While not the most...perceptive of people, even Terra can tell that Nathan was surprised by his generosity, to which he shrugged and simply said "Dog is dog, no matter what they look like. Treat them well, and they treat you well. Have a dog myself that likes sweets, so I though they would like some too."

As if to reinforce this point, he pulled out a couple more marshmellow to Orthros, this time holding them in his hands. If they accept and they (both the dog and Nathan), he pets their muzzle, as petting their brain didn't seem like a good or polite thing to do.

Once Nathan permitted it, he gave the young Castform a couple of the white treats and no more, mindful of the fact that giving a bunch of sugar to a kid was a poor idea unless you wanted them to bounce all over the place.

His handshake for the both was firm, yet not crushing, for this rugged man was mindful of how....strong he was in comparison to most other people. Didn't want to make a bad impression by grind the boy's/Pokémon's bones, so care was taken.

The boy's explaination of their Pokémon caused a expression of mild surprise to appear on the herculian man's face, as he looked at both of them in plain face wonder.

"Never knew Kirlia had a different evolution, and didn't recognize dog as a Houndour. Don't know many Pokémon not from my home, so sorry for my.....ignorance?"

The man seemed to stumble at the last word, slowly enunciating it as if unsure if that was the right word, before nodding his head and saying "Yes, ignorance. Cheshire Houndour different, but they are still good doggies if trained right. Garvedours hard to train to reach full.....potential, so likely same with Gallade. Castforms are rare, so you are well traveled. Hmm....good job with them all."

He punctuated that statement with a nod of his head and closed eyes, before opening them, crossing his arms and bluntly saying this next to them.

"We need to have a battle."

No elaboration for now, just a simple, direct statement. You feel he'll give one if you ask, though.

"That's very considerate and open minded of you.  Most people around here are a little superstitious.  Not that I can blame them.  It's rather refreshing to meet someone that can look past appearances, to be honest."

Yeah, Orthros and Nathan are both fine with Terra petting the doggy.  Good call on being mindful about touching that brain!  Orthros definitely likes this man now!  Treats and he's getting pets and rubs and scratches in all the right places?  Ooooh yeeeeeaaah...

Forthright loves the marshmallows!  She wants more!  "I think that's enough for now, Forthright.  Maybe he'll give you some more later."  The little cloud looks rather disappointed about that.  Why did the dog get more than she did?!

Gallade and Nathan shrug simultaneously.  "Evolving Kirlia into Gallade has some very specific requirements.  You need an item called a Dawn Stone, and only male Kirlia can become Gallade.  And yeah, you could say we're well traveled in a way.  Been to a few places we never truly expected to be visiting in the last almost two months.  Found Orthros while visiting one such place.  Let me guess...you're from Hoenn?  Not many places happen to have both Castform and Ralts living there."

Nathan nods at the statement about Gardevoir and Gallade.  "Just as difficult, and just as rewarding.  Harder, even, since Gallade fight much differently than their counterpart."  To emphasize the point, Gallade extends one of his elbows, showing off the long, sharp blade.

Nathan raises another eyebrow at the sudden battle challenge.  "...why?"
