Ooh, here's a good question, @Iron.  Does the Library have any additional information on Garlicburg?  I feel like that's something Nathan might look for.

You learn several things about Garlicburg.

In the time of Feng Huang, Garlicburg was hollow - a dormant volcano. Basically just a steep ring of stone. Sometime between then and now, it was plugged and became the more typically-shaped island we have now.

Lots of pseudo-dragon Pokemon (Charizard, Gyarados, Tyranitar, etc) have been sighted there. Sarimanok sent lots of adventurers to their doom there in attempts to bring back valuable Pokemon.

Due to the fierce challenges available on the island, it has always been a coveted spot for Mystics, Blackbelts, and others who seek to prove themselves in isolation. Sometimes you find artifacts from such people - you're learning some of this info from artifact journals recovered by the Slowking.
