[Meta thread] Iron's PokeRole Adventure: The Skull Ruins
So, about Pokemon safety:

Pokemon battling is by nature a risky endeavour. A good trainer knows when to stop, for sure.

Most trainer's Pokemon eat largely Pokemon food, and they can be perfectly healthy doing this as we've discussed.

There is some bias against predatory or otherwise scary Pokemon (Dark, Ghost, etc) but many trainers have learned to trust in their own Pokemon to defend them. Usually they will give you the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.

A trainer allowing his Pokemon to eat Pokemon, as we've discussed, is seen by almost everyone as barbaric. It's not illegal, though, except in preserves or if the other Pokemon belongs to someone. The general attitude is that once a Pokemon is defeated, you leave it alone in case someone else wants to enjoy it. Many believe that even a scary Pokemon encounter is something of a blessing rather than a curse. So there's a stigma against purposely slaying especially rarer wild Pokemon.

Others are more ruthless, of course, because it takes all kinds to make a world.

So, it's fine for Ventus to believe this in character, but being horrified by a Pokemon eating Pokemon is not a knee-jerk reaction or an overreaction. It might be the sign of a more ruthless trainer (Which in this case is 100% accurate!)

Then there's more biases. Pokemon based on vertebrates (Hoothoot) often get more sympathy than a Pokemon based on an invertebrate (Spinarak). This is something Ventus would probably be more interested in, as a sociologist, if he wasn't so proud of his massive Arbok. There will definitely be lots of bias against that Pokemon - after all, it's a Team Rocket classic, and it really does have a tendency toward disobedience. (and it really is somewhat outside Ventus' control - but Ventus would do well to keep this fact a secret).
