(Okay, I think the Shadow Pokemon conversation has progressed enough that I have an idea of what Nathan's morning might be like. So...jumping forward a bit to the morning of Day 50...)
The next morning, Nathan's...in an okay mood. Not great, not dismal...just okay. Forthright was being as cuddly as always, and it was really comforting.

...he'd been thinking a lot about various topics last night, so it takes him a moment to fully wake.

Kirlia had been doing some thinking the previous night too.
In fact, he'd actually stayed up later than Nathan doing so. He'd gone into Nathan's journal and rather furiously crossed out that one set of lines that Nathan had written underneath all that text on N. No way it would be readable now...everything is put neatly back where Kirlia had found it afterwards, though.
He'd also been thinking a little on how to help Nathan...and he came to a decision...

When Nathan finally wakes up, he finds Kirlia...staring at the Neverstone. Intently.
Nathan blinks, rubs his eyes...is he seeing things?
...
...nope, still there...
He's hesitant to ask, but..."...Kirlia? Why are you...?"
Kirlia turns his head to look at Nathan...closes his eyes...recalls and shares the memory of the vision of Nathan walking with him as a Ralts...
...he doesn't care what form he's in, as long as he's with Nathan. As long as Nathan still cares. And if Mesprit wants a Ralts to break the barrier, then so be it. One less thing for Nathan to worry about, if Mesprit is awake and able to do what it pleases instead of being trapped in a prison of its own making.
...and maybe Kirlia needs some time to reflect, too. Yesterday, he'd not done what Nathan asked him to do...maybe spending some time as a Ralts again would be good for him.
Nathan stares at the scene for another moment...
"...are you sure you want to try that? It'd be...a lot of hard work to get back to where we are now, you know..."
Kirlia turns to look at Nathan...and smiles. He doesn't care, and it won't take them long to regain that strength. He's almost certain of that. Besides, one of the things that Nathan had been thinking about...what strength is...Kirlia thinks he has an idea of what it means for Nathan...
"...we'll try it later then...let me just...get ready for the day..."

They don't Teleport back to Vapor Falls immediately. Nathan needs to make some preparations first, get himself ready for what might come...
First off, he swaps some pokemon around in his party. Out go Charmeleon, Porygon-Z, and Pulse, and in come Calam, Ditto, and Grid.
Second, Nathan and Kirlia spend some time playing with Forthright. Nathan might be boxing her later today, so spending some time with her sounds like a good idea. Starmie adds some entertainment value with some dazzling lights! ...maybe a little too dazzling, though, as Starmie seems to be using Confuse Ray on Kirlia! Oh dear! It gets a good chuckle out of Forthright, though. Calam's quietly observing, gnawing on some Dry Food while he does so. It's relaxing, seeing the young cloud enjoying herself...but he can feel the weight of what Nathan and Kirlia are about to attempt, so he's psyching himself up, too.
Encounter 1 is a Training Session for Forthright, Calam, and Starmie! Starmie then learns Confuse Ray for 22 exp!

After that's done, Nathan swaps his party around slightly again. Forthright and Starmie get deposited in the PC in exchange for Swiftfire and Solomon. And once that's done, Nathan and Kirlia head outside...and Teleport to Vapor Falls.
Everyone seems to have gone about their own business today, so it seems like the group wasn't going to be heading to Cress City today...maybe tomorrow...
...today is the last easy chance for Nathan to reach Mesprit with his own pokemon, though, in that case...best make it count...
