Starmie using Psybeam was an error on Iron's part. Was supposed to be Psywave, which wouldn't have dealt the SE damage and has no Confusion chance. And Starmie also doesn't know Confuse Ray yet, nor is the Confusion status the ultra powerful accuracy reducer that it is in the Celadon campaign.
Breloom also doesn't have to worry about bugs too much because Fighting resists bug. Thus, he takes neutral damage from bug moves.
