Taking a break then definitely sounds like an idea and a good way to explain a time-skip forward, accepted.
So? Experienced as a roleplayer I'd surely agree to, but gamemastering still feels to me like a much different experience and isn't something that should be done half-hearted. Or, to phrase it differently, I'm having a lot of respect towards good GMs/DM who do their job decently. Doing it poorly, even if unintentionally, does certainly show rather quickly.
