I still think that Mallorn is both capable and clever/ resourceful to restrain and study the being. Ventus is going to say as much, and strongly hint that the best idea besides killing the damn thing.

The other catch is that Mallorn, being a businessman primarily, might not be overly interested in an entirely new subspecies of pokemon...which might only worsen matters.

Wait, why WOULDNT Mallorn be interest?! It's a brand new sub species of Houndour! His corporate researchers and scientist would clammer for the opportunity to study the being, if not try to breed it and sell them at a premium. Ventus could always ship it off to Unova to the dream researcher if all else fails, as she would Also LOVE to have such a specimen.
