Keep a dangerous pokemon with him without the word of a specialist, keep secrets from his friends, and give a battle to Shiva. If this is not actions of a jerk, I dont know what is.

That 'dangerous' pokemon trusts him and only him fully, and he needed to keep it quiet until there was a 0% chance of any danger.  Besides, it's not like it was, say, a disobedient Tyranitar or something.  Houndour is far from the worst kind of disobedient pokemon.

The only secret Nathan has right now is Mesprit, and that one is purely out of necessity as well.  Nathan HATES keeping unnecessary secrets, and he's terrible at keeping them too.

The battle was just as stressful for him as it was for them, you know.
