Not so much surprised as intrigued.  Eviolite crystals are pretty rare.

"Wait, that's...Ventus, where'd you get one of those?"

Nathan's spark of interest in her Evolite was not the shock or awe she was hoping for, but seeing his behavior change from its former sullenness pleased her greatly, as she let out a delighted trill and preformed some more fanciful tricks with the stone, before dematerializing it and floating back to her master's side with a sastified/self please cat like smile. Yes, she FINALLY elicited a reaction from the boy, and it was a favorable one no less! Its a far cry from true surprise her prankster spirit craved to get out of them, but she happily take this small victory to tide her over, as she bid her time for the next opportunity to catch them unawares, te he~!

The researcher was also intrigued by his 'horrifying' little sister's performance, as he didn't take her for a show off or similar, but he supposed somewhat inherently dramatic nature of being a spooky Ghost coming to the forefront. That, or she really wanted to provoke a response from the both of them. Ventus soon pushed those thoughts to the side for the moment to answer the young scholar's inquiry, a small if slightly charinged smile on his face as his did so. "Well, I received this Evolite as part of an arrangement with my mercenary, in exchange for a Potion and training his whole team all day while he borrowed Haziel for the day to conduct his own business around the region. Its the reason I arrived later to museum than you, as the first morning's session went.....roughly, to put it simply. Oh well, hopefully I'll have found a good raport with them by this mid-day.......and Reshirim help me if I don't! Oh, and I believe he said he had two more Evolite besides the one he gave me, so if you are interested in obtaining one feel free to make a deal with him at some point!"

Entire Cell Phone Conversation

Iron

"Wait, really? You don't know? Not even an educated guess?" She sounds amused.

Dragonstrike

"...nothing that comes to mind..."

Iron

"It's a birthday card, silly! May 12. I actually have an extra special one here from your Uncle Oscar. He sent it all the way from Cress City. Should I put it in your PC? Along with a little something you can share with your friends."

Dragonstrike

...birthday card?

...May 12th?

...sending it and some other stuff to his PC?

...but then that means...

Nathan doesn't respond initially, trying to process what's just been said.  He does respond after a solid minute of stunned silence, though.

"...yeah, that'd be...great...go ahead and send it all to my PC...I'll...go pick it all up right away...is there...anything else you needed?"

Iron

"Haha, you forgot your birthday, didn't you! You must have been busy? Well...enjoy it as much as you can, OK? I love you. I don't really need anything, just wanted to wish you a happy birthday."

Dragonstrike

"...yeah...don't think I really need to remind you how crazy it's been...love ya too."

*click*

Nathan just stares at his 'dex for another minute or so, still kinda...stunned.

This entire time, Ralts has been trying to ignore the ghostie for the most part.  At her attempts to get closer, Ralts just STARES at her, making quiet noises telling her to back.  Off.  He doesn't want her to be THAT close to Nathan at all.

Maybe surprisingly, maybe not, this is sort of overriding the stunned surprise Ralts should be imitating because of Nathan.  He does look questioningly at Nathan though, wondering what the big deal is.  He can't seem to get Nathan's attention, though...

Ventus couldn't hear the entire conversation from where he was standing off to the side, but judging by the Nathan's dumbfounded silence and experssion, whatever his mother revealed threw him for a loop and then some! Despite himself, the scientist couldn't help but worry a tad bit when they continued to zone out and stared blanking into their Pokedex, and so he decided to glide over to their side and gently shake their shoulder to rouse them from their stupor.

"Nathan? Nate? Are you quite alright? Please, respond and tell me you're well, Nathan. (worriedly grumbles under his breath) What in Reshirm's names did Marta say that left him so gobsmacked.....?"

Malphena, however, knew exactly why the boy had lasped into a state of pure shock, both his reaction and the reason behind it brining an excited smile to her face as she bounced up and down in air: his birthday was today! Oh isn't this the nicest of all the surprises she's had the pleasure to experience all week, te he! She can't WAIT for him to rush over and discover what present his uncle sent him, and she how he reacts to IT!

The abnormal Ralt's continued displeasure at her being so near their master dampened her eagerness to a noticeable degree, causing the banshee to turn stop her sashaying and turn towards them and frown slightly at them. Normally such behavior would be nothing but bemusing to her, but now he was frankly being such a killjoy. Besides that, she hadn't even tried to do anything even REMOTELY meanspirited to him and their master besides trying a couple of good scares and some bragger/teasing, so she really doesn't see what his animosity towards her is!

Eventually she just rolled her eyes and let out a small *Sigh*, before she floated away from Nathan and towards them, stopping right in front of them and calmly, patiently explained their master's reaction in exact detail, before she pulled away and regarded him with a half lidded look of expectation. There, maybe he wouldn't try giving her a headache or put her to sleep now, and lighten up a bit too! Oh, the burden of being more sensible (at least in this case)....
