I also cannot estimate Kyuu's reaction towards the dog, since it's GM's discretion. If he instead of being scared and repulsive towards the Houndour but, dunno, eager to fight (not a Pokemon Battle, but figuratively) to protect himself and Master who saved him from the dogs in the first place, it'd surely help to feel better and get to some degree used to Orthros faster.

Well, having more than just Scratch to defend himself and Shiva with would certainly help with that, I'm sure.  Plus, there'd only be one dog as opposed to two, so that could also help in that regard.
