, and new ideas can form based on changes in the game/meta. Looking forward to anything you make, though, Dragonstrike! I know I'm adding a belly drum set anyway once I get a computer. |
