Done. Decided to keep the last move to be Bulk Up.

RE: [Meta Thread] Pokerole Mystery Dungeon: Primal Shadows - Spiritmon - 12-04-2023

Hey people. Good morning. I wanted to ask something to the people who played the people who play the currently game of pokemon: You thoughts in the currently art style of the Pokemon of Gen 8 and 9? Wanted to ask this because we have a player who make art here and the others play too so I wanted to hear your honest opinions.

Also, another question, this time a bit more in ground in what we play here. Its been years since we been playing the Pokerole system. I think it is a good system, but it does have some flaws. But I wanted to hear about the players who play such system with me for such long time.

Also, a little question @Dragonstrike and @Lord Windos : Do you guys use some kind of app when you make Pokemon who doesnt exist in the pokerole pokedex? I want to try create something new.

Nope, or at least I don't. I always just started with a rough idea of what 'Mon I wanted to make, and then quickly built them off from there (or take my time with the more important ones). You could always take a blank copy's of Dragonstrike's and mine's Character Sheet template and use that as a starting point for making custom 'Mons, though that'll require a lot of manual input on your part.

On the subject on PokeRole Mons not covered in the books - Dragonstrike has alluded to the fact that he bases the Base Attributes of Mons on their actual Game Base Stats, using them as a range to determine if they have a 1-5 in STR/DEX/etc . HP can be eyeballed based on Size and Length and using what the designers came up with 'official' 'Mons in the Coreboos (though beware SnakeMons stats, for they be very inflated in the health department), but generally a 3-Stage Evo will have 3/4/5 Base HP as they progress through their Evos, while 2 of Singlle stages flux between those numbers unless they're particular Large or Special.

The official art of the newest mons is okay I suppose.  I wouldn't say anything about it stands out in particular though.  The art direction in the games is usually what I pay more attention to.  And while the environments in the games still could use some work (and higher powered hardware potentially), the models for the pokemon in Gen 9 look fantastic.  They have actual texture, reflective surfaces, and the animations are actually rather dynamic and varied both in battle and out of it.  They look and feel like actual living creatures, and it's a joy to actually pay attention to all the little details, like a Pachirisu climbing a tree or a Zangoose extending its claws to prepare for battle.

Pokerole definitely has some flaws despite being a very solid foundation.  Their attempts to fix some of those flaws in 2.0 (which I've played a fair bit of in No One's Shattered Earth campaign) didn't always hit the mark either, but there were some notable changes that made the game flow a little better in theory.  I think it's a good system, but it definitely still needs some work.  I definitely want to be keeping an eye on it as they continue to add more pokemon to the rulebooks and iterate on the rules to make something unique, fair, and fun.

I don't have a particular app I use to create custom pokemon, no.  There's definitely a lot of eyeballing involved, but base stats make for a great reference when determining what a Pokemon's approximate stat ranges should be.  There are absolutely patterns for how the devs determined those stat values.  When I don't have raw numbers though, it's a good idea to think about what I want the pokemon to be capable of and what it needs to accomplish that, especially when looked at relative to what the players and already existing pokemon in the campaign can do.

And done!  Good job everyone, you made it through the Landorus fight!  So, did you catch that the entire fight was a reversed version of the battles against Tornadus and Thundurus? Wink

Oh snap, I need to read the Thread ASAP then! Happy to know we won, though, and that my snooping for details actually paid off big time!

Yeah, I noticed, but I figured I keep quiet and let everyone come up with their own conclusions on the way things were going. Would be poor of me to spoil any surprises, no?

EDIT - Well shit, Platina didn't manage to do much, but then again I expected that to be the case since that PD Barrier looked extra robust. Still, had to try anyway, and it was funny to see her trip like that! Her receiving the Sky Plate in some manner, though? Didn't expect that at al. Even though I doubt she understands the true significance of the Item, I bet she can tell it's highly important and sacred, so she'll treat it as such!

Thanks mate! That was indeed a very big and difficult fight. And I did notice. And it was a pretty cool way too! And thankfully, we were able to surpass such big challenge!

Nah, you did pretty good too. Each attack was necessary to wear down the HP defenses of our enemy. So dont diminish your efforts mate! Myself did not do very much in the last rounds.

Although it was a cool thing Kogeki last attack was capable the last attack to destroy the barrier. So human weapons are capable to hit barries? Interesting. Thats a information we can use in future battles against Legendary Pokemon with shields like these ones we face.

Now it comes down to where to spend that sweet experience. I had 4 of xp before. Plus the new 30 I now have 34.

*Looking at char sheet*

Hmm...there a few paths I could go with such sweet XP:

1 - Use 20 XP to increase my HP to 3 and maximize my health, going from 5 to 6 total Health. Not a bad health. I think this could make Kogeki one of the most tank in the group in terms of HP. The left 14 XP could be used to increase either increase Brawl or Weapon to 3, making more easier to land his physical moves, or use more sword skills (not to mentioned increase the dice accuracy of Bulk Up).

2 - Save some XP for later to learn Shadow Bone. I still lack in more interesting Ghost type moves. Unless we find Shadow Claw, I kinda stuck to Shadow Punch. It is still a cool move, but right now I still a mono ghost Riolu.

3 - Use the XP to increase my Survival from 1 to 2. And use the leftlovers to increase Alert from 1 to 2. Or maybe be more wild: Increase Survival from 1 to 3, and then use the leftlovers to increase alert from 1 to 2. That could help to increase my initiative since my Dex is already very good. Not to mentioned increase Kogeki more perpective instincts.

Hmmm....decisions, decisions...

Edit: Looking back in the few battles, I think I very tempt to lean to the Survival/Alert route. Sometimes I wished I was able to have a better initiative in the some battles that happened. After all, Kogeki say he is the "fastest" ninja of the sand. Need to work to make that true, so when we meet Axel, I show him who is the fastest Pokemon: Either the Aura Ninja or the Fire Thief.
