Actually, another thought occurred to me.
Furret probably doesn't have 4 Dex on her own (which would be the max for most wild Furret). Which means Nathan ends up slowing down a bit for her so she can keep up. Which means Ventus can catch up.
Minor detail, but hey, it gives Nathan enough time to finish his quick breakfast before reaching the pagoda!
...and also probably clues Ventus in that Furret isn't technically Nathan's pokemon yet.
Or if she does have 4 Dex for some reason, she keeps up just fine and Ventus gets left behind, though 2-3 Dex is probably more likely, right?
