Good point!  If radiation mutates a Pokemon's DNA enough to change their typing, then it only makes sense (from a scientific standpoint) that said mutation would be hereditary.

Then again, one could also argue that radiation exposure also runs the risk of sterilization, so... either way, I don't think the breeding portion is ever going to make complete logical sense anyway.

Going back to Epsilon a moment... didn't Cameron say that the radiation had mostly dissipated from the island over the past ten years?  (Let's ignore the fact that this is highly unrealistic in the first place)  If the radiation had, in fact, gone away, shouldn't the Pokemon have eventually lost their Nuclear typing and/or had a portion of them die off to where there wouldn't be nearly as many Nuclear-types as there are now?  The fact that the island is COMPLETELY overrun with Nuclear Pokemon ten years later seems to suggest that they've been breeding... unless each and every one of the Pokemon you encounter had been there since the time of the first accident.

While the land might be slowly becoming clean, the Pokémon affected by the radiation are not. Once enough radiation gets to them, they are permanently part Nuclear type, even if a Hazma cleans them up, producing and leaking radiation as they go along. This is why Kellyn and the Ranger had to repel them after the 2nd Nuclear disaster, since if they got past them, they would just spread the radiation across the land. And while I give it that they may be breeding in the wild, no one in there right mind would breed feral or partially irradiated Pokémon (ignoring Nucleon and the other stable Nucs).

Which also raises a question... if the Nuclear-types irradiate the ground as they go (and I definitely had a "wait WTF???" moment when Kellyn said this during the Route 11 quest), then it makes absolutely NO sense that Cameron would have deemed the island at Epsilon to be radiation-free.  I actually theorized in-fic as I was writing it that maybe only the newly-irradiated Pokemon had the ability to do that, but I'm not sure how logistically sound that reasoning is...

I think there's enough people on this forum insane enough to breed them given the ability to do so... I might actually be one of them!
