Stuck in Anthell, can't progress.

In the first room of Anthell, theres a trainer named scientist mohammed that blocks off the path to the rest of route 10. Now i think what was supposed to happen is that he was supposed to spot me, walk up to me and clear the path in the process, and after beating him go to the rest of route 10. But i actually talked to him to begin the fight rather than having him spot and walk to me. Now he cant move. Is there anyway to go past him with him still blocking the way, or do i need to restart the game?
