After that lonnnng wait, the doors to the Gym's battle room open on their own. You walk in and find yourself on another floating boardwalk, dark waters lapping through the slats. The boardwalks seem quite sturdy, at least...

Four chandeliers are floating in midair. Two are black. Two are silver. They cast eerie shadows throughout the room, half-illuminating malevolent faces and ambiguous designs carved in the fine wooden walls, and in the two thick pillars near the center of the battle area.

Chuckles is resting at the far wall, leaning on a podium. He's a tall, gaunt man, but his arms are knotted with wiry muscles and he looks very alert for a recovering invalid. He's dressed in nice clothing of dark colors, though the fabric seems to shift between the near-black shades, giving the illusion that various parts of his body have merged with the darkness behind him.

"Welcome, challengers: Nathan, Ventus. You have already been apprised of my rules. If you have any questions, the time to ask them is now. Otherwise, I welcome you to place your allotted items on the silver chandeliers." His voice is smooth, not at all raspy or low as you might have expected given the character of his town, his gym, and his type.
