He's playing at a severe disadvantage while being a good sport/fair about it, while you have all the advantages in the world. The boy is genuinely enjoying the battle for what it is, not because he's winning, and like he said dice luck has been favorable for him in this Encounter. Nathan is being a good boy (joke intended), basically, so I don't see why he and Dragonstrike are getting Aaaaalll the hate right now. Save that when they bollucks up something fairly significant between themselves and the group/someone else important, alright? Alright, carrying on with Fun Times now!
Plus, considering how badly Nathan's flopped some of his prior battles (and Beldum getting absolutely obliterated despite Nathan's best efforts to avoid that in the tiny, floating magnet's first battle and also first major interaction with Nathan), not getting completely steamrolled is helping to rebuild his confidence, even if he loses.
Besides, Orthros is 12 exp away from learning Flamethrower. I think it's rather obvious why I want THAT move in Orthros's arsenal currently, and the sooner I get it, the sooner I can focus on getting a different move for a different pokemon.
