There's no way to get around Destiny Bond's effects once it's been used, except by not fainting the target. If I had thought to give a conditional order to not faint Gengar if it used Destiny Bond (which I should have accounted for, to be fair, since it's a 50 exp move for Gengar and Phantom Force is 64 exp for Banette...), then Porygon2 could have attacked Banette instead, or used Defense Curl or Sharpen. Basically any other order I had given if I had accounted for Destiny Bond...*sigh*...darn it...
Establishing the 1 HP rule beforehand in battles where it could be applied is definitely really important...
