[Meta thread] Iron's PokeRole Adventure: The Skull Ruins
(02-28-2018, 05:11 PM)Dragonstrike Wrote: Not a mandatory encounter.  Just sayin'.

Only type immune to Frozen is Ice.  Well, unless there's Strong Sunlight.  Then Freeze can't proc, period.  It's worth remembering that.  Fire is just a little harder to Freeze mid-combat because they can thaw themselves immediately at GM discretion (or with the right moves, such as Flame Wheel, they can thaw AND still attack.  Scald can do that too, funnily enough, so it's also kinda hard to freeze water pokemon that know that move.)

...it DOES make sense to inflict as many statuses as possible for capturing it since it is probably going to be a difficult pokemon to capture...but it is also equivalent to kicking an opponent after they've already been downed.  Which isn't going to endear Ventus to almost anybody in Creshire...

...but that's also assuming Kingdra lets up once Chandelure is KOed.  That could throw another wrench into this plan of Ventus's.

I know, but Ventus doesn't, and Ven being brutal about defending his friend/family is straight in line with his character, so why not let him be a bastard in this case? Especially since nobody else will be around to watch him do it anyway, and in the best case scenario Chandelure lives and gets traded away for nice items and a trainer that WILL take care of it, so....

Yeap, just like I thought, but if Grass types are immune to Sleep in this campaign, it might make sense for Fire types to be Immune to being Frozen on top of being Burned. Ven would also know that he couldn't Freeze an opponent in Strong Sunlight, but thanks for the reminder!

Indeed, which is why its getting Fainted, Paralyze, Frozen, and Poisoned to hedge my bets! Ventus also really doesn't care what others think of him of his self defense and feeding policies for his Pokémon/Friends/Loved Ones, besides trying to keep a clean enough image not to be dogpiled for it. Since they are in the middle of a Mt. with no cameras or other people around to bear witness to such brutality, and it being sent to the PC for healing won't raise any alarms since its possible for the ghost to contract those Statuses mid battle, its not likely Ven will run afoul of anyone doing this except Nathan (Which Ven can distinctly choose not to care about!) unless Iron decided to make a point about it.

If Ao Guang kills Chandlelure, however, Ven actually wouldn't care one bit, and actually even praise him for promptly dispatching a dangerous threat towards everyone's safety. Remember, this battle ain't just about capturing Chandlelure, but also starting things off nice and relatively safely with the Sea Lord. If that means letting the ghost die horribly to appease/bond with Ao Guang, then me and Ven will happily let it happen! No matter what happens to Chandlelure (Capture, Death by Ventus being Ventus, or Death by Ao Guang), it will be a net positive outcome, again assuming Iron doesn't make a point about it. Yay!
Like the wind, I come and go as I please... but I am always there to provide a comforting breeze.
