Nathan specifically stated to keep Ventus in view of the battle, so don't worry about that.  He's just trying to keep that Scyther away from Ventus, currently.

Also, I know Ventus is probably panicking as much as Nathan is right now, but that Scyther has a will score of 9.  Even that net ball is going to be shaky at best this early in the fight.

Then Ventus will have no complaints. The researcher isn't panicing so much as going into 'dangerous mode', like how he was like during the Flowers Incident and the Wizard Did It Incident. If Scyther Plans to target him, he's going to show no mercy to it. Think PTSD, rather than blind fear.

This isn't the first time Ventus has been attacked by a feral Pokémon, so he knew what to expect from fighting Scyther. The damage still hurts, though! Even if he didn't have a chance to react at all *Grumble Grumble*
