RE: [Meta Thread] Lord Windos' PokeRole Adventure 2: The Wild Lands - Lord Windos - 12-31-2023 Okaaay, time to answer some questions real quickly~ Phantom: The Score, once calculated, will be known to you. Can't very well make it lower (or higher, you mad person!) if you don't have the critical piece of info during PC Creation! Iron: I'll be using the Character Sheet I made for Dragonstrike to use in his campaign yonks ago; he's a link you can use to get a copy! - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1DEgZF4agaxvB9o_GCzAhVjCZ2iNXuMpy76kv0JbcnJs/edit#gid=0 (Probably will move this to a Resources post later...) Dragonstrike and Spirit: It has been roughly 40 - 50 years since the Deoxys Catastrophe ; long enough for a few generations to go by, populatiosn to grow, opinions of culture to develop and become set in stone, etc.. I was going to save this detail for later, but I might as well tell you know/make it explicit: This campaign follows an AU of Skull Ruins. Events that happened in OUR version of the campaign might not necessarily happen the same way in WLs' version, or even at all, while several things happened that are responsible for the PokeWorld being in a much more.....volatile position. The biggest and most obvious example is of the Scimitars - in Iron's campaign they were mostly self interested villians that still wanted to 'help' save Cheshire; in WLs, they carried over much the same attitude....but they were actually ended up more/justified RIGHT in their beliefs and way they handled they actions for the most part, along with actually pulling off more feats and Events that DID help preserve Cheshire during that Time Period and ended up saving it. They're 'Ends Justifying The Means' policy and general Anti-Heroic + Anti-Villianous behavior basically made them People Non Granta in Cheshire, however, forcing them to flee or face persecution. Tech and Magic-wise they were a LOT more developed and capable too, and that has only grown more so since the years have gone on since 'The Deoxys Crisis' and their establishment within Sutalor.... The general overview of this will be provided later, or if someone ACTUALLY wants to play as one! RE: [Meta Thread] Lord Windos' PokeRole Adventure 2: The Wild Lands - Lord Windos - 12-31-2023 (12-31-2023, 10:48 AM)no one Wrote: So I think I'm leaning towards the "Native" background for my character, just had a whole sleuth of questions for you if that's okay. Oh boy, my favorite type of post: one I can dig into too! 1) Yeap, so long as that Pokemon fall within what 'counts' as available National Pokemon (Being a 'Mon sourced from Jhoto, Alola, Tandor, Unova, Paldea). Charizard is sorta stretching things by my rules, since it's a Kanto Mon, but since Jhoto and Kanto are interconnected so much I could let someone have it - they'd get a + 1 Fortune Cost attached to the drago, however, since getting another Region's starter is most unusual indeed.... 2) Also yeap! More specifically, Version Deltas that are found in the Main Games are fair game for Pokemon selection, while custom Deltas are on the table if one can create a sufficiently compelling Backstory for them. Do note that having TOO many Deltamons on your Team WILL raise Fortune, however - those Mons are very abnormal by their nature! 3) Yes they are, though getting one with Sutalor would be hard since they're not National Mons; Sinnoh in my AU has managed to preserve it's Variant Species thanks to the the Diamond, Pearl, and Amber Clans, though they are quite choosy who gets their Clan's sacred Pokemon... 4) Yes they are, though keep in mind the more OUT there they are, the greater Fortune I give them and perhaps other stuff I'll give them to 'balance' them out! 5) Yes! Mega Evos are easy to implement in my campaign using either my version of it (Gives + 1 to all Attributes to Pokemon and Surprises! thereof) or Dragonstrikes' (Custom BOOSTs!). Mega Frosslass exists as an example that happened in my first campaign! 6) Yes! Dragonstrike actually was the first person to find this sort of 'exploit' by taking the Sneasil he got for his Character Selection in CCV and giving it its Evo Item as a Held Item to get a Weavile MUCH earlier than intended! No Fortune costs attached to this sort of thing too - go wild! Stone Evo = Use ANY Item to trigger a Evolution , Trade Evo = Use Trade +/- a Trade Item to trigger Evo 7) Oh boy yes! You can even put Restricted 'Mons and the Malefic Monstrum on your Wishlist, among Items, Item concepts, TMs, meeting specific people/Mons, etc.. Do note that if you end up putting it ON the list that means I get more free reign to unleash it on the whole party, and if you end up picking a Malefic Monstrum that is going to end up public knowledge to prepare everyone else for potential Bad Times ® . 8) Different Traits, both cosmetic AND mechanical, be it Simple Surprises, access to different Moves, or in more extreme cases a Pokemon being a Variant of the default standard! That Delta Charizard you mentioned, for example, could be a product of Breeding and the Lands of Sutalor shaping their Charmander into a new divergent subspecies! 9) Hmm...for now, I'll say that for the TM Move that a Pokemon in question, they would need to spend 20 XP + the Lowest Possible Level that the Move can be naturally learnt. For example, if the lowest Level (outside of Lv 1 Moves) Flamethrower could be learnt was 20, then a Pokemon could learn Flamethrower for 40 XP. More or less XP costs can be incurred based on Type and geneology stuff (Grass types learning Fire Moves is a stretch, for example, but one that had grown up in a volcanic environment/has 'spiciness' breeded into it might have more leeway to doing so). Moves learnt this way function as Surprises! , and too many of them will raise the Fortune of a Pokemon for being uniquely talents. 10) Magic is sorta blackboxed until you guys actually enter the campaign and learn more about it/get caught up in major mojo, but I will say that the Lepia have their own system of Magic they've developed from the broader systems - The Asmhu'Eltawn , which is broadly focused on Survival, Detection/Divination/Visions, Communion/Trade with Nature, Pokemon, and Ancestors, Cooexistence/Coodevelopment with the Natural World, Spirit/Daemon (Not Evil!) Magicks, and Truth/Belief/Mystery , and each tribe has Elemental, regional, and historical variations to their take on it. the Ashmut use various elixers, rituals, and Rods of Mysticism they make to direct and guide these forces or invite them in, similar to what Earth Power Shamens in Iron's campaign does + a bit of how Scimitar does it . Which is big part of the reason why they don't like Scims - they think their Systems of Magic and the philosophies behind it are blasphemous and FAR too controlling. 11) Tenatively yes - multi-racial people exist IRL, so your character could have a Native Mom and a Outsider Dad to have a Native/Outsider Background. One Background will always more be more strongly favored in character creation, however, and you'll be taking on extra Fortune costs depending on what Hybrid Background you're trying to cook up.... Note: Professions like Breeding or Cooking don't count as Background Options - only the stuff I listed out does! 12) Yes, though you'll have to pick one before I reveal to you the details of them - or really any detailed stuff and Lore about The Lepia, since that will be part of the discovery process for you guys during the campaign. I'll give you Hints and a Small Summary of what each Tribe is 'specialized' in if you are indecisive about taking a blind plunge, however. 13) I do! I even have it already made up ..... but I need to actually convert it to an Online Format. Or make a new version for Computers - need some time here on that! For now, here's the 'Raw Version of the Map - do forgive my art skills! ![]() ![]() I don't have the Towns Labeled directly on the Map, but I DO know where everything is supposed to go. I'll make a List and try to give you a rough idea of where each place is later -got work to do in a bit, and need to prepare for THAT. For now, know that Sutalor is divided into two Parts: East and West. Size of Routes are not to scale - the Routes between places can take Weeks or even MONTHS to traverse on foot, and hold stuff that is not readily visible on the overworld map.... Details will come in about 4-5 hours when I get off and done writing, so don’t wait around on me now and get some rest! RE: [Meta Thread] Lord Windos' PokeRole Adventure 2: The Wild Lands - Iron - 01-01-2024 "MOST Pokemon use their PC's Stat and Skill Scores for their Rolls, but must supply their own Moves, Will, and Specialties; they must also provide and level either their VIT or INS (whichever is higher)" What does this bolded part mean? RE: [Meta Thread] Lord Windos' PokeRole Adventure 2: The Wild Lands - Lord Windos - 01-01-2024 (01-01-2024, 01:44 PM)Iron Wrote: "MOST Pokemon use their PC's Stat and Skill Scores for their Rolls, but must supply their own Moves, Will, and Specialties; they must also provide and level either their VIT or INS (whichever is higher)" Ah, that part refers to a Pokemon’s Base Attribe and Ranges found in the scorebook . EX : Pikachu has Base 3 VIT and Base 5 INS , and can ( if Wild ) reach a max VIT of 5 and and INS of 7. Regarding the rule, whichever Attribute is higher ( or has the higher Stat Cap) as found in the Corebook / Stats given by DM , that Pokémon must use their own XP to level it and the use their Current Score for Rolls and HP Calcs instead of just using the Trainer’s. EX 2: In the previous EX , Pikachu would add + 5 HP from their INT , must Level their own INT , and uses their own INT scores for Rolls. RE: [Meta Thread] Lord Windos' PokeRole Adventure 2: The Wild Lands - Iron - 01-01-2024 Okay, so in short, a Pokemon's defensive attribute is broken off from that of the trainer, whose attributes determine everything else. And you find that attribute in their dex entry and level it separately. RE: [Meta Thread] Lord Windos' PokeRole Adventure 2: The Wild Lands - Iron - 01-01-2024 My biggest thing now is that the XP between the strong mons and the weak mons is weirdly skewed. Like I wanna do the Tier 2 option with a 300XP pokemon and 2 0XP pokemon, but you're kinda hard pressed to find a way to spend 300xp, while the 0xp mons are just using Tackle lmao. And the Tier 1 spread is even crazier, 800XP vs 50. And those options are intrinsically tied to the length of the Pokemon in feet. I think I understand the rest of the rules. RE: [Meta Thread] Lord Windos' PokeRole Adventure 2: The Wild Lands - Lord Windos - 01-01-2024 (01-01-2024, 03:50 PM)Iron Wrote: Okay, so in short, a Pokemon's defensive attribute is broken off from that of the trainer, whose attributes determine everything else. And you find that attribute in their dex entry and level it separately. Main Defensive Attribute - VIT covers Phys Defense, and INS covers Sp. Defense. Both Stats increase HP when Leveled (+1) . The intent of this change was to completely prevent Pokémon with High Defense Base Stats and Cap from getting completely gimped by their Trainer, but also still allowing a Trainer to shore up what would be a weaker Stat for their Mons. Flavor wise, a Trainer’s … well, training and know how brings out the best of what would be a Defensive weak point, while the Mon covers what they’re naturally best at. . A Pokemon’s Special Stat also has to be Leveled independent of a Trainer, since Humans don’t start with the SPE unlocked. Even when Humans do get it unlocked (if Ever) , their Active Pokémon does the contributing to their SPE Stat. EX : 2 Active Pokémon with 2 SPE each would give a +4 bonus to their humie. Be warned about them channeling TOO much arcane power, though, ‘cause that tends to have MESSY results for all but the most obscenely skilled or talented. The Power Tier are baselines at heart - there is always room to negotiate the details of Mechanical/Item allotment . The Length Aspect is intional, sinceBIIIG Pokémon is one of the cornerstone feature of how PoneRole expresses them. Got to stay true to the spirit of things, right? RE: [Meta Thread] Lord Windos' PokeRole Adventure 2: The Wild Lands - Iron - 01-01-2024 Alrighty, thanks for clarifying that! So you need to keep track of both defensive attributes, the resultant HP gain, and also Special Attack. I've never played with a trainer-mon split, as you know, even though the original rules have them entirely split. Your ruling on SPE -> Trainer sounds very Scimitar-like! I'll ask to negotiate XP spread once I take a look at what moves are available for my mon, but I will probably request to spread that out a lot more so my wee Pokemon aren't gimped. |
