Magnemite is a bit like Starmie in that it tends not to react to things too much. Unlike Starmie, it has an eye and can have expressions. When a Magnemite hatches, it does know to seek out a parent, because multiple Magnemite are stronger than one alone. But they feel real emotion over that bonding, even when it's based on a desire for cold mechanical bonding.
You can evolve a Magnemite straight through to Magnezone if you are in a strong enough magnetic field. Mt. Sentry's main tunnel, where Heart trained, is suitable for evolving to Magneton but not Magnezone. Deeper within it are supposed to be stronger fields for Magnezone. Mt. Molten on the inside is suitable for Magnezone, and all of Trillium Town can create a Magneton. Like Slowking, the location of evolution will make a bit of a difference in your Magnezone's personality and traits.
Most people evolve their Magneton in a different place than where they evolved Magnemite. It's said to create a stronger Pokemon, just as two different magnetic poles create an extra strong attraction. The Pokedex says this is unproven, while the Almanac agrees with the theory.
Cubbug
Cubbug, the Swarm Pokemon. Swarms of this caterpillar Pokemon are common in Tandor, able to destroy crops or natural fields if their numbers become great enough. It breeds very fast. When it evolves to its final form, Nimflora, it gains a useful Fairy typing and an ability to pollinate and nourish plants, allowing the next generation of Cubbug to flourish in an abundant food source. Cubbug shares outward characteristics with a young bear, but has none of the usefulness of a Teddiursa. Its only use in this form is the calming effect it exudes.
