...I just don't particularly find it fun to have my character's niche being basically ignored or made irrelevant. It's fine that Shiva looks for information on her own, but Nathan's the one (usually talkative) Creshirean in the group, and this is his home region. And finding information on anything from other regions is...incredibly difficult.
And he'd REALLY appreciate someone sharing his interest or asking him about it. Seriously. You can count the number of Creshireans as well versed as him in international lore and history on one or two hands. The usefulness of the information isn't necessarily in its relevance to the plot.
First chapter is over, so Nathan's plot relevence has diminished significantly. If he's 'guiding' the group, it'll be because this is his home, not because of Mesprit.
