Your savefile should not be affected at all but if you want to stay safe, back it and the whole folder up before you edit sprites. Then try to delete the grey/ghostlike shiny sprite (all of them) from the folder and drag theones I've linked up there into it, removing the word 'old' from the file's name, then see in-game whether it worked.

At least, that's out of my memory how I once sucessfully edited a sprite. If highly insecure, go ask on the Discord Server, there is a whole channel simply for custom sprites, so they should know how to edit them in.

I will try this later for sure. I have a backup with me just in case.
