Hmmm...well, I'm not surprised Ventus reacted like that. Though I AM surprised he immediately assumed the old man is some sort of spellcaster, since the book specifically states that supernatural abilities are something only very, very few humans are capable of, if any, and most people trying to make it appear like they have such powers just have a pokemon's assistance in maintaining the illusion.
Then again, this also gives Nathan a better look at why Ventus might be...overreacting, shall we say. From Nathan's point of view, that's what it primarily looks like. I can already see the argument between the two of them coming to a head when they reach Ginger Town...at least Nathan's still being cautious though, even if it's not for all the same reasons Ventus is. Encountering an old man in the middle of a swamp where nobody should be? Yeah, that's strange. A little too strange.
