LF Advanced Breeding Advice - CooltrainerHerb - 10-11-2016 Hey folks, I've been breeding some pokes, gettin' ready for some online battles. One spot I've been having difficulty with is getting a 6-IV poke from two 5-IV pokes. Now, normally this isn't a problem because 5-IV pkmn are often fine. I mean, why would Nucleon need a 31 in Atk, right? When I do want a 6-IV pkmn however, I usually end up in the following situation: After breeding for the egg moves, ability, and nature I want on my pokemon, I start breeding for IV's. Whenever the offspring has more perfect IV's than the parent, I use the offspring for breeding. Eventually I end up with two 5-IV pkmn. However, since they are coming from the same breeding pool, they end up with the same imperfect IV. According to this breeding calculator, I have a .5% chance of getting a 6-IV pkmn when both 5-IV parents lack the same stat. When the parents' imperfect IV is on different stats, the chance for a perfect 'mon doubles to a little over 1%. Now, I realize the difference between .5% and 1% isn't that huge. When you're hatching 5 eggs at a time though, and the odds are 1 out of 192 is perfect or 1 out of 96 is perfect, respectively, it usually saves alotta time. My question is this: Is there an easy way to avoid this situation? Do I need to be more vigilant during the breeding process and keep an eye out for more diverse perfect IV spreads? Or, do I just need to be patient and wait for that 1 out of 192 eggs? Thanks much! RE: LF Advanced Breeding Advice - PhantomUnderYourDesk - 10-11-2016 Ah, I see your point. But since I personaly am fine with 5 IV, I'm no help, sorry for that... Looking forward to see helpful replys here though, not only because you got me interested in that point of 6IV-breeding now... RE: LF Advanced Breeding Advice - MonkeyLord83 - 10-11-2016 Well, one way would be breeding for coverage. As in breeding for 6IVs Males in all egg group so that you can chain breed and worry less abt other things. As egg moves now pass from both parents, M and F, you can just find a 6IVs M in the same group with no compatible egg move while having the F with everything else you aim for. And replace the F as you breed better ones. In addition, I'm not the best to give advice as I'm still learning and experimenting myself, but you can check out the Breeders' discord via the link in my signature, there are many other breeders who are more capable of helping... First though, I need to get those 6-IV pokes in each egg group, which comes back to my original question The 6-IV Jerbolta from Mystery Gift has helped out massively with everything with the field and fairy group. I guess I should start branching out from egg group to egg group from there. For example: Jerbolta (Field/Fairy eggroups), -> Winotinger (Fairy/Human-like eggroups), -> Beliaddon (Human-like egggroup), -> etc. The biggest problem with this approach however is the need to consistently get better female pokes, which is difficult when you're dealing with species that have a low chance of getting a female, such as Flager. Not sure off the top of my head how this works with genderless pokemon. Or 4 IV even. Heck, let's even say 3. Because 2 or less, and your odds of breeding 5 IV versions of those genderless mons are abysmally low, or even impossible.(10-11-2016, 10:10 AM)MonkeyLord83 Wrote: Well, one way would be breeding for coverage. Nuh uh, your original question is how to avoid breeding with 2 5IVs with the same imperfect. And the answer to that is breeding with 6IVs you already got. This is not advance knowledge at all, even Youko's guide for beginner breeders could tell you that... AND she also explained genderless breeding. You claiming to know the basics but failing to understand those simple concepts kinda makes me think you didn't even bother reading Youko's guide... Genderless & Breedable pkmn include: Astronite Chainite Gargryph Gellin Hazma Neopunk/Parseopunk S51 Tracton Anytime you want to add an extra perfect IV, you're betting that the Destiny Knot selects the perfect IV's you already have AND that one extra random IV is a 31. The Destiny Knot chooses 5 out of the 12 combined IV's that the parents have. When the right IV's are selected, you have a 1 out of 32 chance to get an additional perfect IV. I do not know enough math to figure out the matrices for the chances for this to happen when moving from 4 IV's to 5 IV's, but I can see from here that the chances are very small. EDIT: Fiddling around with an IV calculator: At best, you're looking at 1 out of 75 eggs. At worst, you're looking at 1 out of 786 eggs. This is when you are indiscriminately looking for any additional perfect IV. Trying to get particular IV's makes your chances even worse. I'd say Tracton, Chainite, and Astronite are the ones most worth breeding from the group atm, with Tracton being highest on the list for obvious reasons.(10-11-2016, 08:43 PM)CooltrainerHerb Wrote:This is why I prefer not to breed genderless pokemon.
