Wouldn't Protect have nullified the SE danage from that first Bubble Beam? The move description says it reduces set damage to zero, which I assume applies to the type advamtage damage just as much as moves like Dragon Rage (meaning the move would work much like it does in the games as a result, which I believe was the intention).
With the house ruling for affecting chance dice, it would have also nullified Bubble Beam's effect iirc (not that it mattered this round, but it's something to keep in mind)
