Yeah, I don't know why the writers decided to make such drastic changes to Kirlia's evolution method. Gardevoir can be male after all, and there's nothing wrong with keeping the Dawn Stone (book lists a shiny stone for both of kirlia's evos, not a dawn stone) since Froslass still uses it.

And on the point of Froslass, I don't get why they made those changes to Kirlia but didn't do the same for Snorunt, which follows pretty much the same evolution pattern as Kirlia...

Anyways, I'd prefer sticking with Kirlia's original evolution method into Gallade. No reason to fix it if it's not broken.
