Question: Is the Shiny determined the moment you pick it up from the Green Demon (As I call him), or is it determined the moment you receive the Mystery Gift? I actually want to get my hands on a shiny one of these, given how.....august this particular MG Pokémon is. I mean, wow, talk about a literally game changer....

You can save in front of the delivery man and soft reset for shiny and/or nature.  I believe it's a fixed chance that's unaffected by Shiny Charm like the prior ones as well.

And yes, this one is a huge game changer for collectors, breeders, and battlers alike.  It's nice that the pokemon got access to a new tool that was previously unavailable to it.  And now we can exploit it to our hearts' content!
