Did anyone else feel Maria was under-utilized? - VictoryHoshi - 11-18-2016 I know this was a problem for the first couple of gym leaders in Uranium but I feel like Maria was the most under-utilized in the game. She was the past champion until she stepped down from the position. I feel like being the past champion and her being stronger than all the other gym leaders; Maria should have had a bigger role in Uranium's plot or at least have a sub-quest with her. Becoming a champion is an incredible feat in most pokemon game's lore but in this game the whole past champion almost feels like a throwaway line. I feel like her role was very underwhelming in the game. Do you agree or disagree with her role being underutilized? RE: Did anyone else feel Maria was under-utilized? - EeveeBailey - 11-18-2016 Come to think of it... yes. I always found it a little odd that a former Champion would be the first Gym Leader instead of closer to the last -- if she was good enough to be the Champion, then shouldn't she be ranked a little higher? In all honestly, it seems like all of the first three Gym Leaders -- Maria, Davern, and Cali -- could have had good potential for broader plot involvement or backstories. Maria at least had some backstory; Davern and Cali both could have been pretty much any other Gym Leader from any other region. By the time you start getting into the Nuclear Threat story, you all but forget about them (or at least, I did). But then from Gym 4 on, all the Leaders have some sort of "extra" involvement in the game: Sheldon... Tiko... Rosalind... Vaeryn... And Hinata and Kaito... Perhaps there would be room to involve Maria, Davern, and Cali more plot-wise into future updates. Cali, for instance, might make a good fit to show up somewhere somehow in Angelure Town, since she favors Water-types and beach-themed Pokemon. Maybe even link her in to the three ocean legendaries somehow?
RE: Did anyone else feel Maria was under-utilized? - Spiritmon - 11-18-2016 Well i force to agree. Since she "was" the Champion before us she would be a greater chalenge, to be at least the last gym, or at least before the end. She offers a greater challenge in the championist when you have the chance to face her. And believe me, her team its quite something, including her Mega. And yeah, i agree with Eeevee, it would be cool to see Cali in Angelure Town. Well technically if we go by Pokemon Origins she not really the first gym leader but just the first gym leader you face. I felt Maria was underutilized but Davern and Cali had nothing going for them at all. I honestly forgot Davern until I fought him in the championship match. Cali would be nice for Angelure town as it could be her hometown but since it was Hinata and Katio that sent you the letter to check it out I feel like they will get more fleshed out. It would be nice if Cali was connected to the legendaries and maybe Maria could have been the agent friend of Cameron which is the real reason why she stepped down. I have no clue on how to make Davern more important besides redoing parts of the story to include him with Acton or Lanthan since he is an ore miner I believe. Maybe if they add Heatran into the game he could lead you to it? (11-18-2016, 02:53 PM)Spiritmon Wrote: Well i force to agree. Maybe she could give you a surfboard item in Angelure town as a replacement for surf since she is a surfer makes more sense than the item builder giving it to you. Also as Eeevee stated maybe lead to the legends? RE: Did anyone else feel Maria was under-utilized? - EeveeBailey - 11-18-2016 @VictoryHoshi, I actually did mean the first Gym Leader you challenge, not that she was Tandor's very first Gym Leader. It seemed like it would make more sense that, being the former Champion, she'd be one of the last ones you faced. Also, I didn't realize that Hinata and Kaito were the ones that sent you to Angelure. I haven't gotten to that point in-game yet -- I just knew that Angelure is supposed to exist but doesn't yet. RE: Did anyone else feel Maria was under-utilized? - VictoryHoshi - 11-18-2016 @EeveeBailey Well they don't really send you there. They simply send you a letter saying there is trouble there and they need your help. Sorry about the spoiler.. Rosalina could be implemented into the crying child subquest once it gets finished for more fleshing out I guess. And I think I got a bigger end-game spoiler elsewhere than you just did, so... no biggie!
RE: Did anyone else feel Maria was under-utilized? - Iron - 11-19-2016 In a realistic Pokemon world, you would be able to face the eight (or more) gym leaders in any order you liked, and levels would not be so strict. You could have stronger Pokemon and weaker Pokemon, you could have well-trained or new Pokemon, skilled and unskilled trainers, and those would all make a huge difference in the outcome of a fight, but you wouldn't have a nice even predictable 5 level jump between gym leaders. RE: Did anyone else feel Maria was under-utilized? - Spiritmon - 11-22-2016 @Iroh But i think Gym Leaders should offer a challenge too. After all they are the Wall before the Elite Four and the Champion. If the trainers couldnt defeat the Gym Leaders, how they suposed to chalenge the Elite Four, and the Champion itself. |
