Ventus got what he desired out of the private meeting: a chance to bond and get to know Nathan a bit better. He opened up about some of his problems to get a better read on the boy, taking his advice into consideration, before letting him dominate the upcoming conversations, answering his question in a way to come off as a well learn, well mannered, and perfectly sincere type of guy. He geniuely wants to be friend with him and help him out with his problems (For he knows Nathan has problems, no matter how well hidden they are), but he figures the only way to get past that icy front is just to gradually thaw it out with repeated interactions. Ventus is a people person, after all, so he wants to be buddies with just about everyone.

And yes, from Ventus' knowledge, its even harder for Nathan to train a Fairy/Psychic type. You'll have to have him ask more details about that, as Ven didn't think of the fact that Ralts was Psychic and Fairy.
