It could technically benefit Michael if allowed, since he has HP recovery every round from his ability and item combination.  Another benefit/detriment could potentially be keeping any temporary stat boosts/debuffs accumulated.  

Though I find it funny that Iron used Ingrain as an example since the whole gimmick with Ingrain is you can't withdraw the pokemon or force them out while the move is active because they're literally rooted in place (though you can still Baton Pass it in the games, switch out using the effects of your own move or item, and switch if you're holding a Shed Shell or are a Ghost type).
