"Poison Heal and such are fine. Even a held Berry is allowed. The rule against Potions was made to make battles against me go a little faster. It's nationally illegal to use many moves on a Trainer, so it would interfere with the spirit of 'anything goes' and create a conflict with the law. Imagine someone running out onto the field and shielding their Pokemon, forcing their opponent to decide between getting in trouble or losing the battle. This is a test of Pokemon against Pokemon, a proxy for the will of their masters."

"Affirmiative, my friend! Of course, given my usual battle strategy our fight might still drag on a bit, if either of us don't end up overwhelming each other that is! (...) Ah, so the rule in place to provide liability protection against the more zealously defensive  or deviously minded trainer. Hmm, yes, that WOULD be quite a predicament to find one's self in, and it rather defeats the purpose of Pokémon battling in the first place if one should take such meddlesome actions...... After saying his this, he gave them the highly esteemed Gym Leader a eager yet serene smile, and motioned towards the way to the stadium.
