River Rat Round 1
This room is shaped like a big wheel with four quarters making up the battlefield: two sand and two water, at diagonal opposites. Dividing each quadrant from the others is a thin (5') strip of ice. Around the outer edge is a walking space for the trainers to prowl.
"Dewgong, I think Signal Beam might be your only attack to get through. Like we practiced, slip from the water across the ice into the other water."
Dewgong does so, and a ray of shimmering light comes flying from Dewgong's open mouth. It looks like a faint Aurora Beam at first, but then you realize that a chittering pulse of echolocation is contained within the beam.
Signal Beam
Accuracy: 2 Dex + 1 Fight + 1 Canalize = 4 dice
(6)(1)(3)(4) The Signal Beam connects!
Dmg: 2 Str + 3 power -2 vitality = 3 dice
(3)(5)(1) Theo takes 1 damage
Chance to confuse: (2) Nope
Leer
You don't add Brawl to damage, but since your Brawl is still 0 your numbers are correct there.
Acc: (3)(1)(5)
Dewgong's defense drops!
River Rat Round 2
"Dewgong, cancel out that Leer with a Growl."
Growl
(5)(2)(6)
Pawniard now deals 1 less damage dice
Big mistake (that the GM didn't notice until everything else was typed up.) Pawniard's Defiant ability is activated. +2 Strength to Theo.
Faint Attack
Accuracy: (5)(2)(6)
Dmg: 6 dice, +2 Defiant, -1/+1 from buffs, -2 vitality = 6 dice. Valder's Pokemon know how to hit hard!!
(5)(4)(5)(5)(6)(1) Daaang. Dewgong takes 5 damage. It still has 2 health left, but since that's more than half its life, it will operate at a -2 pain penalty!
River Rat Round 3
"Hmmm... This type is so great at defense! Hey, I have it - keep him off balance with a Headbutt. If you can knock him into the water, that would be great!"
Headbutt
Acc: 2 dex +1 Fight + 3 brawl -2 pain = 4 dice
(4)(4)(2)(5)
Dmg: 3 dice, -1 dmg typing
(3)(3)(6) 0 damage.
Flinch chance: (4)(2)(3) Dewgong doesn't quite manage to knock Pawniard into the water, but it's a close thing. He activates Metal Claw to carve a toehold in the ice.
Then he attacks with it!
Metal Claw
Acc: (1)(1)(2) Too bad! But it was worth not falling in the water, to use the less accurate attack.
River Rat Round 4
"Ok, try Signal Beam, maybe we can harm it enough to hinder it! Then it will be easier to sink!"
Signal Beam
Acc: (3)(5)
Dmg: (4)(6)(3) Theo takes 2 damage. He's now at -2 pain.
Confuse: (3)
One solid hit will do it, so Faint Attack is the right move! Pokemon and Trainer agree!
Faint Attack
3 dice, -2 pain = 1 dice, but it never misses
(1) Not even on a 1.
Dmg: a zillion
(3)(1)(4)(3)(6)(4) Dewgong faints.
"What a brawler! Oh, I'd love to have me a Pawniard. I mean, I couldn't use it in this gym, but that's really cool! Want to trade it for my Dewgong? Or Spheal? Spheal is a pretty rare Pokemon in Creshire. Or Sneasel, how about that? Then you'd still have a Dark type."
Valder gets $300 for winning the battle. Pawniard gains 4XP and Valder gains 2Xp! Good job.
